WHYMALAYSIA?

Malaysia has been selected as the host country as it will focus on the development of electric vehicles and emerging technologies under its National Automotive Policy (NAP) 2019, which will transform the industry and position Malaysia into a key manufacturing hub.

NAP will overlook the entire automotive ecosystem, covering four key pillars of connected mobility, Industrial Revolution 4.0, new generation vehicles, and artificial intelligence. It will also drive the development for new generation vehicles which encompass infrastructure such as charging stations, traffic management systems and batteries / energy storage technologies.

Over 20 proposals on the third national car project have been submitted to date from various sub-sectors, comprising small to large companies in the automotive sector, which includes some “big players”.

One of the biggest passenger car markets in the region accounting for 533,202 vehicles in 2018 and a strong supply chain of OEM auto parts and components manufacturers and suppliers.

The moment the Prime Minister agreed to become MIGHT’s Patron, we immediately geared ourselves to support his high technology agenda. Subsequently, the first task given to MIGHT was to lead and coordinate the development of a new national car project (NNCP). Cementing that mandate, MIGHT remains under the purview of the Prime Minister’s Department to develop the high technology industry through partnerships between the public and private sector plus academia.
