FEBRUARY 2017
Join us on February 5, 2017 at 3pm here at Community Church for a special musical concert from the Gospel group, UNDIVIDED. Since the summer of 1987, UNDIVIDED has answered the call of God upon their lives by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ through music. Their musical style ranges from New Southern Gospel to Inspirational Praise & Worship. Their mission is to help people realize the fundamental truth that relationships with family, friends and Jesus Christ are the most important foundations of life.
The concert is free and open to the public. A love offering will be taken. Please be in prayer about this wonderful event, invite your family, friends and neighbors for a great time.

The Etch-a-Sketch® Life by Scooter Ward
When I was growing up, my parents bought me a little toy called an Etch-a-Sketch®. At first it was a fun toy. I could draw boxes and other shapes with it. Whenever I wanted to sketch something new, I just shook it up and down rapidly, and whatever I had drawn was erased by the “magic sand” inside. It was a great cure for boredom,
especially while waiting for my mother to get her hair done. However, the novelty of this toy soon wore off, and it found its place next to all the other discarded toys—in a garage sale. The Etch-a-Sketch is now long gone, occupying the countless hours of another kid’s free time, but the memory of it will always linger in my mind. Now, I have a new view of the Etch-a-Sketch® concept, in light of Scripture. Our lives as Christians are very similar to an Etch-a-Sketch®. We doodle around and draw our little plans about life. We may think that our patterns and ideas are perfect. We think we have figured out God’s plan for us and what we will do for Him. Usually, that is when He comes in, takes up our Etch-a-Sketch®, shakes it and erases everything we have drawn. Harsh you say? Well many times we look at the design rather than the Designer. Sometimes, that is what it takes to “walk by faith, not sight” (2 Cor.5:7). God must bring us to a point to where we totally look to Him. So the next time God shakes up your Etch-a-Sketch® rejoice and remember—God is in charge of your situation, and you can rest in His faithful love and care. “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that
prevails.” (Prov.19:21, NIV).
MUSIC MINISTRY
“A Tempo” is a musical term instructing the musician to return to the original tempo or beat. I think this certainly applies to our lives as Christians. Sometimes we get out of sync with God’s redemptive rhythm for our lives. Each day provides an opportunity for us to return to walk in tempo with Him. ...Scooter Ward

GATLINBURG OUTREACH Gatlinburg was pretty amazing on a couple of notes. Hayleigh (Tina's daughter) and Summer (my daughter) were able to accompany us on the trip. We delivered 49 overflowing backpacks full of toys, crafts and school supplies, stuffed animals, etc., plus a large box and two large bags of brand new clothing with the tags on. The Girl Scout Leader for the Gatlinburg troop was simply in awe at what all we had collected and ensured us that everything down to the last pencil had a destination. He mentioned that many of the children there had made it through emotionally, mostly because it had been the holidays, school was out and family was near. However, he said that with school being back in session and things getting back to normal, the reality was setting in with many of them that things were no longer "normal". So he said that he felt the delivery would help let them know that even though the holidays had passed that there were still people out there looking out for them and sending up their prayers. We exchanged addresses with Troops there and plan to pen pal with them. Thank you to all involved in this effort. ...Dawn House, Girl Scout Council
OUTREACH EFFORTS Patty Bridges, Deacon of Outreach, [email protected]
The new year brought several new members and new music to Community Ukes. We now have about 20 ukulele musicians with a wide range of skills and experience. The new music is fun and retro. Our next concert will be at Brookdale and they are looking forward to it. Community Ukes meet upstairs at the church at 10am on Thursdays. If you want to participate or just learn more, please join us.

ACTIVITIES UPDATE We are all excited about going bowling and having lunch afterward at Uncle Buck's in Destin Commons on Friday, January 27th. I can only anticipate at this time (early newsletter input) that we will have/had a wonder-ful time bowling, watching others bowl, laughing with each other, enjoying great "on-lane" fellowship, as well as a great meal afterward in our private room. A short meeting will be/was included. The men and women who at-tended all rode together in the church bus which is always a real joy. We have a movie scheduled for Thursday, March 30th for everyone (men & women) with dinner before-hand. There will be an Evite out as we get closer to that time. February's monthly activity will be/was briefly dis-cussed during our January bowling & lunch event and will be announced first through the church bulletin in early February. …Jan
English as a Second Language Ministry
Dot Taylor, Director ESL
ESL continues to grow with new students every week. Our challenges are the inconsistency of attendance, conflicts with job requirements and the students are very busy with their lives.
Our ESL students are busy working in our community. They work in restaurants, hotels, resorts, construction and as painters. They are arriving to class attired in their work clothes, some with the paint still wet! We ap-preciate their commitment and welcome them, paint and all.
If there is one thing we see all the time is much thankfulness that the class is given here at Community Church. Our students continue to invite their friends and family. About 90% of our students live in Santa Rosa Beach.
This month we want to recognize Patty Bridges and David Finney, our new Deacons who also teach in two of the ESL classes. Their contribution and support of the ESL mission is greatly appreciated.
Please keep our ESL ministry in your prayers. ...Dot Taylor, Director ESL Ministry
SUNDAY CHILDCARE (AGES 6 & UNDER): Our nursery is now staffed by volunteers on Sunday mornings on an as-needed basis. If you’d like to help out, please contact the church office or email Mike McIntyre at [email protected]
