LET’S CELEBRATE AND REJOICE WITH KALEO, JULY 16TH, 5PM

We have been blessed this summer with the presence of the KALEO college ministry. They have added a lot of energy to our church during the down months of summer. Many of you have made a great effort to get to know them. It is great that we have the opportunity to support this vital ministry of spiritual growth in their lives, as well as the lives they touch through sharing the Gospel message in our area.

Join us at on Sunday, July 16th at 5pm, we will be having a special evening of fellowship and rejoicing as we celebrate the work God has done in and through their lives. We will start with a fellowship meal of hamburgers and hot dogs. Afterwards, we will move into the sanctuary for a time of worship with music, personal testimonies and prayer. They depart back to their respective colleges for continued ministry and outreach the last week of July. Please pray for us as we prepare for this wonderful time together and that God would be glorified in it!

Instead of our regular Pot Luck dinner, we will meet at 5 pm for a hot dog and hamburger cookout in the parking lot and then move into the sanctuary for a time of worship and rejoicing in the KALEO ministry.

If you can help with this special evening i.e. bring a grill, cook hot dogs and hamburgers, help set up clean up and serve etc., please contact Pastor Scooter.

You will not want to miss this special event and special time of fellowship and worship.

Every woman is invited to come and be a part of this dynamic group. You will be welcomed and given an opportunity to get to know your fellow church ladies. Our focus is on service to our community through our mission work and enjoying getting together for shared good times. For more information about the CCW, please contact Jan Rundquist, Doris Tharpe, Mary Reeder or email Gerry Rector at [email protected]

Our last CCW activity of the season was a total success. A full church bus and more, thirty three took part. We all ate together at AJ's on the Harbor, then sailed into the beautiful sunset. The weather cooperated wonderfully. The Captain said we saw one of the best sunsets he's ever seen on our way back to port. ***As for all of our activities, a computer Evite will be sent out each month to let you know all the details about each upcoming activity, asking you to respond. In addition, there will always be a manual sign-up sheet in the food/reception area (across from the Admin office) on Sunday mornings. Jan

The Community Ukes will continue to meet on Thursdays on July 6th at 10am for lessons and practice throughout the summer. All levels of expertise are welcome. Community Ukes is open to anyone interested in learning to play or experienced musicians. It’s not too late to find a ukulele and join us. We practice at 10am on Thursdays and we have beginners and more skilled players.

We will be performing at The Ageless Beauty Contest on July 11th @ 9am, in the sanctuary. See Pastor Scooter for more details.

COMMUNITY UKES

Women of SRBCC

Have you ever wanted a place to relax, enjoy fellowship with like-minded women, listen to interesting guest

speakers, join in on worth-while local missions, make new friends and enjoy outings? In September, our CCW will

kick off their fall program. Our goal is to have all women who attend church be a part of CCW. Get to know your

“sisters” in Christ and be an active participant in our church. So….Keep us in mind for September.

Don’t Be a Lightning Bug Christian

One of my favorite summertime activities as boy in Florida was to catch lightning bugs in my

backyard. Many evenings after supper, my dad and I would grab our hats and go outside (our hats

served as bug nets). We would laugh and chase those bugs all over the yard. It was a challenge to

capture the little guys because you could not see them but for a moment when they lit up. They

would dissolve into the dark night in an instant. I would never know where they would pop up.

Every now and then I would get lucky and catch one.

I believe God put the lightning bugs in life to illustrate how Christians look to the world when we

fail to be lights for Christ in our words and in our walk. The world in which we live is in a state of

twenty-four-hour, spiritual darkness. It is to this dark world God calls us to be children of light.

Our lights must shine bright and let the whole world know where we stand and with Whom we

stand. We ought not to be like the lightning bug that lights up momentarily and only to disappear in

an instant.

Jesus is the Light of the world (Jn.8:12). He fulfilled God’s plan by not only becoming the Light,

but also by becoming the Way. Now, Jesus has passed the responsibility of sharing the light of

God’s truth to us—the Church (Matt.5:14). We can fulfill this task by the witness in our life. As we

allow the Holy Spirit to illuminate our heart and life, God uses us to light the way of life—Jesus

Christ—in the midst of a dark and dying world. I encourage you to rekindle the Light in your life by

resolving to continue to grow in the knowledge of His Word, obedience to His will and walking with

Him every day of your life until He calls you home. His light will shine through you and your life

will make a difference.

“Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in

heaven.”(Matt.5:16, NASB)

MUSIC MINISTRY

“A Tempo” is a musical term instructing the musician to return to the

original tempo or beat. I think this certainly applies to our lives as

Christians. Sometimes we get out of sync with God’s redemptive rhythm

for our lives. Each day provides an opportunity for us to return to walk in

tempo with Him. ...Scooter Ward

NEW GRIEF SUPPORT MINISTRY “LIVING THROUGH LOSS”

A new grief support ministry is beginning at our church – LIVING THROUGH LOSS. All of us

need guidance through the process of grief. Grief assaults us emotionally, mentally, spiritually and socially. We can’t stuff grief inside, or pretend it doesn’t exist; it is real and persistent. While it may be hard to believe that experiencing and sharing the painful feelings can be healing, survivors confirm that with the right tools they heal in time. The goal is to come through the tunnel with renewed purpose and increased faith.

The mission of LIVING THROUGH LOSS would be to provide comfort during loss where participants learn coping skills and develop a sense of hope and promise based in spiritual, emotional and mental health.

We hope to provide a safe sanctuary of confidential support, platform of spiritual growth and offer education and information. This is designed to be a gathering place to meet and make friends and create a powerful presence of Christian love and support.

Facilitators will be CC Veazay Whittinghill, Robin Tharpe, Mary Reeder and Gerry Rector.

Sessions will begin July 11th at 11am and will extend for 6 weeks. If you are interested, please contact one of the facilitators or one of the Pastors.

CONGREGATIONAL CARE

The Congregational Care committee met this past month and reworked the congregational care groups. You should be hearing from your new Congregational Care person soon. Please let them know of any needs you might have that your church family can help with.

STEPHEN MINISTRY

Our church has been active in Stephen Ministry in the past and we want to see if there is interest in reactivating our Stephen Ministry program. Stephen Ministry is a national program that trains those who feel a calling to walk beside those who are going through tough times in their lives. This might be the loss of loved one, divorce, loss of a job, etc. Stephen ministers would come along side these folks in a one-on-one, confidential situation to listen and be supportive in these troubling times.

Stephen Ministers go through a rigorous 50 hour training course to prepare them for this special calling. Once assigned, they meet regularly with the person they are walking with as well as with fellow Stephen Ministers for confidential supervision and support. Those who have been trained as Stephen Ministers in our church have helped numerous people get through tough times.

Stephen Ministry is a big commitment of time for training, as well as meeting the person you would be helping and supervising meetings. We would ask for a two year commitment to the ministry once you have finished training.

Pastor Pete is a trained Stephen Minister Trainer and would lead the training, if there are enough people interested in become a Stephen Minister.

If you are interested in becoming a Stephen Minister or just want more information, please contact Pastor Pete. If you are a trained Stephen Minister and would like to get active again, please let Pastor Pete know.
