THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU…

When I was a boy I had a hunting dog that was a good dog ... most of

the time. The only problem I ever had was when I tried to feed him, when my

hand was still on his feeding bowl, he would growl and snap at me! All the

while I’m thinking, “I’m feeding you! We even paid for this food and I’m bringing it too you in a bowl, and you’re trying to bite me?” Think about that.

That dog had a warm shelter. We bought a bowl and a collar and

vaccinations and food. But still he shows no gratitude!

In a similar way we should never take an attitude with God, except for

the attitude of gratitude. Every time we speak with Him we should spend

some time expressing our gratitude for all he had done for us, all He is doing

now, and all that He has promised to do in the future.

We should demonstrate the spirit of Matthew Henry, the famous Bible

scholar who when his house was burglarized, wrote in his diary:

“Let me be thankful first, because I was never robbed before. Second,

because although they took my purse, they did not take my life. Third, let me

be thankful that although they took my all, it was not much. And fourth,

because it was I who was robbed and not I who robbed.”
