THE CHURCH VOICE
from me to you…………
Dear friends in Christ, Last month I tried to do a first-person sermon where I was Peter preaching in Jerusalem. The sermon was entitled “Repent and Turn to God.” That was the challenge from Peter as he declared the healing power of the name of Jesus Christ. Nearly 2,000 years later we Christians are still being called to “Repent”, to turn from our sins and accept God’s free offer of forgiveness. Do you remember the first time you decided to accept Christ’s invitation to be active in the Church? I never had a “Damascus Road” experience like the Apostle Paul. In fact, I have never known a time when the Presbyterian Church has not been my faith home. I can share about those who influenced me to study to be a pastor but I never had a dramatic conversion experience. Still I need to confess my sins and lean on God’s Amazing Grace. I repent daily, ever thankful that Christ has died for my sins— once for all. Please join me in this exercise of remembering God is the Creator and we are the creatures. During May you are encouraged to share your recommendations for Elders and Deacons with this year’s Nominating Committee. You will find a form in this Newsletter and the Response Box is on the table in the Narthex. Continue to pray for all of our Church Officers and help us find the best to serve us in the future. We celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May. We will share the Lord’s Supper on Pentecost, May 20. And the last Sunday will be part of the Memorial Day Weekend so our 8:30 Worship will be at the Driftwood Access on OIB. Looking forward to worshiping with you in May!

I would like to thank the young people in our church who have
acted as an acolyte during our Sunday worship since
September. These children are:
Also, a big thank you goes to the parents of these children for
seeing that they are there on that Sunday. May is the last
month of this until summer break is over and September is
here. I hope that most of these kids will want to be an acolyte
again in the fall and maybe we will also have some new names
to add to the list.
Thanks again and have a great summer!

What is the purpose of the Memorial Wall?
The cast bronze name on the Memorial Wall are placed by church members or by
their loved ones to memorialize their relationship with the church, its congregation,
and its community. Someone may choose the Memorial Wall if he or she has other
burial or cremation plans, has a cemetery plot elsewhere, or has not yet made a
specific plan after death. If you have questions about the Memorial Wall or any
other part of the Columbarium, please call the church office or Betsy Braddock.
Niches are available for one or two sets of cremated remains.
Memorial Wall plaques can be reserved in honor of or in memory of someone.
*For the specific details on eligibility, see a committee member. Questions? Call
Betsy!

My mother turns 90 years old in a few months. She continues to live by herself and manage fine with the
family checking in from time to time. Recently, however, her doctor of many years announced he is
relocating his practice, and my mother must find a new doctor. The family made inquiries and scheduled
an “interview appointment” with a potential candidate.
The new doctor passed the test. She not only listened attentively to my mother’s concerns about aging,
but also surprised my mother by saying she makes house calls when circumstances require. The new
doctor definitely passed the test!
The experience underscores the critical importance of health providers’ willingness to listen. Especially
in the work of counseling, the key ingredient is listening to clients. But few people actually have the
experience of truly being heard anywhere. In the midst of a session, a seemingly simple question can
result in tears of sudden, new understanding that bring welcome relief. The individual senses being heard.
