Be Wise Proverbs 18:15 ~ An intelligent heart acquires knowledge,
and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
Did you hear about the man who is 100 plus running for office in
his state? When asked why, he replied, “I don’t like the way things
are going.” If we don’t keep an open mind and willing heart, we can
become stagnate and unresponsive to needed change.
Change has its genesis with an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Have you ever read the
scriptures and discovered something entirely new even though you have read it many times? When
you really desire to know and do the will of God, He guides you into new opportunities. Oops!
There is an antithesis to this truth. If you are unwilling to change, you will build walls around you
and change is not an option.
Look carefully then how you walk not as unwise but as wise. Ephesians 5:15
After 24 years, here are some
thoughts about Student Ministry:
It’s unpredictable. The Sadducees
and Pharisees were not chosen, but
the fishermen and tax collector
were. While trying to have a retreat
with His disciples, Jesus ends up feeding 5,000.
While trying to walk through a crowd, He ends up
stopping to heal a woman. While walking to a city, He
meets a demon possessed naked guy, casts out demons,
and gets asked to leave the area! When Jesus and the
disciples plan to go places and do things, sometimes
those plans change on the fly. Stephen leaves a thriving
ministry to do God’s bidding with a foreign official.
With youth, you never know what is going to happen
next. You think you have ministry figured out, and it
changes minute to minute!
It’s expensive. Some things don’t make any sense. In
Matthew, a lady pours out a very expensive jar of
perfume on Jesus. The question arose: “why the waste”.
In the parable of the prodigal son, when the son returned,
he was given a ring, fine clothes, and a big pizza party.
His brother wanted to know why he wasn’t allotted such
treatment and expense. Some things just don’t make
sense outside a spiritual goal.
It’s about each person.
Jesus told parables about a
lost coin, a lost son, a lost
sheep, and the resounding
joy when those subjects
are found. He talks about
seeing a crowd as sheep in
need of a shepherd. He
viewed a thief on a cross
and said “this day you will be with me in paradise”.
Jesus loved unconditionally, deeply, and with His entire
physical life, up to the point of His sacrificial death.
Youth of all walks, all types of family, and all types of
financial background come to us weekly. Red and
yellow black and white, they are precious in His sight.
Each is viewed as a divine appointment. Our adults love
them all and the love they give is simply incredible.
Peace. Dave

Disclaimer: This is based on something God has convicted me with and is not directed at any other
person or event. IT IS my intention to cause you to think and evaluate your life as it has caused me to evaluate mine.
Question- What is so important about the people in authority in the church? As a pastor I would say, “Everything!” However, that is a little biased, arrogant, and not a
strong argument. James 3 warns those who are teaching to “let not many of you become
teachers, knowing that you shall receive a stricter judgment.”
**By the way, we are looking for some BSF teachers…any volunteers?**
Hebrews 13:7-9 says,
“7 Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome
of their way of life, and imitate their faith.” Verse 17 finishes up the thought saying,
“17
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an
account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.”
Verse 7 tells us to imitate the faith of those who spoke the word of God.
Leaders have a lot of wonderful things to say however their life is not to be imitated because they are in the position, but
because verse 7 assumes they are living a life in agreement with and pointing people toward the word of God.
Verse 17 finishes this thought telling us to submit to these leaders, this is of course leaders who are submitting to God.
As a leader, the privilege and responsibility is not in “knowing everything” or that the leader is just all around better, but that
he is submitted to God. (Submission does not just pertain to leaders!)
We all have opinions (I think mine are pretty good) and ultimately we will come to find out those opinions are worth as much
as a wooden nickel, because it is the word of God that is to be the truth and measurement for our life.
Do we pass on the word of God or our opinion to those under us? Do we live our life constantly looking through the lens of
Scripture or simply by what we think is best?
Can our lives be imitated?
