BIRTHS

From the Pastor … “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you;

not as the world gives do I give you.” - John 14:27a

A week ago I am backing out of a parking space at the Stowe Family YMCA looking to my rear left, but not completely to my rear right, and end up tapping the rear bumper of a car on the other side of the lot doing the same thing. Then driving early Monday morning to Winston-Salem to care for my parents, a sudden torrential downpour is going on as I turn right onto the I-85 North entry ramp beside Arby’s off Keener Boulevard and, though looking in every direction while inching forward, the car ahead of me starts then stops suddenly and I bump its rear bumper (fortunately doing minimal damage). But then Thursday after a day spent negotiating a new home for my parents in an Assisted Living facility in Clemmons, I return to Belmont just in time to work-off some steam by running a few miles on the treadmill at the Y only to lock Mary’s keys in her car (we only have one set; I lost the others!) and end up wasting an hour as AAA comes to the rescue and recovers the keys by “breaking in” to the car. Talk about stress!

Stress manifests itself in our lives in so many ways. It seems like only a month ago we are enjoying the peace and tranquility of summer; yet in one short month I find myself moving my parents with our church beginning a new church program ministry year (Rally Day, Kids Central, Stewardship Season), searching for a new Weekday School Director, and navigating two Sunday morning worship services and a new more efficient digital process for “checking-in” our children Sundays and Wednesdays (and possibly for all scout groups too).

Add all the above to the unanticipated surprises and challenges in your life and that of your family, alongside the national hysteria of a Presidential election year amid local and national civil rights protests and ongoing threats of international terror, and stress describes much of our lives during the fall of 2016. Thank the Lord for my wife who each day this week has encouraged me with the words that appeared all over London during the German bombing of World War II: “Please remain calm.” And Mary’s daily prayers for me are strengthened by my own reliance upon those familiar words of Jesus quoted to begin this article that end with the most comforting words of all:

“Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” - John 14:27b

Worship Volunteer Schedule Mission Trip Opportunity

Kids Central Kingdom Fest

October Birthdays

This fall, the Missions Committee of PWNC is offering a mission trip to South Carolina to continue the work done in our first mission trip down there this past May. We will go to the area around Lake Murray (near Columbia) to work on houses which were flooded last year. This will be done through the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Program and the Saint Bernard Project. The trip is October 16-22.

Please click to download the registration forms. Please offer this information to your congregation. Registration forms will also be available at the Presbytery website.

Thank you, Ed Forsyth, Chair PWNC Missions Committee

You can now pay your pledge online through the church website by visiting www.fpc-belmont.org and click on

the “Online Giving” icon.

Music Ministry

Kingdom Fest Wednesday, October 19, 2016

4:30 p.m. - 6:15 p.m.

A unique, multisensory fall event will take place during Kids Central on Wednesday, October 19. This royalty-themed adventure is designed to provide a fun fall alternative for children as they travel through engaging, station-based experiences. Guests will enjoy games, activities, challenges, and an interactive drama—all while celebrat-ing Jesus’ love in a new and refreshing way. Everyone will experience this adventure together, discovering that no matter what, Jesus is with us

Join us for an unforgettable experience this fall!

On World Communion Sunday the Sanctuary Choir will sing a new anthem by Lee Dengler that I heard at the Montreat Conference on Worship and Music this past June. “We Are Redeemed” reminds us that we all fall short of the glory of God.

We are redeemed when we believe in Christ and receive His grace. You will hear an old familiar and much loved tune woven together with the new tune. Drumming for 4th-5th graders is being offered at 4:00 PM prior to Kids Central during the month of October. If you haven’t registered your child, please do so immediately so that materials and instruments can be made available. The children will learn how to tell a Bible story through drumming.

Come join the Young at Hearts for a Fall Excursion. On Thursday, October 13th, the Young at Hearts are go to Lexington, NC and making two big stops. First, we’ll have lunch at the original "Lexington Barbecue" restaurant, known to many and especially to the Lexington locals as "The Monk." This legendary restaurant was established back in 1962 by Wayne Monk and his family and is still going strong with their authentic Lexington barbecue. Then we’re going a short piece down the road from the Restaurant to the Bob Timberlake Gallery. Bob Timberlake, a native son of North Carolina, has an outstanding Gallery there. It serves as an art museum and features a unique combination of a fine-clothing boutique, a stationery and card shop complete with Christmas ornaments, along with a furniture and home finishings section, all housed together and bearing the Timberlake name. The Gallery also has its own Riverwood Coffee Shop if you want an after-lunch break. We’ll leave from the Church at 10am, and the total cost for this trip is $10; we really hope you come join us for what promises to be a good time and a fun day. Contact Beth Geddis to make your reservation. (704-825-4707)
