Proposed layout of new A46
junction by WCC
A junction proposal has been designed using forecast construction traffic for HS2.
This proposal would not require rebuilding/maintaining Ashow Road or junction
improvements with A452 for mass haul, it removes the necessity for temporary signalisation of A46 and the requirement for a
new direct link to A46. There are potentially significant safety and community benefits in this
option.
This proposal would include use of land outside
the Act that will require additional consultation and planning permission.

Overall solution
This solution can meet stakeholder
aspirations, improve constructability,
reduce costs and leave a community
improvement as a legacy.
The costs and risk still need final
assessed to support an investment
paper to gain approval. Highways
England have also requested further
work on the traffic modelling used
to date. Timing is a key risk
