Integral University, LucknowIntegral University, a seat of educational excellence, is a premier university in Lucknow, the Capital of Uttar Pradesh, India. The university had been established under the Act number 9 of 2004 by the U. P. State Government. It is rather historic that, within a span of six years the Institute of Integral Technology on account of its educational excellence, credibility and value based education in a highly disciplined and decorous environment was recognized as a noted seat of learning all across the country and thus was granted a University status in 2004.

Integral University which is well known for its Higher Education and is located at Kursi Road is source of pride and pleasure, not only for me but all those who are well wishers of our Society and Nation.

The Foundation stone of this University was laid in the year 1993 by our country's great educator, leader, philosopher of Islam, Hazrat Maulana Syed Abul Hasan Ali Hasani Nadvi (R.A.) and in a short duration it established its educational credentials among the best universities. Today this outstanding University is undoubtedly an enviable asset of the country. By according the status of minority institution, the government has paid due regard to Muslim community and has encouraged youth irrespective of their religious affiliations to pursue quality education.

Recently the University has taken another major step forward by deciding to establish a Medical college for which sanction from the State Government has already been accorded and Insha Allah the approval of the Central Government shall also be granted soon. The fully functional hospital established on campus is already a big success. The remaining educational requirements for the Medical College are being consistently pursued.

Information Technology / Computer Science

Microtek College of Management & Technology | Page 25

We use the term information technology or IT to refer to an entire

industry. In actuality, information technology is the use of computers

and software to manage information. In some companies, this is

referred to as Management Information Services (or MIS) or simply as

Information Services (or IS). The information technology department

of a large company would be responsible for storing information,

protecting information, processing the information, transmitting the

information as necessary, and later retrieving information as

necessary.

IT is the area of managing technology and spans wide variety of areas

that include but are not limited to things such as processes, computer

software, information systems, computer hardware, programming

languages, and data constructs. In short, anything that renders data,

information or perceived knowledge in any visual format whatsoever,

via any multimedia distribution mechanism, is considered part of the

domain space known as Information Technology (IT).

IT professionals perform a var iety of funct ions ( IT

Disciplines/Competencies) that range from installing applications to

designing complex computer networks and information databases. A

few of the duties that IT professionals perform may include data

management, networking, engineering computer hardware, database

and software design, as well as management and administration of

entire systems. Information technology is starting to spread further

than the conventional personal computer and network technology,

and more into

integrations of

o t h e r

technologies such

as the use of cell

p h o n e s ,

t e l e v i s i o n s ,

automobiles, and

more, which is

increasing the

demand for such

jobs.

The world has witnessed extraordinary advances in science over the last few decades. Biotechnology - one such area of growth - is a term covering a broad range of scientific activities used in many sectors, such as food, health and agriculture. It involves the use of living organisms or parts of living organisms to provide new methods of production and the making of new products.

Biotechnology (also commonly referred to as the life sciences, genetic modification or engineering and genomics) is presenting us with new knowledge, products and methods such as:

Biotechnology is defined as a set of techniques for industrial exploitation of biological systems of processes. It encompasses any technique that uses living organisms to make or modify products, to improve plants or animal or to develop microorganisms for specific uses and involves applying molecular and cellular biology, plant, animal and human genetics and immunology in order to create new products . Conventional techniques of products, using traditional microbiological fermentation, have evolved, with the development of modern technologies. Modern biotechnology entails use of cell fusion techniques, bio-informatics (use of information technology for documenting bio diversity and study DNA structures), genetic engineering, structure based molecular design and recombinant DNA \technology (insertion of foreign gene) and hybridoma technology (fusing and multiplying cells). Biotechnology has transformed many parts of the chemical industry, agriculture, and medicine.

India, today, holds a small share of the global biotech market, but has all the capabilities to become a dominant player. The consumption of biotech products in India is expected to quadruple in the next decade. The human and animal segment of the industry alone is growing by at least 20%. This sector grew to $ 1 billion in 1999 and is expected to grow $ 4.5 billion by 2110.

India has a rich human capital, which is the strongest asset for this knowledge – based industry. India has proved its competency in selected areas of bio process engineering, skills in gene manipulation of microbes and animal cells, capacity in downstream processing and isolation methods, and its competence in recombinant DNA technology of plants and animals. The inherent strengths of nation combined with rising public interest in this sector, growing investment by traditional business houses, tax incentives and the significant foreign investment available, poises Indian biotechnology sector to emerge as a significant force on the global biotech map. A career in biotechnology field hence shall be highly successful and rewarding.
