University Law College to be renamed

On the occasion of its golden jubilee celebrations, the University Law College here will be renamed KarnatakUniversity's Sir Siddappa Kambli Law College.

The renaming of the college was formally announced at the inaugural ceremony of the college's golden jubileecelebrations here on Friday. Veteran journalist Patil Puttappa commended the university's decision to name the lawcollege after the late Sir Siddappa Kambli, a legal luminary who was instrumental in establishing Karnatak Universityas Minister for Education of the then government of the Bombay Presidency.

Recollecting his acquaintance with Kambli, Mr. Puttappa said he was a role model for all — lawyers, politicians aswell as ordinary people. Modern-day politicians had a lot to learn from the life and works Kambli, who was a powerfulMinister handling seven portfolios at a time. He was born into a poor family, but came up in life through hard workand dedicated his life for the welfare of society.
