YOUR CHURCH
FROM: The Finance Committee of Christ Church Cathedral
"The Cathedral needs some $15,000.00 weekly to remain solvent and to con-
tribute its share to the overall Diocese. We are receiving an income from
envelopes, open collection and other gifts totaling just under $13,000.00
weekly and it is simply not enough to cover all expenses and obliga-
tions. Your tithes and offerings are of critical importance to the operation
of the Cathedral and the Anglican Diocese as a whole.
The Cathedral needs your help! By consistently making your weekly contri-
bution, it will help the Cathedral plan its expenses and cash flow better, so
we encourage all members to be faithful in your financial support. Of
course, whenever you can increase your level of contribution it will help to
close the funding gap and offset any shortfalls from week to week. We look
forward to your continued support."

The Collects:
Sixth Sunday After Pentecost: Almighty God, you have built your Church
upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the
chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their
teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus
Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,
for ever and ever. Amen.
Prayer for the Ministry of Intentional Discipleship: Heavenly Father , we
thank you that you have awakened your church to hear again the call of our
Saviour Jesus Christ to come to him and learn from him. Grant that as we say
‘yes’ to his call to discipleship, your Holy Spirit will enable us so completely to
commit all the areas of our lives to his service, that in our personal, family and
church lives, our work, recreational and social lives, we would act as Jesus
would have acted if he were in our place; in his name for his sake we pray.
Amen.
THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD
The First Lesson
Reader: A Reading from the Word of God written in Wisdom 1:13-15, 2:23-24
God did not make death, And he does not delight in the death of the living. For
he created all things so that they might exist; the generative forces of the world
are wholesome, and there is no destructive poison in them, and the dominion of
Hades is not on earth. For righteousness is immortal. God created us for incor-
ruption, and made us in the image of his own eternity, but through the devil’s
envy death entered the world, and those who belong to his company experience
it.
Reader: The Word of the Lord
Response: Thanks be to God
Psalm 130 (7:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.)
1 Out of the depths have I called to you, O LORD; LORD, hear my
voice; *let your ears consider well the voice of my supplication.
2 If you, LORD, were to note what is done amiss, *O Lord, who could
stand?

3 For there is forgiveness with you; *therefore you shall be feared.
4 I wait for the LORD; my soul waits for him; *in his word is my hope.
5 My soul waits for the LORD, more than watchmen for the morning,
*more than watchmen for the morning.
6 O Israel, wait for the LORD, *for with the LORD there is mercy;
7 With him there is plenteous redemption, *and he shall redeem Israel
from all their sins.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning is now; and shall be forever, Amen.
Psalm 130: “Out Of The Depths I Call To You” - Tune Rockingham (9:00 a.m. only)
The Epistle
Reader: A reading from the Word of God written in 2 Corinthians 8:7-15
As you excel in everything-- in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in utmost eagerness,
and in our love for you-- so we want you to excel also in this generous undertaking.
I do not say this as a command, but I am testing the genuineness of your love
against the earnestness of others. For you know the generous act of our Lord Jesus
Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his
poverty you might become rich. And in this matter I am giving my advice: it is
appropriate for you who began last year not only to do something but even to desire
to do something-- now finish doing it, so that your eagerness may be matched by
completing it according to your means. For if the eagerness is there, the gift is ac-
ceptable according to what one has-- not according to what one does not have. I do
not mean that there should be relief for others and pressure on you, but it is a ques-
tion of a fair balance between your present abundance and their need, so that their
abundance may be for your need, in order that there may be a fair balance. As it is
written, “The one who had much did not have too much, and the one who had little
did not have too little.”
Reader: The Word of the Lord
Response: Thanks be to God
Out of the depths I call to you.
Lord, hear my voice and heed my prayer;
Look with compassion on my plea,
Weigh my petition, Lord, with care.
For if you note each sinful deed,
Lord, who could stand when you appeared?
But with you is forgiveness found
More certainly than watchmen wait
To see the daylight first appear
Does my soul wait upon the Lord;
I wait in trust and holy fear.
O Israel, wait upon the Lord;
Mercy is always found in him,
And freedom, too, abounds in God

Gradual Hymn: 518 - Hark, My Soul! It Is The Lord
The Gospel
Reader: The Lord be with you
Response: And also with you
Reader: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark 5:21-43
Response: Glory to Christ our Saviour
When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gath-
ered around him; and he was by the sea. Then one of the leaders of the syna-
gogue named Jairus came and, when he saw him, fell at his feet and begged him
repeatedly, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your
hands on her, so that she may be made well, and live.” So he went with him.
And a large crowd followed him and pressed in on him. Now there was a wom-
an who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years. She had endured
much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had; and she was no
better, but rather grew worse. She had heard about Jesus, and came up behind
him in the crowd and touched his cloak, for she said, “If I but touch his clothes,
I will be made well.” Immediately her hemorrhage stopped; and she felt in her
body that she was healed of her disease. Immediately aware that power had
gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched
my clothes?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing in on
you; how can you say, ‘Who touched me?’” He looked all around to see who
had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear
and trembling, fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. He said to
her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of
your disease.” While he was still speaking, some people came from the leader’s
house to say, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?”
But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the leader of the synagogue, “Do
not fear, only believe.” He allowed no one to follow him except Peter, James,
and John, the brother of James. When they came to the house of the leader of
the synagogue, he saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. When
he had entered, he said to them, “Why do you make a commotion and weep?
The child is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. Then he put them
all outside, and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with
him, and went in where the child was. He took her by the hand and said to her,
“Talitha cum,” which means, “Little girl, get up!” And immediately the girl got
up and began to walk about (she was twelve years of age). At this they were
overcome with amazement. He strictly ordered them that no one should know
this, and told them to give her something to eat.

FORGIVENESS IS CHRISTIANITY IN ACTION
Have you been hurt? Has somebody, somewhere in your past, rejected you or
betrayed you that you still hurt deep inside you? Whatever your situation is,
whatever your past is, remember that you are the eventual loser if you do not
forgive. Someone who decides not to forgive will never be liberated. He will
never receive the Father’s forgiveness we all have in Christ. Our Lord Jesus
Himself said: “If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father
will forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father for-
give your transgressions.”
Forgiveness liberates us and sets us free to enjoy the blessings that come with
life. Forgiveness does not mean what the offender did was right. It simply
means that we are willing to forgive and allow God to contend with those who
contend with us. What God is asking from us is to forgive because He has for-
given us. He wants us to give Him the discretion of dealing with those who have
offended us. God is the final judge of mankind and He will make sure justice is
complete.
We should realize that when we decide not to forgive, we get the shorter end of
the deal as we are the ones who suffer. Unforgiveness holds us back from enjoy-
ing God’s blessings. It can develop into bitterness, anger, frustration, and de-
pression. When we nurture an unforgiving spirit in our hearts, we quickly be-
come consumed by it that we slowly drift away from God. We begin to focus on
our hurt and in time become spiritually blind that all we see is ourselves. We
fail to grasp the immensity of God’s forgiveness and His love for us. It becomes
a bondage which stifles our ability to love and accept those whom we know in
our hearts most deserve our love. It is a bondage that chokes out the grace, the
joy and the peace God has so generously poured into our lives through our Lord
Jesus Christ.
