ADVANTAGES
THE HDS SERIES Not one to run dry
dard sizes: S, M and L.
The difference between S, M and L lies
in the throughput capabilities as well as
in special features, for instance, an inte-
grated water treatment system, a
mobile chassis or a washing unit for the
light fraction. The machines are similar
in the way they carry out the density
separation, using a water bath with
upwards directed current.
Water is always used in the treatment
process when the products are sub-
jected to particularly high quality
requirements. This is the case, for
instance, if wind sifting cannot achieve
a precise enough density separation. A
sink–float separation system achieves
significantly more precise separation
by virtue of the small influence of the
face area of the particles. If the density
cut should be above the density of
water, an integrated propeller can be
used to vary the upwards directed cur-
rent inside the water bath. This causes
only those particles to sink to the bot-
tom of the tank that descend with a
higher relative velocity than the veloc-
ity of the upflow current. This way,
soaked wood or heavy plastic particles
are kept afloat and discharged as part
of the light fraction as well. Hydraulic
density separators come in three stan-
THE MACHINES IN COMPARISON The most important advantages
HDS-S Water-based density separation – quite small
WATER BATHThe water bath features an infinitely adjust-
able upflow current driven by a propeller
which makes material of a higher density float
so that it can be separated as part of the light
fraction.
SCREW CONVEYOR FOR THE HEAVY FRACTIONThe heavy fraction settling to the bottom of
the water bath is collected and discharged by
the screw conveyor. The heavy fraction can
also be showered by nozzles to clean it fur-
ther on its way through the screw conveyor.

material from the input, it is ready for
further processing, energetic utilization
or recycling. Just like its bigger broth-
ers, the HDS-S features an integrated
propeller to create upflow current in
the water bath. This enables separation
at a density cut above that of water. In
this way, for instance, wet wood or
dense plastic can be kept afloat in order
to separate it from stones. In addition
to the small footprint and high separa-
tion accuracy, a prominent feature of
Apparently the smallest separator in
the HDS series, is the ideal complement
for plants that already run their own
water treatment. The small, capable
machine blends into all kinds of existing
recycling plants. In combination with
the Gritbuster WT 250, it turns into a
one-stop solution for washing, stone
removal and density separation.
That is especially the case for mixtures
of light and heavy components. After
reliably separating unwanted mineral
the machine is its extreme endurance:
Depending on the input material, the
HDS-S is capable of producing 10 to
20 m³ per hour on an installation area
of just 17 m². The plug and play system
is easy and quick to start up thanks to
its integrated switch cabinet. As soon
as the water and electricity supplies are
installed and the machine is filled with
water, it is ready to go.
ROD CONVEYOR BELTThe floating fraction is discharged via a rod
conveyor belt with a length of 2,397 mm.
The floating fraction is separated from the
water flow on the rods similar to a rake
while the water flows through them and is
recirculated.

HDS-M Medium-sized water-based density separation
STONE SCREW CONVEYORThe heavy fraction sedimenting in the water
bath is discharged via a screw conveyor.
DISCHARGE CONVEYOR FOR THE LIGHT FRACTIONOnce it has been separated from the heavy
fraction and surface contamination, the
light fraction is dropped off via a belt con-
veyor at a height of around 2.5 m.
WASHING DRUMThe 6 mm mesh size of the washing
drum serves the purpose of drainage.
Friction between the material being
washed causes the removal of surface
contamination.
tling tank with continuous sediment
discharge, the process water gets recir-
culated in a closed loop. This way the
HDS-M can be operated without exter-
nal water treatment for several days.
Depending on input material, it reaches
a throughput of 20 to 30 m³ per hour.
The entire system includes an integrated
control cabinet and is ready for immedi-
ate use. Compared to the HDS-S, the
HDS-M has a washing drum in addition
The HDS-M separates input material
according to its density, using a water
bath. It is a very versatile machine. In
order to adjust the density cut of the
separation, an additional sifting effect
can be employed using upflow current.
The result: You can be sure of getting
perfectly separated fractions in the
highest possible quality, ready and
waiting for you to assign them to their
next use. Thanks to an integrated set-
to the sink–float separation.
The drum separates the light fraction
from its adhering surface contaminants
like soil or mud.
VIBRATING SCREENFloating substances which have been washed
off the light fraction in the washing drum are
discharged along with the water at the over-
flow and then separated with a screen.SLUDGE SCREW CONVEYORContaminations with higher density settle
to the bottom of the settling tank and are
discharged via a screw conveyor.

VIBRATING CHUTEApplication of input material to the chute
needs to be controlled and continuous.
Water is supplied and the material passes
below a rubber curtain to be fully submerged
in the water bath.
HDS-L Water-based density separation – very big
UPFLOW UNITA propeller generates an upflow current
in the water bath, causing water to over-
flow into the washing drum. The density cut
of the separation can be varied using the
velocity of the upflow.
LAMELLA PACKThe lamella separator reduces the settling
distance of the sedimenting particles and in
that way enhances settling performance at
the same settling velocity. In other words:
the effective settling surface is much higher
than the actual surface of the settling tank.
STONE DISCHARGE The heavy fraction is discharged from the
water bath via a rod conveyor and a chute.
REAR CONVEYORThe rear conveyor used for discharging the
clean light fraction can be rotated around
a vertical axis by 180°. This means that the
machine does not have to be moved around,
and the tip of washed light product does not
need to be taken away that often.
veyor belt that can be rotated in the
horizontal plane by 180 degrees.
Sediments are removed from the wash-
ing water using a lamella clarifier, which
enables process water recirculation.
This reduces the need for fresh water
supply to a minimum. A screw conveyor
collects the sludge from the lamella
clarifier in a pump sump, where it is
pumped into a suitable container by
means of a sludge pump.
Thanks to the lamellas in the settling
The HDS-L incorporates three essential
process steps in one machine: stone
removal, washing and water treatment.
In the first step, the feed material is
separated from stones and other heavy
components using a water bath with
upflow current. A rod conveyor belt dis-
charges the stones via a chute. The light
fraction follows the water overflow into
the downstream washing drum, where
it is rinsed and drained. The clean light
fraction is discharged via a rear con-
tank, the settling area is increased to
50 m². Thus, depending on the wash
water composition and settling
behaviour a cleaning performance of
about 50 m³ per hour can be achieved.
The HDS-L is similar to a mobile fac-
tory: the system is able to reach a full
load of 200 m³/h. The whole machine is
built onto a high-speed trailer chassis
that enables flexible operation and
transport on site and from one site to
another.
WASHING DRUMThe light fraction is carried to the washing
drum by the water flow. Here, surface con-
tamination like dirt is removed as a result
of friction between material particles and
the addition of washing water.
