PTSA PRESIDENT TAKES NOTEJill Rintoul

his will be the last PTSA newsletter of the school year! It is hard to believe that May

is already upon us and we will be finished with the school year very soon. I want to take this time to thank all of the people that have made this a great year. First, I would like to thank my awesome board this year. As President, I am only as good as the board that supports me and I was so very fortunate to have a board that took the initiative with their committees, projects, and events and got their jobs done successfully. I also want to thank the Randall Administration and Staff for their support of our PTSA throughout the year. Finally, I would like to thank all of you who have volunteered in any way for Randall this year. The PTSA and school would not be able to offer everything we do to our students and staff without volunteers to help.

We had our most successful Ice Cream Social for incoming 6th graders on April 24th. Jen Abdoney and her Staff Recognition Committee scooped over 18 gallons of ice cream out to over 500 soon to be Randall Hawks. Thanks to Jen and her committee! We also greatly appreciate Michael Abdoney from Abdoney Orthodontics for sponsoring the evening and all the free good-ies given out to all!

Please join us Thursday, May 1st at 4:30PM for our last General Meeting in the cafeteria before conference night. We will be voting in the new slate of officers for the 2014-2015 PTSA Execu-tive Committee.

For those of you that are leaving Randall with 8th graders, I wish you the best of luck. Hope to see some of you back next year! Have a great summer and be safe!

THE NATIONAL PTA REFLECTIONS PROGRAMKathy McAdam

The national PTA Reflections program is an arts recognition and achievement program for students. The Re-flections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by a pre-selected theme, while increasing community awareness of the importance of the arts in education.

The 2014 – 2015 theme for the PTA Reflections program will be, ‘The world would be a better place if…”

Start creating! We look forward to seeing your creative pieces next year!

The R.A.Y.S. Council is collecting gently used and clean clothing, personal items, and books for A Kid's Place, a local foster facility. EARTH DAY ROCKSAimee Eftink

On April 22, Mrs. Kahn and Mrs. Eftink's class observed Earth Day. One of the projects was to pick up trash around the school. They filled almost one large trash bag. Some items found were socks, disinte-grated jackets, water bottles, candy wrappers, pens and pencils, hair accessories, and plastic bags. Hunter Bennett was quoted saying "if we don't clean up the Earth, the plants and animals will die.” Austin Huffman stated that picking up trash was not only important, "it's a

fun way to spend time outside!" We did our part, now please do yours. As much fun as we had, it was also sad to see so much trash around our school! Please throw your trash away!

COUNSELOR’S CORNERMelissa Miller, 7th Grade Counselor

H ere is the important information for you to be aware of in May and June:

1. It’s very important that all students real-ize that school doesn’t end until June 6th, so they need to keep up on their homework, classwork, attendance, tests, grades, behavior, etc. Everyone needs to earn at least two quality points this last semester for each class in order to pass. Letters were mailed home to those students who still haven’t earned the needed quality points.2. Conference night is Thursday 5/1/14 from 5:00-7:00PM, and it’s on a drop-in basis so please attend if your student needs help in any of his/her classes.3. FCAT testing will continue until 5/7/14 and then the Civics EOC (end of course exam) will be held during the week of 5/6/14. The 7th grade teachers have been holding a Boot Camp to help students prepare for this exam, and it will end on 5/3/14. The Algebra EOC will be held during the week of 5/12/14, and the Geometry EOC will be held on 5/20 and 5/21. Semester exams will be held during the week of 6/2/14, so it’s very important to attend school during all of these times. Everyone has worked very hard to prepare for these tests including students, teachers, staff, and parents, so think positively and come prepared to do your best!4. Teacher Appreciation Week is during the week of 5/5/14, and we certainly appreciate everything Randall’s hard-working teachers have done all year to help the students!

5. The Perfect Attendance ice cream so-cial will be held in the afternoon of 5/12/14.6. The AVID Parent night will be on 5/21/14 at 5:00PM. It will be a College Palooza and the Rays Council will also participate. Please contact Ms. Webb for more information.7. The fifth graders from our feeder schools will be touring Randall during the week of 5/20/14.8. The Honors Night awards ceremony will be held on 5/19/14 at 6:30PM in the gym, and invitations will be sent out to those stu-dents who will be receiving awards. 9. The Principal’s Honor Roll party for 6th graders will be on 5/7 at 2:30PM in the cafeteria. 7th graders will be on 5/8 and 8th graders will be on 5/9 at the same time and place.10. There will be no school on Monday 5/26/14 for Memorial Day. Enjoy your day off!11. The 8th grade send-off will be on the last day of school Friday, 6/6/14.12. The Extended Learning Program ends Monday 6/2/14. It is for students who didn’t pass a class during one of the previous quarters, so it’s very important to come each and every day they’re scheduled to attend to make up those classes.13. The Character Ed qualities for the May 19th lesson will be diversity for 6th grade, equality for 7th grade, and integrity for 8th grade.14. Be sure to check Edsby regularly and

keep in touch with teachers via email in order to ensure your students are doing well. Grades will be uploaded on 5/8 and 5/22 and 6/9.15. Ms. Deschnow will be holding her last “Binder Busters” meeting on Friday May 2nd for students who need help getting organized. It will be in Room 209 at 8:30AM.16. Be sure to check the Randall Happenings Calendar to participate and wear Randall shirts and colors on Fridays for school spirit and to earn extra Hawk Bucks.17. Ms. Richards is the 6th grade counselor and can be reached at [email protected] or at 740-3900 x231. Ms. Miller is the 7th grade counselor and can be reached at [email protected] or at 740-3900 x255. Ms. Roberts is the 8th grade counselor and can be reached at [email protected] or at 740-3900 x233.18. Tampa Bay Technical High School is holding a career exploration summer camp for exiting 7th graders. You will learn about the fields of commercial arts, culinary arts, early childhood education, medical, architecture, marching band, business and welding. It will be July 7th through 10th at 8AM to noon and it costs $85. For more information, call 744-8360 x365.

The community is invited to visit throughout the weekend and on Memorial Day to see the display and leave notes of thanks on our “Wall of Rememberance.”
