Transcript of The Father Of Modern Art #4
Reading page 173.
Few people recognized the true worth of Cezanne’s works until the last years of his life.
Many critics hated his paintings. They said he couldn’t draw. Cezanne became increasingly bitter.
Reading page 173.
At the age of fifty, he retreated to Aix. There, he devoted all his time to painting. He continued to send his paintings, a few at a time, to a dealer’s shop in Paris.
Reading page 173.
A group of young painters - Pablo Picasso amongst them -“discovered” his work. They picked up aspects of it - the new uses of color, the cubes, the so-called distortions - and carried them forward into what is now called modern art.
Reading page 173.
Cezanne died in 1906 at the age of sixty seven. His pictures each a perfect jewel to the eye, will grow in importance and popularity for centuries to come.
