The Florence Nightingale Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony
The lamp lighting ceremony in the name of the Florence
Nightingale, the Lady with the Lamp, is an auspicious occasion
in every nurse’s life. Mrs Bindu V Modi, MA, Clinical Psychologist
and Psychotherapist Trustee in Zwilling Foundation India, was
the chief guest for the program held at the College on 12th May.
The lighting of the lamp formally signifies the student’s entry into
the nursing profession. It is a simple yet grand occasion where
students stand in neat rows and columns holding a lit lamp and
take the vow that is known all over as the Florence Nightingale
pledge.
The oath taking ceremony was led by Mrs Modi and in her
message, she advised the students to treat their patients with
love and care, ever mindful of their physical and psychological
needs. In his address, the Director G V Subrahmanian talked
about the importance of treating all patients equally, with all care
and dedication.

The second quarter of the year is
when our focus shifts outwards -
from on-campus learning to getting
students enrolled in internships and
training opportunities and helping
them navigate the often uncertain
beginnings of a professional career.
This quarter was no different. Our
students were for the most part in
training with our industrial and
training partners in Puducherry and
in Chennai. For the aspiring nursing
assistants at the College however,
classes continued and the highpoint
was the lamp lighting ceremony that
you will get to read about in this
edition.
We continued with our tree
plantation initiative and have plans to
team up with a well-known Green
organization in the new academic
year, but more of that later.
We were quite surprised by the
growing popularity of International
Yoga Day and the city-wide
involvement of our faculty and
students in this event. We are
thinking of taking yoga to a whole
new level in the coming academic
year, but again, more of that later.
Do stay in touch. Cheers!
Academic Activities
Students of the Diploma in Automobile Mechanism stream interacting with officers Kalisaran and Sithanandan from Tattvika Technolgies
A spate of campus interviews were held during the quarter for job openings with our many industrial partners. Among companies that carried out campus selections were Tattvika Prajja Technologies, Wabco India Ltd, ABP Motors and Leo Fasteners.
Student Projects Activities At SVRCC we lay a lot of stress on nurturing the creative spark of our students and student-initiated
projects are integral to learning at SVRCC. A solar battery-operated bus, a remotely operated room
lighting system and a two-wheeler made of discarded items were some of the projects undertaken.
Students of the Automobile Technician course and the House Electrician and Plumbing Technician
courses took part in a science exhibition conducted by Puducherry Government held on 28th April at
the Women ITI College in Puducherry.

It is happy augury that the students and staff of SVRCC have embraced the tree plantation idea with
vigour. In the second phase of our green initiative, a hundred saplings were planted in early April at
the Tsunami Quarters located near the College, with the help, support and participation of the local
community. Twenty five saplings were given away to students for planting in their homes and villages
by the Principal Anuradha Subrahmanian.
Blood Donation Camps
SVRCC teachers and students donated blood in the third week of April at a blood donation camp
organized by the Chinmaya Mission. The College has plans to initiate a blood donation drive at the
campus grounds in the coming year.

Community Outreach
India has been declared a polio-free nation. However, it is still mandatory that all children under the
age of five years should receive polio vaccine. Our students from the General Duty Assistant (GDA)
and the Medical Lab Technician (MLT) streams helped in the campaign which was held on April 30 to
May 3 in various places in Puducherry.
