DVMA DISPATCH

Feed Bag page 3

This is the month to elect 2017/2018 officers for DVMA. Do you have

ideas about the direction and leadership of our club? Are you willing to

be part of the future of DVMA? Officer elections will be held at the Au-

gust meeting. Ed has emailed information and instructions to all mem-

bers about due dates and election rules.

Sister Ann of Bay Area Crisis Nursery was our guest speaker at the July

meeting, and DVMA presented a check for $500 to Sister Ann for

BACN. She was a gracious speaker and recounted a few stories from

some of the families that have been helped at BACN. The raffle was

changed to support Bay Area Crisis Nursery, and the winner Jim donated

his portion to BACN. Ed matched donations and members were excited

about DVMA’s support of BACN.

DVMA had a good showing in the Fourth of July Parade in Concord, and

it was another fun day. Many thousands of people were on the sidewalks

along the parade route and waved to entrants. Flags were in abundance.

Thanks to Karen for organizing this event. Put it on your calendar for next year.

Cool Concord Cars on July 11 was another fun event, organized by Elizabeth Cofer. Many members en-

joyed the opportunity to park their Mustangs on the streets around Todos Santos Plaza.

As everyone knows, there was a huge fire near Yosemite, with damage in Oakhurst and El Portal shortly

before the planned day trip to Yosemite on July 22. Hwy 140 was closed and social media reported that

smoke was everywhere. Our day trip to Yosemite was canceled and will be rescheduled at a later time in the

Fall.

Enjoy breakfast on August 5 after Adopt-A-Street with DVMA members. Have a wonderful month and I

will see you at our meeting on August 9.

COOL CONCORD CARS JULY 11, 2017

For the last several years DVMA has participated in the Cool Concord Cars event at Todos Santos Plaza sponsored by the city of

Concord. Our own Elizabeth Cofer is the organizer and often asks our members to help with parking. Several of us showed up and

let our Mustang pride shine—Hugh Blackwell, Chris Theodorou, John and Anne Haugrud, Juan and Norma Renteria, and Ed

Guldner. This show is a Mayor’s Choice award and John and Chris attempted greasing the palm of the show organizer to up their

chances of a win, but the trophy went to someone else anyway. Nice try, guys. Several of us drowned our disappointment in pasta

afterward at the Old Spaghetti Factory—love that spumoni ice cream!

Lots of variety The fix is in! Hugh’s baby

Where are you Norma? We want to eat! Juan’s black beauty You did say they have spumoni, right?

Another On-the-Spot Report From July 4th Parade Central

by Anne Haugrud

The city of Concord really knows how to celebrate July 4th. The enthusiasm and patriotism displayed on America’s birthday was

absolutely palpable as parade entrants took their places in line and added festive touches of red, white and blue for the upcoming

parade. We had a total of five cars and 10 members buffing and shining up their vehicles to impress the large crowds that lined the

streets surrounding Todos Santos Plaza. Kim and Ken Hendrix (came to cheer us on), John and Anne Haugrud, Juan and Norma

Renteria, Chris Theodorou, Ed Guldner, and Harry and Karen Davis. were all present and proudly representing our club. And the

crowds were definitely impressed with our display of American Muscle. The biggest cheers came when one of our group would rev

their engine to give them a taste of what these Mustangs are capable of. Let’s just say the crowd displayed a lot of thumbs-ups and

shouts of appreciation. Karen Davis led our group in their Mustang while Harry rode his motorcycle with the captain of last year’s

girls’ water polo team (remember we supported that team) behind him as he rode with his motorcycle club—Harry and Karen are

BUSY people!
