FAST AND ABSTINENCE DURING LENT
Abstinence -- Catholics over 14 years of age are
bound to the obligation of abstinence. Absti-
nence is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and
on all Fridays of Lent. On days of abstinence,
meat may not be used at all.
Fast -- Catholics over 18 and up to the beginning
of their 60th year are bound to the obligation of
fasting. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are
the days of fasting. On these days, only one full
meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, suffi-
cient to maintain strength, may be taken accord-
ing to each one’s needs, but together they should
not equal another full meal. Eating between
meals is not permitted, but liquids, including
milk and fruit juices are allowed
Prayers for the Military
We are indebted to those who are currently serv-
ing our nation and have served in the past to se-
cure and safeguard our freedom. As a collabora-
tive, many men and woman have been prayed
for and their photos have been display in St
Ann's Church to the right of the altar. In the
coming weeks we will be clearing off this side
altar. If you have a connection to the pictures,
please let us know their names so we
can continue to honor these men and women
properly and do not discard the photographs.
Why We Sacrifice
Ever since you were little, you've probably given
something up for Lent. Or tried. But why would Jesus
care whether or not you eat chocolate? What do we
mean when we talk about sacrifice and why does it
matter? Join the St. Mark/St. Ambrose Youth Group
on Sunday, March 31st, for a Youth Mass at 5pm in
the St. Mark's Chapel and a special Lent Youth Group
6-8pm.

Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa
The Propagation of the Faith Appeal is this week-
end and this year we have the opportunity to sup-
port the work of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters
for Africa. They began in 1903 in Uganda when
Mother Kevin and 5 companions took the risk to
leave country, family and friends and accepted the
invitation to the unknown – the beginning of a mis-
sionary venture that spanned oceans and cultures,
binding peoples of Asia, Europe, North America
and Goa in the great adventure of living the Gos-
pel. Inspired by her spirit and leadership schools,
hospitals, clinics and training institutes were estab-
lished in Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan, Ethiopia,
Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. With her Sis-
ters, she pioneered the education of African women
as Religious Sisters, Nurses, Midwives and Teach-
ers. Sister Mary Fisher, who will be visiting our
parish is a member of this Congregation. After 41
years of ministry in Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya and
South Africa, Sister Mary was asked to return to the
States to help raise funds for the Congregation. For
31 years, Sister Mary was involved in a spiritual
ministry offering courses on prayer, discernment
spiritual growth as well as being available for a
ministry in offering retreats and spiritual direction.
