We have some big Sundays coming up at St. Luke’s. Each of the next four Sundays will be unique, providing the worshiping community with incredible opportunities to worship God. This Sunday, April 24, will be our Young People’s Sunday. At both worship times, our youth and young adult will be leading us in worship. We will hear from our graduating seniors as they bring us the message. On Sunday, May 1, we will be doing something very special. We will have one combined worship experience which will take place at 10:50 AM where we will gather briefly for a time of celebrating Holy Communion. Then we will move to the fellowship hall and have lunch together. After lunch, we will break off into teams to work on service projects in and around our community. There will be an opportunity for everyone to find a project to participate in. Sunday, May 8, is Mother’s Day, which is always a great time for worship. On this Sunday, Donna Spencer will be leading us during both worship times. Many of you know that Donna is a candidate for ordained ministry in the Memphis Annual Conference. Her leadership in our worship on May 8 will be recorded and used for her evaluation as she strives to move forward in the ordination process. It is such a great joy and privilege to have Donna serving with us at St. Luke’s. I am confident in the God given abilities that she has. Please plan to be here to show Donna your support. Finally, on May 15, we will be celebrating Pentecost Sunday. We will have one combined service beginning at 10:50 AM. We encourage everyone to wear red because immediately following worship, we will take a congregational picture in the sanctuary. This Sunday is also special because we will celebrate our confirmation class as they make their professions of faith in front of the entire congregation. This event is always a vital part of any congregation. We are so thankful for and proud of our confirmation class. In His Amazing Grip,

If you thought things would begin to slow down as this year’s music season comes to an end here at St. Luke’s, boy you are mistaken. Let us take a minute to recap com-ing events. Firstly, this Friday, April 22 at 6:30pm in our sanctuary, we will be presenting a concert in memory of Mary Sanford Myatt. Mrs. Myatt had a passion for both children’s minis-try and music ministries. In conversations with one of her daughters, Mrs. Martha Hooper, she expressed that her mother loved good music in the church and she made sure this was a part of her children’s lives growing up. The Mary Sanford Myatt Memorial Concert will be presented by the St. Luke’s Chancel Choir accompanied by orchestra and organ. Portions of Faure’s Requiem, Ola Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass, and Mahler’s 2nd Symphony will be shared during this concert. It is a free event made possible by the Myatt family. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience some great music in a beautiful space in honor of a great woman. On Monday, May 16 at 7:00pm the Crown College Choir and Kammerchor (Chamber Choir) under the direction of Dr. David Donelson will be here. I am so excited to introduce Dr. Donelson who was my primary conducting teacher and academic advisor to my St. Luke’s family. This is a very special concert that is also free and open to the public. We are in great need of host families from the church to volunteer to house choir members the evening of their concert. If you are at all interested, please contact the music department for further information. And finally to conclude the St. Luke’s 15’-16’ music season, we are very pleased to welcome back to the bench former St. Luke’s Principal Organist Ms. Diane Meredith Belcher. Friday, June 3 at 6:30pm the organ will be officially re-dedicated for worship. Come and celebrate as Diane Mer-edith Belcher, current Principal Organist Wes Kirkpatrick, and Director of Music Ministries S.C. Toe work together in offering an evening of great music including Saint Saens Symphony No. 3. Please do not hesitate to contact the St. Luke’s Music De-partment with any questions on our upcoming events!S.C. Toe, [email protected]
