can meet in a casual and relaxing way, where this can happen all year round and not only in specific dates, was missing…

At TDW we want to be out of the old schemes, we believe in collaborations
and opportunities not in competitions.
That’s why we give the opportunity to selected denim companies to showcase their product permanently at The Denim Window,
in a shared environment where the dialog is open and everyone is free to use the space as they like.
At TDW we believe in good products, good quality, in a sustainable and ethical business approach.
Through a careful selection, we try to bring the best from each country and each sector
There is a certain balance that we want to respect between number of garment makers, mills, accessories, fibers, chemicals…
as well geographic areas.

—De 1800 Roeden provides studios, business- or office spaces situated in six historic industrial buildings for creatives,
artists and creative entrepreneurs. This beautiful and green terrain is a for-
mer ammunition depot (of the Amsterdam defence line), located amidst the green fields on the West side of Amsterdam.
De 1800 Roeden and its natural surroun-dings provides an inspirational and unique
place for artists and small creative busi-ness. Often described as a hidden paradise
boosting with small little surprises around every corner or behind every door. The di-
versity of De 1800 Roeden’s sustainability, craftsmanship, art, culture and business
melts together into a creative hotspot. De 1800 Roeden was build between
1870 and 1910 with the purpose to hold ammunition and explosives for the region
Sloten. The terrain held six industrial brick buildings named A till F, which were used
until 1984. In1994 the military purpose en-ded when the spaces were given to artists
and theater groups to store their materials. Subsequently the current owners Jan van Muiden en Henk-Willem Spruit were able

to purchase the terrain with its buildings in 1996. They renovated the buildings equipped
for modern facilities as art studio’s and bu-siness units. In 1996 the building Hal A, was
listed on the Unesco list of Royal monuments as part of the Stelling van Amsterdam.
The name De 1800 Roeden is based on the distance of the terrain to the Haarlemmer
Poort, which marked the entrance of the city of Amsterdam until 1870. A waterway with a
towpath alongside, ran from Amsterdam to Haarlem since 1632. Important building along
this route were marked with the distance tothe city in Roeden. A “Roe” was an old unit
used to express length measurements. One Roe in Amsterdam equaled 3,767 meters, whi-
ch means De 1800 Roeden is located 6,780 kilometers form the Haarlemmer Poort.
Today de 1800 Roeden provides space for makers and idealists that work best staying
true to nature, themselves and each other. It is no surprise that De 1800 Roeden with
its explosive history, unique surroundings and creative entrepreneurs, has inspired so many
little businesses to create extraordinary products.

Roeden, the artistic hub where The Denim Window
is located in Amsterdam.What a better way than starting
with meeting the artists working there?
Please say hello to my neighbor —Titus Michael Brein.
—Who: Titus Michael BreinBorn in The Netherlands
the 1st October 1966Profession: Artist
—S: Titus when have you started approaching art?
—T: I’ve started at the age of 15 doing photography, my father is a painter, I come
from a family of artists.When I was 20yo I signed up for the
Academy of Fine Arts but I’ve being kicked out after 3 years because of my passion for
music, and perhaps a bit of stubbornness.
Then for 10 years I dedicated my time to music only, and just some corporate
and magazine photography.At the age of 32 I started again with
fine-art photography and adding paintings, next to photographing fashion shows in
Milan and Paris, after that I’ve started my own company.Digital photography
just came around the corner.I’ve never stop, this is still
my fulltime activity.
—S: How do you describe your work?—T: Very authentic and innovative, mixing
photography and painting, you can call it Fine Art Photography.
—S: Which subjects do you like the most?—T: I like to take my models into a surreal image, still life and landscapes and giving
them a special twist, with transparent layers and a special use of light.
Bring the unknown!—S: Since when you have the studio
at De 1800 Roeden?—T: I had a small studio 7 years ago in Hal B then 2 years ago I moved in a bigger space in
Hal A, where also The Denim Window is. I renovated the whole studio by myself.
This place is special & beautiful: I love the combination between nature, space and the
people. It gives good vibes and opportunities.
—S: Where can we see your work? —T: Galerie Kunsthuizen
in Amsterdam, Leiden and Breda, next to some international Art Fairs.
And of course, also on my website www.brein.com where you can contact me directly.
—S: What’s are your future plans?—T: To develop my work in a crazier and
unknown way, creating something that is not existing before and that’s really different.
Also in larger art pieces, like 2 x 3 meters must be great!.
—S: Which are your interests?—T: Art clearly, modern and old,
as The Ducth Masters.Other passions are interior design, traveling,
Italian cuisine and kite surfing.
—S: Do you like to wear jeans?Yes I do wear jeans often.
I’ve started wearing Levi’s, then Lois Jeans and Lee. Now I’m more into small premium labels
both Dutch and Italian. Today I’m wearing a grey denim from BSettecento.
—S: When do you wear jeans?—T: I wear them at work and in my free time,
not every day. I can be sleek at work with a good denim, a shirt and blazer.
I never throw away my jeans, I try to reuse them as much as possible and give
them a second life.I also ride horses in my jeans when
I’m in Spain or Chile during my trips.

—Indigo Amsterdam: The heart of the global denim industry
There are many famous characteristi-cs associated with Amsterdam, be it the
hundreds of thousands of bicycles in the city, its centuries-old canals, bridges and
buildings, or even its renowned liberal attitudes. But there’s another major cha-
racteristic that may yet surprise many: Am-sterdam has the highest concentration of
jeans brands in the world. Figures actually show that Amsterdam’s inhabitants own
and wear more jeans than those of any other city, and that they’re willing to spend
more money on them, too. Bold beginnings
It all began in the 1990s when Pepe Jeans moved its headquarters from Lon-
don to Amsterdam and Dutch brand G-Star conquered the international market. It
wasn’t long before these two brands were the front runners in the denim industry. In
time, some of their most talented employe-es started their own denim labels, like the eco-conscious K.O.I. and Blue Blood. Now Tommy Hilfiger and Levi’s Vintage Clothes
reside here too, as well as exciting Dutch
brands such as Amsterdams Blauw – the de-dicated jeans label of Scotch & Soda.
As one of the founding fathers of Blue Blo-od, the appropriately named Jason Denham
was a pioneer of high-end jeans. The Brit moved to the city 18 years ago while working
for Pepe Jeans and immediately spotted its potential. From Blue Blood, he went on to
launch his own creative label, Denham the Jeanmaker. “

and the United States. The city has made a name for itself as a young, forward-thinking
denim capital. Its ties to denim have often been attributed to the Dutch casual style of
dressing and the nation’s love for wearing jeans. While this may have been the catalyst,
the city has known how to turn itself into a hotspot for denim brands and experts. There’s the Jean School, the world’s only denim scho-
ol; the annual Denim Days festival; the Kin-gpins trade show; and a whole fleet of denim
labels. G-Star Raw, Denham, Scotch & Soda and Kings of Indigo are some of the exciting brands born and bred here over the past few

—Silvia is a denim specialist with 15+ years of experience in design
and product development. Specialised in denim fabrics and
treatments but with a passion for innovation and fashion.
Silvia, originally Italian, has worked for brands such as Diesel, Tommy Hilfiger
and multiple garment makers and fabric mills creating strong international
relationships whilst living and working in China, Pakistan, Mauritius, Hong
Kong, Italy and Amsterdam During this time, she has gained
experience within a brand, as a maker, in a mill and as a consultant, gaining
expertise in products, treatments and technologies. Now she brings all this
together at The Window Amsterdam—
