NO BIOGRAPHY, JUST A PORTRAIT

Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, 2Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; 3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, 4That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed (Luke 1:1-4, KJV).

“And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name” (John 20:3-31).

“And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen. (John 21:25).

Introduction It has been often discussed why we were given no biography of the life of Jesus Christ. The four Gospels are incomplete as a biography, but powerfully enlightening as a portrait. The main thrust of the Gospel is that men and women everywhere come to know Jesus Christ. He is the central theme of the Gospel. All teachings, events, prophecies, types, covenants, promises and revelation of the Scripture pertain to Him. He is revealed only to those who seek to know Him, and those who know Him are left seeking to know more. The four Gospels give us distinctly four portraits that compose the Messiah. Informing us that to know Him is more important than just knowing about him.

Luke The Gospel writer Luke was a traveling companion of the Apostle Paul, the writer of the book of the Acts of the Apostles and the gospel we call Luke. He was not an eyewitness of the events of the life of Christ, but as he stated his gospel was written based on eyewitness accounts of those who saw, heard, lived, worked with and experienced Jesus in his lifetime. The witnesses are numerous some of whom we can identify from reading the accounts. There were rumors of accounts about Jesus. Many of them have been confirmed and recorded for us in Scripture by the writers themselves. By reading what has been delivered to us by the writers of the New Testament, we are given a portrait of a Christ who is greater than life and death.

JohnThe Apostle John’s Gospel tells us that there are a

multitude of unrecorded events concerning the works of Christ. Works so numerous that the world could not contain the books if they were recorded. Perhaps this is why there is no biography of his life. What we are given in the first four books of the New Testament is enough for us to believe and know. The Apostle John ‘s interpretation of Christ turning the water to wine was the first many miracles He would performed and that they were a manifestation of His glory. The miracles of Christ were a manifestation of how who and how great He is. God glorified in the person of Jesus Christ. Salvation brings us into a relationship and knowledge of who Jesus is. The opportunity for all to know Jesus is presented in the these four books. They are not a biography, Just a portrait..
