The Holy Garments

The kippah and tallit regalia of the Jews has always puzzled me, as to its origin. The Father took me to the Hebrew words and I was flabbergasted at what was revealed. The Father had indeed designed the kippah, a hemispherical cap, as part of the attire for the priesthood.

Exodus 28:2 & 40: And thou shalt make HOLY GARMENTS for Aaron thy brother for GLORY and for HONOR/MAJESTY/beauty… And for Aaron’s sons thou shalt make coats, and thou shalt make for them girdles, and BONNETS shalt thou make for them, for GLORY and for majesty/beauty.

The Hebrew word for Bonnets is migbaah, which means A CAP AS HEMISPHERICAL. More details will be given later in this article regarding this hemispherical cap. Ezekiel also speaks of the priestly headdress. Ezekiel proclaimed Jahwah’s words to the people in the morning and in the evening Ezekiel’s wife died. He made no mourning for his dead wife but put on his head covering. When the people saw Ezekiel’s actions, they asked of him his reasons:

Ezekiel 24:15-23: And the Word of Jahwah came to me, saying, Son of man, behold, I take away from you the desire of your eyes with a stroke. Yet neither shall you mourn nor weep, nor shall your tears run down. Groan, but be silent; make no mourning for the dead; tie your ornament/fancy headdress/bonnet on you, and put your sandals on your feet, and do not cover your lips, and do not eat the bread of men. So I spoke to the people in the morning. And in the evening my wife died, and I did in the morning as I was commanded. And the people said to me: Will you not tell us what these things mean to us, that you do so? And I answered them, The Word of Jahwah came to me, saying: Speak to the house of Israel. So says Sovereign Jahwah: behold, I will defile My sanctuary, the glory of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pities. And your sons and your daughters whom you have left shall fall by the sword. And you shall do as I have done. You shall not cover your beard nor eat the bread of men.

Your BONNETS/FANCY HEADDRESSES MUST STAY ON YOUR HEADS…

When Jahwah proclaims a Year of Pardon for His people, He will appoint a fancy HEADDRESS OF GLORY, instead of the ashes of mourning.

Isaiah 61:1-3: The Spirit of Sovereign Jahwah is upon me; because Jahwah hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES, (in the House of Pisces and the decan of Andromeda) and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; TO PROCLAIM THE YEAR OF JAHWAH’S PARDON, and the Day of Vengeance of our Elohim - to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them a FANCY HEADDRESS/BONNET/ORNAMENT/beauty (6287-peer – to clothe with beauty) instead of ashes of mourning, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the garment/vestment/wrap/mantle/TALLIT OF GLORY instead of the spirit/anger of DARKNESS, that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of Jahwah, so HE MAY BE GLORIFIED.

The Garments of Glory denote that Jahwah has planted His elect in Zion as Trees of Righteousness. These Garments of Glory glorify Jahwah, our Heavenly Father. Because of the lying pen of the translators, one cannot understand this verse merely by reading it. This Scripture describes the priestly headdress, the anointing oil, and the tallit that is to be used in the Kingdom of Zion, as the GARMENTS OF GLORY. The word translated as beauty is from the Hebrew word peer and means a FANCY HEADRESS. The BEAUTY that will be PLACED UPON THE HEADS OF THOSE WHO MOURN will be the FANCY HEADDRESS of the priesthood. Of what have they been mourning?

Ezekiel 9:4: And Jahwah said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a TAW upon the foreheads of the people that MOURN and GROAN for ALL THE ABOMINATIONS THAT BE DONE IN THE MIDST THEREOF.

Clark’s Commentary1 states:

Beauty for ashes: A BEAUTIFUL CROWN INSTEAD OF ASHES. In times of mourning, the Jews put on sackcloth, or coarse and sordid raiment, and spread dust and ashes on their heads; on the contrary, splendid clothing and ointment poured on the head were the signs of joy. “Feign thyself to be a mourner,” says Joab to the woman of Tekoah, “and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not thyself with oil.” 2 Sam. Xiv.2. These customs are at large expressed in the Book of Judith: “She pulled off the sackcloth which she had on, and put off the garments of her widowhood, and washed her body all over with water and anointed herself with precious ointment, and braided the hair of her

head, and put on a TIRE (mitre) upon it; and put on HER GARMENTS OF GLADNESS.” Chap. X.3.

The OIL OF JOY is the anointing olive oil, which consecrates and separates the Holy Things from the profane. It depicts the flow of understanding that corresponds to our POTENTIAL OF LIFE within the Body of Jahshuwah. It is used as the oil of anointing to signify that an individual, or a condition or stage of development of that individual, is in accordance with that person’s spiritual positioning/SHEM/name in Life for service, restoration, healing and fulfillment. It is the sign of rebirth/renewal into perfection. 2 The NAME and its covering will be discussed later in the article. Several other verses bring forth this anointing:

Psalms 23:5: Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: THOU HAST ANOINTED MY HEAD WITH OIL; My cup runneth over. Psalms 45:7: Thou hast loved JUSTICE, and hated wickedness: Therefore Elohim, thy Elohim, has anointed thee with the OIL OF JOY above thy companions. Ecclesiastes 9:8: Let your clothing be white at all times, and let not your HEAD BE WITHOUT OIL. John 16:20: Truly I say to you, You will be weeping and sorrowing, but the world will be glad; you will be sad, but YOUR SORROW WILL BE TURNED INTO JOY.

The word vestment in Isaiah 61:3 is translated from #4594 maateh; from 5844: ATAH – a prim. root; to wrap oneself, to cover, veil, put on a COVERING. This Holy Vestment will be wrapped around the person wearing it, just as the TALLIT is wrapped. Isaiah continues with the prophecy of the world to come:

Isaiah 61:4-7: And they (those wearing the priestly garments) shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations. And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and foreigners shall be your plowmen and your vine-dressers. But you will be named the PRIESTS OF JAHWAH; men will call you the MINISTERS OF OUR ELOHIM; you will eat the wealth of the nations, and you will be CLOTHED WITH THEIR GLORY/to their GLORY will you succeed.

Instead of your shame you will have double, and instead of dishonor you will rejoice in their inheritance; therefore in your land YOU WILL POSSESS DOUBLE,3 and everlasting/olam joy will be unto you.

The Holy Garments are for GLORY and HONOR, i.e. they are priestly garments to be worn in the Land of Dabar.

Verse 10: I will greatly rejoice in Jahwah, my soul will be joyful in my Father for He has COVERED ME WITH THE GARMENTS OF SALVATION/deliverance/ SAFETY; He has covered me with the ROBE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS/JUSTICE as a bridegroom decketh (to act as a priest, minister in a priest’s office) himself as a PRIEST/with the priestly headdress/ornaments, and as a PERFECTED BRIDE adorns her jewels.

DEFINITIONS:

GARMENTS – beged – from 898: A COVERING, raiment, vesture. SALVATION – yesha – liberty, deliverance, SAFETY, salvation. RIGHTEOUSNESS – tsedaqah – justice, righteousness in government; from tsadaq - cleanse, clear self, justify self. DECKETH – 3547 – kahan to mediate in religious services; TO OFFICIATE AS A PRIEST; to put on regalia; do the office of a priest. ORNAMENTS – peer- an embellishment, i.e. FANCY HEAD-DRESS; bonnet, tire; from paar – to GLORIFY, to be glorified.

Clarke’s Commentary, Vol. 4, page 227 comments:

As a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments - - “As the bridegroom decketh himself with a PRIESTLY CROWN.” An allusion to the magnificent dress of the high priest, when performing his functions: and particularly to the mitre, and crown or plate of gold on the front of it, Exodus 29:6. The bonnet or mitre of the priests also was made as Moses expresses it, “for GLORY and for beauty” - Exodus 28:40. It is difficult to give its full force to the prophet’s metaphor in another language. The version of Aquila and Symmachus comes nearest to it: “as a bridegroom decked with a PRIESTLY CROWN.”

Thus verse 10 is stating:

I will greatly rejoice in Jahwah. My soul will be joyful in my Elohim because He has clothed me with Garments of Safety IN ORDER TO SAFELY ENTER HIS PRESENCE. (The garments of safety include a robe of justification.) He has covered me with the Robe of Justification, which is like a bridegroom officiating as a priest wearing a fancy head-dress.

The Robe of Righteousness (the Tallit) is the four-cornered garment on which a tzitzit is fixed at each corner. The tzitzot reminds us of all Jahwah’s holy laws, so WE WILL NOT SEEK AFTER THE LUSTS OF OUR HEARTS AND EYES. Our flesh is something that each and every one of us has to fight against daily, as it continually wars against the Spirit!

Numbers 15:37-16:3: And Jahwah spoke to Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them TASSELS ON THE CORNERS OF THEIR GARMENTS, throughout their generations, and that they attach to the tassel of the corners a cord of blue, and it will be unto you for a TASSEL, that ye may look upon it, and REMEMBER ALL THE COMMANDMENTS OF Jahwah, and do them; and that ye SEEK NOT AFTER THE LUSTS OF YOUR OWN HEART AND YOUR OWN EYES, after which ye go a whoring;

that ye may remember and do all My commandments, and BE HOLY UNTO YOUR Elohim. I am Jahwah your Elohim, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your Elohim; I am Jahwah your Elohim. Korah (to make UNCOVERED/BALD) son of Izhar (oil that is producing [its own] light), the son of Kohath (assembly), the son of Levi (joined), and certain Reubenites (Reuben lost his right as firstborn by committing a sexual sin) – Dathan (their law – their decree) and Abiram (My father is exalted), sons of Eliab (My Father is El – El is My Father), and On (wealth & power, physical strength of men and behemoth) son of Peleth (separation, to flee)– became insolent and rose up against Moses. With them were 250 Israelite men, well-known community leaders who had been appointed members of the council.

Take a moment and ponder the definitions of this rebellious group. An UNCOVERED ASSEMBLY lost its FIRST BORN STATUS by SEPARATING and FLEEING from their Heavenly Father EL and JOINING themselves to their own physical STRENGTH & POWER. They made up their OWN LAWS, thus producing THEIR OWN LIGHT.

They came as a group to OPPOSE Moses and Aaron (by opposing Moses and Aaron, Jahwah’s appointed, they have also exalted themselves against Jahwah) and said to them: You have gone too far! The whole community is HOLY, every one of them, and

Jahwah is with them. Why then do you set yourselves above Jahwah’s Assembly?

The exact same thing happens time and time and time again in the Body of Jahshuwah. When Jahwah hands out gifts to the Body of Jahshuwah, there are those that lift up immediately and cry out “Why do you set yourselves above Jahwah’s Assembly.” The whole Body is HOLY.” A spirit of JEALOUSY comes over these people just as it did with Korah and his mob. When this occurs, death does indeed enter, as they have become uncovered. The elders of the Body of Jahshuwah are also a type of COVERING.


A Covering of Jealousy

Where are all my gifts? How does she rate?

Let’s take some time right here and now to hear what Jahwah has to say regarding The SPIRIT OF JEALOUSY! My heart has been heavily burdened in these last few months regarding this spirit, which continually comes and SEPARATES the Body of Jahshuwah. It is something that must be dealt with immediately in individual homes before they are overcome and destroyed by Satan’s evil spirits. When the Spirit of Jealousy settles over and COVERS a home, it is an invitation for ALL EVIL SPIRITS to enter. I have seen this happen many times over my life, and every time it breaks my heart to see individuals and homes destroyed because of this spirit.

James 3:13-17: Which of you is wise or learned? Let him prove it by his VIRTUOUS BEHAVIOUR IN HUMILITY that comes from wisdom. (Humility and wisdom come together). But if you have BITTER JEALOUSY and SELFISH AMBITION IN YOUR HEART, stop boasting and lying against the truth/talking falsely against the TRUTH. (or, But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not be boastful or hide the truth with lies.) Wisdom of this kind does not come down from above but is worldly, SELF-CENTERED/unspiritual/beastly, and IS PROCEEDING FROM AN EVIL SPIRIT. For where there is JEALOUSY and SELFISH AMBITION, there will also be disorder and wickedness of EVERY KIND/and every evil practice. But the wisdom from above is PURE FROM CARNAL PLEASURE/uncorrupted/ innocent, PEACE-LOVING, PATIENT, OBEDIENT, FULL OF MERCY, produces a harvest of GOOD FRUITS and is WITHOUT A TRACE OF PARTIALITY or HYPOCRISY.


Unless this spirit is severed from the home, Jahwah’s judgment is forth coming and it will be cut off from the Body of Jahshuwah. Dear Brother & Sister DO NOT TAKE THIS WARNING LIGHTLY. Jealousy and envy will not enter the Kingdom. Jahwah will suddenly send down a CURSE on that home.

Job 5:2-5: ENVY and JEALOUSY will kill a stupid fool. I have seen fools take root/look secure, but suddenly Jahwah SENDS DOWN A CURSE ON THEIR HOMES. His children are far from salvation/safety, and they are crushed/destroyed in the gate, (when the home enters the Gate of Judgment – the gate is where the judges hold court) neither is there any to deliver them (no one can deliver them from Jahwah’s judgment). Whose harvest the hungry will eat, and armed man will take him by violence, and the thirsty shall drink up his riches.

Jealousy will DECAY THE WHOLE BODY; in fact, no one can survive, when this Spirit of Jealousy descends on a home.

Proverbs 14:30: A sound heart is the life to the body; But JEALOUSY is the rottenness of the bones/is a disease of the bones/can eat you up/DECAYS THE BODY. Proverbs 27:4: Anger is cruel, and fury is overwhelming; but WHO CAN SURVIVE

JEALOUSY?

This Spirit of Jealousy brings in every kind of wickedness. It becomes arrogant and defiant of Jahwah’s Truth, thus breaking His covenant. The mind of those it controls becomes dark and depraved.

Romans 1:18-32: For the wrath of Jahwah is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of those who by their wickedness SUPPRESS THE TRUTH. For what can be known about Jahwah is plain to them, because JAHWAH HAS SHOWN IT TO THEM…(Jahwah has revealed it to them, therefore they are responsible.) …So they are without excuse. For though they knew Jahwah, they did not honor Him as Elohim or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking and their senseless minds were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became FOOLS… Therefore Jahwah gave them up to their own vile LUSTS… Because they exchanged the TRUTH about Jahwah for a LIE and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator…(Worshipping the creature includes the worship of SELF.) Since they did not think it worthwhile to RETAIN THE KNOWLEDGE OF JAHWAH, He gave them over to a DEPRAVED MIND, to do what OUGHT NOT TO BE DONE.


They have become FILLED WITH EVERY KIND OF WICKEDNESS, evil, greed and depravity. They are FULL OF ENVY, murder, strife, DECEIT and MALICE. They are GOSSIPS, SLANDERERS, HATERS OF JAHWAH, insolent, ARROGANT and BOASTFUL; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; Without understanding, COVENANT BREAKERS, HARDHEARTED AGAINST FAMILY (without natural affection), unreliable, don’t have any love or mercy for others. Although they know Jahwah’s Torah Judgment, that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also APPROVE OF THOSE WHO PRACTICE THEM. Romans 13:11-13: You know the times in which we are living. It's high time for you to wake up. Our salvation/deliverance is nearer now than when we first became believers. The Night is almost over (Satan’s rule upon this earth is almost over), and Day will soon appear (Jahshuwah, the light of the world will soon appear). We must stop behaving as people do in the dark and be ready to live in the light. Let us walk honestly/honorably, as in the day, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in promiscuity and licentiousness (reckless, excessive indulgence of LIBERTY, contempt of the restraints of Jahwah’s Torah), not in QUARRELING and JEALOUSY.

The meat of the Word cannot and will not be given to those still wallowing in JEALOUSY, as they are still mere INFANTS.

1 Corinthians 3:1-3: Brethren, in the past I could not address you as people who have the Spirit but rather as people of the FLESH, mere INFANTS in Christ. I gave you milk, NOT SOLID FOOD, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, YOU ARE STILL NOT READY for you are STILL of the FLESH. For as long as there is JEALOUSY and QUARRELING AMONG YOU, are you not of the FLESH and behaving like mere men? 1 Peter 2:1: Get rid of your feelings of HATRED and malice/haughtiness. Don’t just pretend to be good! Put away deceit and JEALOUSY and talking about others behind their backs.

Throughout the Bible, jealousy has caused much confusion and grief. The very first murder in the Word occurred when Cain became jealous of HIS BROTHER Abel, and took him into the field and murdered him – Genesis 4:4-8:

…Jahwah looked with favor on/WAS PLEASED WITH/approved of Abel and his GIFT, BUT HE REJECTED CAIN AND HIS GIFT. Then Cain became JEALOUS and BURNED WITH ANGER.


Then Jahwah spoke to Cain: Why is your face so DARK WITH JEALOUS RAGE? If you do that which is pleasing and RIGHT, will you not be lifted up/EXALTED IN HONOUR (like the one at the wedding feast that sits in the lowest seat)? If you don’t do that which is pleasing and right, sin is lurking at your door. Its desire is for you and it will rule over you. Now Cain said to his brother Abel: Let’s go out to the field. And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.

Sarah was jealous of Hagar (Genesis 21:8-10); Joseph’s brothers were jealous of Joseph and sold him into slavery – Genesis 37:3-28:

Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made a richly ornamented robe for him. When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they HATED HIM and would not speak a kind word to him… His brothers were JEALOUS OF HIM… “Come, let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites and not lay our hands on him; after all, he is our brother, our own flesh and blood.” His brothers agreed. So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.

Jealousy is the spirit that devours – it will not inherit the Kingdom of Jahwah: Galatians 5:19-26: The WORKS OF THE FLESH are now manifested and they are: ADULTERY, gross indecency and sexual irresponsibility, idolatry/worship of false gods, witchcraft, hatred/quarrels, a contentious temper/wrath, JEALOUSY, fits of rage, SELFISHNESS/rivalry, DIVISIONS, heresies (any opinion that is contrary to the Word of Jahwah), ENVY, murders, drunkenness, gluttony, and similar things. I warn you now, as I warned you before: those who do such things WILL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF JAHWAH… You cannot belong to Messiah Jahshuwah unless you crucify all self-indulgent PASSIONS and LUSTS.

We must stop being CONCEITED/PROUD, PROVOKING and ENVYING one another. (or, Let us not desire VAIN GLORY, provoking one another, envying one another.)

The majority of rebellion in jealousy is found in the giving of gifts of the Spirit. Everyone in the Body receives the gift of Salvation, but not everyone receives one of the Gifts of the Spirit. I am not speaking of TALENTS or places in the Body, but of Gifts of the Spirit such as prophecy, Word of Wisdom, hospitality, Word of Knowledge, teaching,


etc. Each and every one of Jahwah’s elect has a specific place in the Body, but they certainly ARE NOT the whole body. When someone in the Body receives one of these gifts, a spirit of jealousy immediately arises in some who haven’t received a gift. This makes a breech in the Body and allows all evil spirits to enter. It spreads like a cancer throughout the Body; the fleshly man rises up – exalts himself - and insists on being the WHOLE BODY. In his mind, there is no room in the Body except for himself. He is all-knowing and has every last gift there is available. He is counselor, righteous judge, prophet, teacher, discerner of spirits, etc. He is the whole enchilada. It is now time for the Wedding Feast and preparations are being made. Members of his Body are being set in place. Jahshuwah gives warning against exalting self into a place of honor at his wedding feast. Since he is in charge of placing each member into his Body, we better pay attention to his directions – Luke 14:7-11:

Jahshuwah noticed how some of the guests were CHOOSING THE PLACES OF HONOR, so he told this parable to all of them: When someone invites you to a WEDDING FEAST, do not sit down in the Place of Honor, lest one more honorable than you has been invited, and your host, who invited both of you, would have to come and say to you, “Let him have this place.” Then you would be embarrassed and HAVE TO SIT IN THE

LOWEST PLACE. Instead, when you are invited, GO AND SIT IN THE LOWEST PLACE, so that your host will come to you and say, “Come on up, my friend, to a better place.” This will bring you honor in the presence of all the other guests. For everyone who gives himself a high place WILL BE PUT DOWN, but he who takes a low place will be LIFTED UP.

Let us all learn this lesson well. We have an invitation to the Wedding, so when we enter let us humble ourselves and take the low seat. Now let’s get back to Korah and his band of jealous men. Jahwah gives the command to wear the tassels:

It will be unto you for a tassel, so you may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of Jahwah, and do them; and that ye seek not after the lusts of your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye go a whoring; that ye may remember and do all My commandments, and be holy unto your Elohim.

When Jahwah gave the order to wear the tassels, Korah and a group of men rebelled against the wearing of the tassels. Pseudo-Philo, a history of Israel from the time of Adam to David, fills in the story of Korah’s rebellion.


Pseudo-Philo 16:1- 6: In that time, HE COMMANDED THAT MAN ABOUT THE

TASSELS. And then Korah and…men with him rebelled and said: WHY IS AN UNBEARABLE LAW IMPOSED UPON US? Then Jahwah was angry… The earth will swallow them up… Though Moses was speaking all these words to the people, Korah and his men were still defiant… …And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up and their households.

Notice how their cry of rebellion is exactly the same that we hear today: Why do we have to keep Jahwah’s Torah? You have gone too far! The whole community is HOLY, every one of them, and Jahwah is with them. Why then DO YOU SET YOURSELVES ABOVE JAHWAH’S ASSEMBLY? Moses and Aaron did not exalt themselves above Israel. Jahwah did! Anytime Jahwah places a person in a position to bring forth the Word, the above accusation will be shouted from the highest places, as the Spirit of Jealousy has entered and judgment follows close behind.

The Body of Jahshuwah is a royal priesthood and is required to do certain things. First of all they have been CALLED OUT OF DARKNESS. They must WALK IN THE

LIGHT. They must exhibit that light in their walk.

Helmet comes from the Greek word peri, which means something circling the head, which again points to a small circle cap that covers the head. The donning of this cap is a public declaration of showing fear and respect of our Father, Jahwah.

Since the Torah expressly commands the priests to wear a linen hemispherical cap, only those obeying can enter and be a minister to Jahwah in the Tabernacle of Appointed Times; the same would apply for those entering the Kingdom of Jahwah. Even Moses was not commanded to remove his head covering when he entered the presence of Jahwah at the burning bush; he was only told to remove his shoes. Micah 4:2 states that the Torah will go forth from Zion. Keeping this in mind let’s read Hebrews 12:2, 22:

Zion is #4622 in Strong’s and means A HILL. Take special notice how the kippah is shaped like a little hill. Jahwah chose to place his city, Jahwah Shammah (Jahwah is there) on Mount Zion. The kippah sits on the heads of the Jahwah’s men, representing Mount Zion from which flows the Torah. The priestly men of Jahwah adorn themselves with the kippah and tallit and walk in the Torah, thus the Law is going forth from Mount Zion. The priests will teach the difference between the Holy and profane and to discern between the clean and the unclean. They will keep the Torah, the set-time ordinances, and judge the people according to Jahwah’s divine laws – Ezekiel 44:23 & 24:

The men in submission to Jahwah and His son, the Living Word/Torah, wear this cap/kippah when coming into the presence of Jahwah. Wearing the kippah shows that Jahshuwah is man’s HEAD. In the same way, a bride shows submission to her husband when she veils her head, the man shows submission by donning the cap/kippah representing Zion; thus he shows Jahshuwah as his head and that he is submitting to Jahwah’s Torah coming out of Zion – Isaiah 2:3:

The linen kippah was placed on the Priest’s heads in Exodus 29:9 & 39:28. The kippah was translated as “bonnet” in the King James Translation. The head covering placed on every priest is #4021 migbaah in Strong’s concordance: from the same as 1389; a cap as HEMISPHERICAL. The word hemi means HALF; sphere means a globe or BALL, hence it is round. The priestly cap is thus in the shape of HALF A BALL. No. 4021 is from the same as #1389 - gibah, a little hill; From the same as 1387 – Geba - a hillock; from the same as 1375 – gebiya – from a unused root meaning to be convex. From the definitions above, the priestly cap was convexed and resembled a little hill. Convex means to curve outward like a segment of a globe or a circle as viewed from the outside; bulging outward or arched up, opposed to being concaved, curving inwards. The Interpreter’s Dictionary of The Bible describes the priestly cap in this way:

Cap: (Exodus 28:40, 29:9, 39:28 & Lev. 8:13) – a conical-shaped object of finely woven white linen tied on the head of the priest, as a sign of his investiture (installation). The cap was a distinctive item of the priestly vestments.

Unger’s Bible Dictionary outlines the dress of the priest, including the Kippah:

When not in actual service neither the priest nor even the high priest, wore a distinctive dress: but when ministering in the sanctuary, the priests were required to wear…a CAP OF LINEN, and probably resembling in shape the inverted calyx (cuplike) of a flower…

The High Priest also wore the Priestly Kippah/cap, but the High Priest wrapped a linen cloth around this Cap to make a Mitre, or wrapped Turban. Mitre is #4701 – mitsnepheth from 6801 tsanaph – a primitive root meaning to wrap, i.e. roll, wind around, wrap or wind up together. Unger’s Bible Dictionary states:



The miter (Heb. Misepheth, wound round) was a kind of turban, which, according to Josephus and Philo, consisted of an ORDINARY PRIEST’S CAP with a turban of dark-blue color over it. On the front of this latter was a diadem of pure gold (i.e., a thin gold plate) on which was engraved, “Holy to Jahwah,” and fastened with a dark-blue cord (Exodus 28:36-38; 39:30).
