It’s back to the lessons... Now that school is back in session, sched-
ules are a little more organized andthoughts turn toward Fall activities. Thenights are crisper, farmers may be seen in thefields harvesting their crops and flower gar-dens are giving way to the mums and pump-kin displays.
New performing arts schedules are beingannounced and football teams are gearing up
for homecoming. With all thehustle and bustle, there isstill time for a great weekendgetaway for the whole familyto enjoy before the snow flies.
This issue offers places to go for festivalcelebrations full of live entertainment andevents for all ages. The kids can even get afun history lesson or two in without even
realizing it. For instance learn about or Indian heritage andculture at a good old authentic PowWow. Experience NativeAmerican Traditions. See 12 for the details and schedule.

Continuous free enter-tainment is provided onfive stages with other per-formances rovingthroughout the festivalgrounds. From the dancefloor at the Festival Stage,to the Old Time MedicineShow at the TravelingWagon Stage, there issomething for everyonewho attends the festival to enjoy.
Voted as the #1 Festival in the area, it celebrates the-life and times of John Chapman. aka JohnnyAppleseed, by providing a historically authenticrecreation of the time period of his life. His gravesitememorial area in Fort Wayne's Archer Park has beendesignated a National Historic Place and is identifiedas such on the National Register of Historic Places.
The festival also features food, demonstrations,crafts, antiques, a children's area, a military reenact-ment, a farmer's market and more! Just down the hillfrom Johnny's grave, the Festival Stage showcasesperformances from musicians and clogger's, to apublic address from Abraham Lincoln himself.
The Folk Stage & Pioneer stages are the place to"come and sit 'fer a spell." In the shade of the treesyou'll hear music from the days of JohnnyAppleseed. Plenty of good eatin's nearby too.
The newly expanded River Stage has performancesgeared towards the younger audience. You can meetone of our roving performers, meet JohnnyAppleseed, learn about unusual musical instru-ments, listen to the storyteller, and even see magicwith your own eyes!
Attend the 10 a.m. SundayCommemorative Service ofWorship celebrating the lifeand faith of John Chapman,by the members of theSwedenborg Church. Learnabout this icon's religiousbeliefs.
The Old Time MedicineShow is a one-man, comedyshow complete with anantique box wagon whichwas originally horse-drawndown mud roads. Meet DocBarth and Max. They mayeven ask a member of theaudience to help with theshow! Visit the exhibit, stayfor the show ---nothing is
sold.You don't even need to be at one of our four stages
to find entertainment. Period entertainers can befound roving the grounds of both parks. Be sure tosay "hello" when you see Johnny Appleseed!
Listen for the crack of the cannon near the river andfind an interactive, living history re-enactmentincluding infantry, navy, artillery, period toys, andmedical demonstrations.
When you hear a fife and drum corps on the move,step to the side to listen as they go by. Then, you canfall in step behind their parade! Each day at 2:00, TheGathering of the Bands will be at the Festival Stage,showcases the pipe, fife, and drum corps. Each of thecorps will perform solo, and then they join togetherfor a most memorable performance of AmazingGrace. The move to the Festival Stage is new for 2008to allow for more people to view this wonderful per-formance.
