WELCOME

Pastor Greg & Tamara Dumas Lead Pastor

Dear Crossing Friends and Family,

Happy Labor Day weekend! Thank you for taking the time to visit The Crossing Church. We know that if you decided to attend on a Sunday, it can be a challenge to brave the traffic, and sometimes mud, to drop the kids off in time just to find a seat. I agree it requires a little patience; however, I hope you see that you have found a place where there are people who truly care about you. We love people at The Crossing Church, and Tamara and I pray God’s blessing on you and your family this holiday weekend.

Your Pastor,Greg and Tamara Dumas, Lead Pastor

LIFEGROUPS

Use the following as a resource for your LifeGroup to go deeper with this week’s

message. We hope this helps you as you “do life together”.

Opener:

1. Introduce yourself again. There is only one rule – you cannot introduce yourself

using anything that defines a role you have – or what you do. Rather, you must

introduce yourself using only words that describe who you are – the inside of you.

Digging Deeper :

2. We typically identify ourselves by what we do. It is no surprise then that we inwardly

think about ourselves in terms of what we’ve done as opposed to who we are

becoming. Take a moment to make an inventory of some of your past that still

generates your personal definition of you. Some of these thoughts may range from

painful, to practical, to humorous. After you make the inventory – go ahead and

share how your past still defines you.

As Pastor Todd Bolt noted this weekend – the story of Mephibosheth gives hope

to how our histories can be rewritten by a redeemer. Read 2 Samuel, Chapter 9.

Enjoy the story. Now read 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. Pay particular attention to verse 11

and the verbs therein. Practically and spiritually, what does it mean to be washed,

sanctified, justified? Discuss this final idea – “You are not what you were or have

done, but you are who Jesus has made you.” The key is that this is something you

are becoming AND something you already are – look at the verbs in verse 11 again!

Application:

3. Remembering who we ARE in Jesus replaces the lies of who we have been. Take

time for each of you to individually share which of these thoughts and verses

means the most to you at this point in your life:

• I am accepted: John 15:15

• I am secure: Romans 8:31-39

• I am significant: John 15:16

• I am a saint: I Cor. 1:2

• I am God’s creation: Eph. 2:10

• I am an heir: Romans 8:17
