4 • Best Companies to Work for in New York 2019

How the Best Companies Were SelectedNew York is a great place to live and work, with a

quality workforce and world-class businesses mak-

ing up two of its most valuable resources. Th e Best

Companies to Work for in New York program helps

bring these resources together to ensure New York’s

leadership in the economy of the future.

Best Companies to Work for in New York is a

celebration of the state’s elite employers, which have

proven that they know what it takes to create an envi-

ronment where people love to come to work. Identi-

fying and recognizing these employers of choice is a

joint eff ort of the New York State Society for Human

Resource Management (NYS-SHRM) and Best Com-

panies Group.

Th e Best Companies to Work for in New York

program is open to all publicly or privately held

organizations, either for-profi t or not-for-profi t. To be

eligible for consideration, companies must have at

least 15 employees in New York state, have a facility

in New York state and have been in business a mini-

mum of one year.

Th e survey process was managed by Best Com-

panies Group. A two-part survey process collected

information about each company. Th at information

was then evaluated and used to determine the fi nal

rankings.

Part one of the assessment (one-quarter of each

company’s score) consists of an employer survey that

collects information about each company’s benefi ts,

policies, practices and other general data. Part two

of the assessment (representing three-quarters of

each company’s total score) consists of a confi den-

tial employee survey that evaluates the employees’

workplace experience. Th e two assessments provide

information used in an in-depth analysis of the

strengths of each company and the opportunities to

build a better workplace.

Each company that participated in the program

received an Employee Feedback Report that summa-

rized the employee data collected. Th is report is each

company’s report card. Not only is it rich with infor-

mation about how employees are feeling, but it also

includes averaged benchmarking data from com-

panies that made the list. Th e goal of the Employee

Feedback Report is to help each company to better

understand its workforce and equip it with tools to

make its workplace even better.

Companies that completed the entire assessment

process were then eligible for a spot on the list of the

Best Companies to Work for in New York. Th e list is

broken into three categories: 26 large companies with

250 or more U.S. employees, 23 medium companies

with 100 to 249 U.S. employees and 26 small compa-

nies with 15 to 99 U.S. employees.

Th e companies presented in the following pages

are indeed innovators and the ones that other com-

panies use as benchmarks. As you read their profi les,

you’ll see the often unique ways that these compa-

nies are able to help their employees — and their

businesses — succeed. For more information on this

From the Program Chair:Congratulations to our 75 winning Best Companies to

Work for in New York State! As the Chair of this amazing

program in its 11th year and as an executive recruiter for

more than a decade, I’m often asked about the chang-

es I’ve seen in the business world since this program

started. We all recognize that the world has experienced

rapid change, life-altering events and shifts that have

impacted our economy. One can only hope that as we

continue to build a platform for dialogue, like the recent

award winners at the Oscars and Golden Globes have,

we will see results refl ected in our workplace that trend

toward entrepreneurship, inclusivity, innovation and

transparency. As a statewide program, our purpose is

to provide awards and recognition to companies of all

sizes from various industries, services and mission state-

ments. Our winners on the Best Companies list repre-

sent the inclusivity of the future, celebrate the diverse

perspectives of all races and nationalities and accept

a variety of sexual orientations. Th ey foster dialogue

newly discussed in the workplace. We also see, on bright

display, the recognition of the strength and power of

women not just in the ability to balance the demands of

work and home, but also to enhance the workplace with

keen insight on human instincts and business strategy.

Many of our winning companies place a high value

on these beliefs and more, which contribute to

their ability to attract and retain top talent with a

wide spectrum of skills, styles and perspectives,

something which was not as prevalent a decade

ago. So cheers to all our winners and heartfelt

congratulations for earning this prestigious hon-

or! May the great work and ability to be authentic

continue to grow and drive positive business

results, crowning you the most highly engaged

places to work in the great State of New York!
