It seems like only yesterday, his eyes were lit with joy,As we watched with admiration, this uniformed little boy.Camp outs, picnics, Pine wood cars, the years slipped quickly by,The colors changed from blue to green, in the twinkling of an eye.

Soon came ranks of Tenderfoot, Second, First, and Star. Each leading towards that final request, once visioned from afar. And then the rank of Life, and as life can often do.The goal so close within his grasp, was dimming from his view.Yet from within he found the strength to reach that final quest,Remembering words from years gone by:I WILL DO MY BEST.

It seems like only yesterday, his eyes were lit with joy,As we watched with admiration, this uniformed little boy.Now with an eagle upon his chest, he soars, where once he ran, No longer that uniformed little boy;our Son...and Eagle...A Man.

This Uniformed Little Boy

Mario is the18 year old son of Mario M . Jimenez, Jr . and Teresa Mills . He is the younger brother of Kimberly and the older brother of Bethany . His grandparents are Mario M . Jimenez, Sr . (deceased), Angelina Jimenez, Michael J . Sepich, and Laura Beth Sepich (deceased) .

Mario began scouting in McAllen, TX as a Tiger Cub . After moving to Lubbock, he joined Pack 508 and from then on pursued scouting as not only a hobby but also a lifestyle . He loved the Pinewood Derby races, and in 2003 won first place! Also in 2003, Mario earned the Arrow of Light Award .

During his Jr . High years at J .T . Hutchinson and High School years at Lubbock High, Mario was on the Swim Team, and was involved in and competed in band, robotics, and UIL Math and Science where he won many awards . He graduated with honors from Lubbock High School in May 2010, and is currently attending South Plains College .

In 2003, Mario joined Troop 157 where he has been Patrol Leader twice, Assistant Patrol Leader, and Scribe . He attended Summer Camp at Lake Murray for many years, but also attended Camp Post and Camp Tres Ritos for many years as well . In 2005, He attended the National Jamboree in Fort A .P . Hill, Virginia as part of Troop 1839 of the South Plains Council . He was elected by troop members to be the News Reporter, and the Lubbock Avalanche Journal gave him his own column . Mario reported on the events of the troop each day in the column and gave live

news reports on the 10:00 news occasionally . Mario got to see President George W . Bush speak as well! This was an amazing trip and something He will always remember!Life is a journey; three years ago Mario understood you can’t go it alone, and accepted Christ as Lord and Savior . He then began a new journey to seek and pursue God and to follow him with all that he is . He also started attending The Heights Fellowship and joined the Youth Group pastured by Jason Bishop . Mario loved going to Youth and it became a very active part of his life . Mario also believes he would not be where he is today if it were not for the intense discipleship invested by Jason, and all the youth workers at The Heights! Mario also was given the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Tokyo, Japan with The Heights last summer . “It was a incredible experience just to see and be a part of God’s work to move through the Japanese hearts and lives . This trip will be one I will never forget,” says Mario . Today, Mario persues Christ and believes he is called to become a Pastor .

When searching for a need in the community, Mario noticed United Blood Services needed help with landscaping . After their recent construction, they were left with empty plots around their building . Mario arranged with Stan King, the executive director, to allow him to fill the plots with nice rock and build a nice, new picnic table . This helped provide United Blood Services with landscaping which made the building look more attractive, and also gave workers a place to relax and take a break .

Mario would like to thank: first and foremost, his parents for all the hard work in raising him and giving him encouragement and guidance to continue throughout life, to all the adults in troop 157 that helped him push forward and obtain his Eagle, giving him great leadership and encouragement, all the scouts that helped on his Eagle project, Grandpa Sepich who always was a model of how to live, and finally to Jason, Amanda, Toby, Kyle and Leigh Ann, and all those from the Heights who helped him grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ .

Tucker Marberry is the 17 year old son of Cecil and Sandra Marberry . He is the middle (or “the center” as he jokingly declares) child; 5 years younger than Chase and 5 years older than Olivia . He is the grandson of Stanley and Iretta Tull of Edgewood, Texas, and the late Bill and Claudia Marberry of Lubbock .

Tucker has been home schooled all his life . His unique personality and intellect have challenged his mom with the task of “just trying to stay one step ahead of him .” As a junior in high school, he enrolled in South Plains College and Texas Tech ROTC, and will graduate from high school in May with over 50 hours of college credit . He was awarded the Silver ROTC Medal from the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution for recognition of outstanding leadership qualities, military bearing and excellence, and the ROTC Challenge Coin for military knowledge . He has applied to the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he has already received a “Letter of Assurance” for Appointment, and the United States Naval Academy, where he hopes to hear very soon of an Appointment, because he much prefers the phrase, “Go Navy, Beat Army!” His goal is to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees in the field of Engineering, and to become an officer in the United States Marine Corps .

Tucker’s involvement in the Lubbock community reaches beyond troop service projects, including volunteering at the TTU therapeutic stables, entertaining senior citizens and children with magic shows, painting, mowing or cleaning for the elderly, helping to load food boxes at church, and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, South Plains Food Bank and Salvation Army .

Tucker was selected 2009 Lubbock Lions’ Club Outstanding Youth because of his commitment to volunteering . His core values and faith in God have been foundational in his desire to serve others .

Tucker spent four weeks during two summers at a challenging leadership “boot camp” called QUEST . Other activities and interests Tucker has enjoyed throughout high school include rifle competition, robotics competition, scuba diving certification, playing the piano, and wood turning .

At 15, Tucker discovered the opportunities available to him through Boy Scouts from a dear family friend, Mrs . Claire Hart . With encouragement from Mrs . Hart, and Mr . Chuck Smith, Tucker plunged into scouting with gusto . His love for outdoor adventure and challenging activities fueled his enthusiasm every step of the way . From the spring break trip on the U .S .S . Lexington to backpacking through snow up to Santa Fe Baldy on the Pecos Wilderness trip, Tucker has loved every minute of the journey . One of the many highlights for Tucker was the National Centennial Jamboree this past summer . Another of the many exhilarating moments was Order of the Arrow Tap Out in July . Tucker has served in several leadership roles in Troop 157 . His greatest passion has been in serving on Flag Detail whenever given the opportunity, as a way to honor the country he loves, and the heroes who defend it . Tucker recently participated in the “Aggie/Eagle” program at Texas A&M where he experienced life with the Corps of Cadets for a weekend with other Eagle Scouts from across the United States .

Inspired by his love and respect for the U .S . Military, Tucker worked with the Texas Air Museum in Slaton to lay a concrete sidewalk for an outdoor exhibit of a T-2B Buckeye jet trainer for his Eagle project . He is very grateful to Mr . Malcolm Lainge for his assistance and patience throughout the process, and Mr . Tim Moran with TM Concrete who generously donated the use of his equipment, resources and time to a kid who just “found him in the phone book”! Tucker would also like to express his appreciation to all the scouts, scouters and volunteers who found their way out to the Slaton air strip to give a hand and get a little dirty .

The adult leaders of Troop 157 have played a considerable role in helping Tucker “find his wings” . He humbly extends a heartfelt thank you to Mr . Payne and all the other “157” men for their selfless commitment and guidance to the troop . Tucker would like to particularly express his appreciation to Mr . Chuck Smith who has mentored Tucker, as a man of integrity, and has gone above and beyond the call of duty . Mr . Smith, you have made a significant contribution in Tucker’s life and he will always think of you with the greatest of honor and admiration .

National Jamboree in 2010 in Virginia was an exciting

adventure for Connor as well . He cherishes the skills and values that he has acquired through scouting and is looking forward to participate and learning more in years to come .

For his Eagle Scout project, Connor successfully organized and with the help of his peers, built a bike staging area at Mae Simmons Park . Mae Simmons Park is a recreational park that provides walking, hiking and mountain bike trails for citizens of Lubbock and surrounding communities . Connor is active in these activities and frequently visits Mae Simmons Park . When Connor realized there was no place to prepare or rest for these activities, he drew, planned and organized the staging area . Using skills that he acquired through his youth and influences by Boy Scout activities he completed Eagle Scout project .

Connor would like to thank the leaders and piers of Troop 157 for their encouragement, time and guidance . He is especially grateful to his family and friends for their inspiration and support . The constructive skills and lessons that Connor has learned in Boy Scouts will aid him throughout his years to come .

Wilson is the 16 year old son of Vanda and Kevin Pauwels . He has one older brother, Jon Edward Pauwels, who is also an Eagle Scout . Jon is married to Laura Lundin Pauwels . Wilson’s grandparents are Alyce Pauwels and the late Edward Pauwels, and Vada Wood and the late Farris Wood .

Wilson eagerly began his scouting career in Pack 567 as a Tiger Cub at the age of seven . He enjoyed being with his friends, camping, and learning new things as he earned each new bead or award . Wilson competed in the Pine Wood Derby and won first place in the Rain Gutter Regatta . While advancing through Cub Scouts, he received his Arrow of Light . Although his brother attained the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 157, Wilson visited several troops to determine which troop he wanted to join . After visiting Troop 157 his decision had been made . He proclaimed, “Why would I not want to be in the best?” After his Cross-over Ceremony he joined Troop 157 .

Summer Camp has become something that Wilson looks forward to . Since joining the troop, he has been to all five summer camps and several other camp outs . One of his favorite activities at summer camp is water sports . He loves to be on the water front and especially enjoyed serving as a life guard this past summer . His two favorite trips were to the Lexington aircraft carrier in Corpus Christi and to the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico . Wilson has served as Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Assistant Patrol Leader, and Librarian for Troop 157 .

Wilson has attended Lubbock Christian Schools since he was in Pre-K . In the seventh grade he was selected to be in National

Junior Honor Society . As a member of the Honor Society, he has devoted many hours to community service, and is on the A B honor roll . Wilson has participated in many different sports through LCAA, MOB, Southwest Little League, YFL, Premiere Sports, and Friendship Youth Baseball . While in Lubbock Christian Schools, he has participated in football, basketball, and baseball . In the eighth grade he was named Offensive Player of the Year in basketball . As a freshman he played varsity football, and the team advanced to the regional round . He was also on the Small School championship team at the Pat Knight Basketball Team Camp at Texas Tech this past summer . Wilson plays the trumpet for Lubbock Christian’s concert, marching and jazz bands . Last year the band was named best TAPPS band in the state . He also plays the piano .

Wilson has a deep reverence for God and his Savior Jesus Christ . He is a member of Monterey Church of Christ, and participates in youth group activities . He has attended Kanakuk Kamps, Christian sports camps in Missouri directed by Joe White, since he was nine, From K-2, the two week camp for older campers, he has received the camp-wide award of Unknown Cheerful Servant for two consecutive years . Wilson believes that Joe White and Kanakuk have been instrumental in helping him to keep Christ at the center of his life .

He considers himself fortunate to have been able to attend Lubbock Christian School throughout his education thus far, and appreciates the influence that the other students, teachers, and administrators have had on him . They continue to strengthen his faith on a daily basis . The pride Wilson has for Lubbock Christian School led to his desire for his Eagle Scout Leadership Project to benefit the school . He laid brick pavers in a heavy traffic area of the campus to help the students stay dry and clean while walking to and from classes in different buildings . The pavers also made the campus appear more aesthetically pleasing, as well as preventing mud from being tracked through the buildings . Wilson also built up some of the low spots around campus and planted grass to prevent additional erosion .

Wilson has always been an ambitious young man, and once he decides to do something, he sets goals and works to reach them . Both in scouting and sports, he has found things to strive for and opportunities to step into leadership roles . After Jon Edward achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, Wilson immediately set his sites on earning the rank as well . The path to obtaining the rank has provided him with many learning opportunities and has helped him mature as a young man .

Wilson would like to thank all the adult leaders that have helped him to reach his goal, especially Mr . Payne, Mr . Gosdin, Mr . Smith, Mr . Liner, Mr . Rapier, and Mr . Voland . Without the assistance of the adult leaders, family members, and friends, this honor would not have been possible . Your encouragement, coaching, discipline, and friendship have allowed this honor to be possible . To all of you… .Thank You .

Nicholas Tidwell, 18, is the son of Brent & Terry Tidwell of Lubbock, Texas . He is the younger brother of his sister Jamie and his brother Nathan who is also an Eagle Scout . He is the grandson of Frank Tidwell, Mary Tidwell (deceased) and Charles and Anne Gossett .

Nicholas began scouting as a Tiger Cub while attending Roscoe Wilson Elementary and continued as a cub scout with Pack 536 at Westminster Presbyterian Church . He enjoyed the night hikes at Post, survived the polar bear at Caprock Canyon and hiked to the Lighthouse at Palo Duro . He also earned his Arrow of Light, perfected the art of the watermelon cheer and making a pinewood car . During these years Nicholas is honored to have been led by Den Leaders John Winker and Jon Thompson .

As a Boy Scout in Troop 157, Nicholas completed his Leadership Training and served as Librarian and Patrol Leader . Favorite times include Guadalupe Peak, biking Palo Duro, Philmont-Kanik and of course summer camp at Lake Murray which he was able to attend for the past nine years along with his father, Brent . Through those years Nicholas changed from just showing up and earning merit badges to helping set up camp and teaching merit badges . He also enjoyed working with Indian Camp and also the overall experiences that each year brought-especially the goats, Dolly and Betsy (Where did they go again?) .

During his Jr . High years at O . L . Slaton Nicholas began swimming with L .I .S .D . and continued for the next

four years at Lubbock High where he achieved District and Region Titles each year . He qualified for the State Championship his junior year as the third leg on the Men’s Relay team . His senior year Nick was Captain of the Lubbock High Men’s Swim Team and was honored as Outstanding Lubbock High Male Swimmer for 2009-2010 . Nick graduated in May and is continuing his education at Texas A & M Galveston University where he is proud to be called a Sea Aggie .

All of these experiences culminated with the completion of Nicholas’ Eagle project where he and the team built a 12’ x 20’ outdoor shelter with two picnic tables for the Lubbock County Women’s Protective Services . This has provided much needed shade to the playground area and a comfortable place for outdoor meals . Thanks again for all the scouts who helped .

There are many other people Nicholas would like to thank: his brother Nathan and his cousins Timothy, Todd and Troy Tidwell who set the example by earning the Rank of Eagle Scout; the adult men of troop 157 who gave their time, patience, resources and leadership; the men and women of his church family who pray for him and set an example of a Godly walk; his grandparents who love him unconditionally; his mom, dad and sister who love him and continue teaching him; and Aunt Donna for her commitment and love for family and Troop 157 .

Andrew Voland is the 15 year old son of Scott and Susan Voland, and big brother to Alex and Abby . His grandparents are Ron and Helen Voland of Madison, TN and the late Ellis & Clarice Bradley of Columbia, TN .

Andrew is a sophomore at Lubbock Christian School . He is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, and a regular recipient of year-end academic awards . He plays baritone in the school’s band, receiving All Region honors during his 7th and 8th grade years . Andrew is an accomplished athlete and has participated in football, track and basketball at LCS . He was awarded Defensive Player of the Year for his efforts during the 8th grade basketball season .

Andrew is a member of Monterey Church of Christ and actively participates in the youth program there . He has a passion for helping children and serves as a volunteer during Heroes, Monterey’s worship service for 3-5 year olds . Andrew also enjoys traveling with the youth group on mission trips . His favorite was to Corpus Christi where he helped repair the roof of a church located in one of the city’s poorer communities .

Upon entering first grade, Andrew joined Pack 567 as a Tiger Cub . He quickly got hooked on campouts, Pinewood Derby races and Raingutter Regattas . As a cub, he earned the Loving Servant religious award and, as a Webelos, earned the Arrow of Light . Now a member of Troop 157, Andrew has served as Patrol Scribe, Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, and currently serves as a

Junior Assistant ScoutMaster . He hasn’t missed a summer camp since joining and is particularly fond of tomahawk throwing during the Indian interpretive camp . 2010 has been an especially intense year for scout activities . In June, Andrew traveled to Philmont where he and his crew mates enjoyed activities such as rock climbing, horseback riding, and spar pole climbing during their 10-day, 57 mile trek . In July, Andrew joined the South Plains Council’s contingent attending the Centennial National Scout Jamboree at Fort A .P . Hill in Virginia .

Individuals diagnosed with special needs are a particular focus for Andrew . His sister was diagnosed with autism at age 3 and when she began playing baseball in Lubbock’s Challenger League five years ago, Andrew signed up as her “buddy .” Although Abby needs little help personally, Andrew stays busy during the games assisting and interacting with other members of the team .

This heart for special needs individuals led Andrew to approach the Burkhart Center for Autism Education & Research with an idea for his Eagle Project . After meeting with the Center’s Director about several designs, Andrew led a team of fellow scouts in the construction of five carnival-style games to be used during the Burkhart Center’s Annual Walk for Autism Awareness at Jones AT&T Stadium in April . He and his team then facilitated the games during the walk which was attended by more than 1,500 people . At the conclusion of the event, the games were donated to the Burkhart Center for use during future events . Thanks to Andrew’s involvement, Troop 157 is looking to adopt the Walk for Autism Awareness as an annual service project opportunity .Andrew would like to thank his fellow scouts for making the road to Eagle a memorable one . He also thanks the leadership of Troop 157 for their guidance and encouragement .

Outside of school, Parker is a member of the United Way Youth Division . This city-wide organization for high school students meets monthly to learn about leadership, character, volunteering, and about opportunities available in Lubbock . As a part of United Way, Parker has volunteered at numerous schools, the Salvation Army, and the Parenting Cottage, as well as other organizations . Parker is a member of Westmont Christian Church, where he participates in the youth group . He plays in the youth worship band and is one of the leaders in the program . He ushers in church services when needed . Additionally, Parker is involved in the high plains area youth group, having attended church camp at Ceta Glen Christian Camp for the last 9 summers . He has also gone on several mission trips with various area groups .

Parker began his scouting career as a Cub Scout . He joined Troop 157 in 2006 . He has served as Chaplain’s Aide, Quartermaster, and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader as well as helped with music camp at summer camp . Parker has enjoyed earning merit badges, serving pancakes at Lions Club Pancake Festival, making friends, and learning life skills . He has attended camp every summer for the last 4 years with the troop at Lake Murray . His favorite camp memories are water activities, making the camp video, and eating the fantastic food .

Parker’s Eagle Scout Project was to collect books for the library at Hope Lodge Lubbock . Hope Lodge opened earlier this year and is a facility for cancer patients to stay at in Lubbock while receiving treatment . A library was built, but very few books were filling the shelves . He sent a letter to 100 people and organizations asking for book donations . He also held a book drive event at Barnes and Noble, where several hundred books were donated . He was interviewed by local news stations and received free publicity, which brought in more books . The books were sorted and delivered to Hope Lodge by several scouts led by Parker . They categorized the books and shelved them in the library . Parker’s goal was to collect 400 books from family, friends, scouts, and others . His actual total was 2,495! In Boy Scout Troop 157, Aaron has participated in the roles of patrol scribe and troop historian . Aaron was troop historian from April 2006 through April 2008 and during this time; he researched the troop history for the 50-year celebration of Boy Scout Troop 157 . At the request of Will Pylant, a close family friend, Aaron chose for his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project a project that would recognize and honor all veterans buried in the Anton Cemetery . His project involved installing galvanized steel flag holders near each veteran’s gravestone using a plat map of the cemetery to locate the graves . Aaron’s project also included restoration of the two flowerbeds surrounding the Anton Veteran’s Memorial . He supervised many volunteers in digging out the flowerbeds, clearing away overgrown grass, installing a drip irrigation system and edging, replacing the cleaned soil, covering the beds with weed block cloth, replanting the flowers and covering the entire surface of each flowerbed with red bark mulch to help retain moisture . Many Anton citizens have told his grandparents how good the memorial looks and that he did an excellent job . Roger Harrell, president of the Anton Cemetery Association especially thanked him because the installed flag holders will make his job of placing flags at veterans’ graves for patriotic holidays much easier and faster .

Aaron would like to thank all the scouts and Anton community volunteers for all of their work in helping him complete his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project . Aaron would also like to thank all of his scout leaders in Troop 157 for their inspiration, guidance, and continuing support in helping him to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout .
