Alice in Techland! Para Agrawal, Kate Lapa, Yasemin Swanson Reedtech Technology can be fun! You will be introduced to the advantages of working in the technology field and how you can get started! Session 3 or 4 in FH 102 Para is an expert in web applications and end-‐to-‐end product development programming. Kate is experienced in QA testing of software, web development and 3-‐D printing. Yasemin is a technology project manager.
Adventures in an R&D Lab—Strawberry DNA Extraction Kimberlin, Keller, Rebecca Hawkins, Lori Westover, Elizabeth Hammonds Johnson & Johnson. Join a group of scientists and engineers from a local pharmaceutical company in a simulated research & development lab as we study DNA through a hands-‐on extraction of Strawberry DNA. Sessions 1, 2 or 4 in MH 211 The presenters are scientists and engineers.
All the Colors of the Sun—A STEAM Approach to Fiber Design Cassandra Gunkel, PhD Bucks County Community College Artists often create a palate of colors before beginning a project. Sunlight is the source for all colors. In this workshop, you will explore sunlight scientifically & artistically, problem solve, & create solutions. The outcome…transform a silk scarf using your own color solutions. Session 1, 2 or 4 in Hort Bldg 201 Cassandra has been a PA Council on the Arts Teaching Artist for 20 years. She is the coordinator of the BCCC Artmobile.
Build an Arduino Prototype and Light It Up with a Smile! Suzanne Hanbicki, Kathy Kelly Downingtown Area School District You will learn how a basic electrical circuit works & will build a prototype circuit using an Arduino microprocessor and a light grid. You will then program the Arduino. You will also upload your own 8-‐bit art to the light grid & animate your work. Session 1 or 2 in FH 103 Suzanne teaches business & computer science courses.
Careers in Science and Engineering at DuPont Julie Rakestraw, PhD DuPont A degree in Science or Engineering opens the door to a wide variety of career paths. The skills you learn in school will allow you to define and solve diverse problems. We will discuss the the possibilities. Session 1 or 2 held in FH 202 Julie s a chemical engineer who studied at MIT. She has a broad experience in research and management in polymers and biotechnology. Her current assignment integrates her interests in business, technology and legal issues.
Control Systems—The Secret Science behind UAVs Meagan Kuchan, Jingoli Power PPL Electric Utilities UAVs are all the rage today. What makes them so special? This seminar aims to provide a brief introduction behind the control and auto-‐pilot systems enabling UAV technology to soar into everyday life. Session 1 or 2 in Allman 101 Meagan is the Project Manager of the UAV and transmission line research programs. She is an Air Force veteran and studied electrical engineering at the Air Force Academy.
Discover the Future of Healthcare—Your Ideas Are our Future! Diane Humbrecht, RN, Deborah Murphy, RN, Nichole Humbrecht Abington Jefferson Health This workshop will evaluate technologies that are changing the face of healthcare and how nontraditional healthcare internship supports healthcare. Session 1, 2 or 3 in LSB 200 Diane is Chief Nursing Informatics Officer. Deborah is a Clinical Nurse Specialist. She has been instrumental in the team becoming a comprehensive stroke center through the use of technology. Nichole is a engineering student at Temple University and recently completed an internship at Abington.
Economics: The College Major of CEOs! Amy Strouse Avascent Did you know that those with undergraduate degrees in economics are more likely to become CEOs than any other major? If you love math and want to learn about a career in business, international development, policy, or being an entrepreneur, this workshop will introduce you to what you need to do for this challenging field of study. Session 1 or 2 in Allman 102 Avascent is a management consulting firm serving companies in government-‐driven industries. Amy’s degrees in economics underpin all of her roles.
Engineering & Entrepreneurship: How this unlikely pair will inspire the next generation of girls! Gabrielle Rochino, Megan DeGeorge, Alexis Basantis Rowan University “Think Like a Girl: Engineering Kits” is a startup with the mission to empower girls. Learn about the founders’ experiences, accomplishments, upcoming events, and how you can change the face of engineering and STEM! Session 1 or 2 in LSB 105 Gabrielle is a mechanical engineering major at Rowan University and the CEO/Co-‐Founder of Think Like a Girl: Engineering Kits.
Flight Nursing and Paramedicine Suzanne Lang, Genevieve Achey MidAtlantic MedEvac Helicopter based nurses and paramedics work transporting critically ill trauma and intensive care patients in an emergent environment. Learn about the job and the requirements needed to perform in an Air Medical Career. The best job in the world! Session 2 or 3 in FH 114 Suzanne has worked as a nurse for 16 years, 13 of which she has been flying. Genevieve worked in EMS for 17 years. She’s been flying for one year.
Girly Aquaponics Heidi Tucker Chester Community Charter School Join Heidi to learn the reason why you should consider a career in aquaponics! You will participate in a hands-‐on activity involving water quality and learn how water runs the system. Session 3 or 4 in LSB 104i Heidi is a science educator who returned to the classroom after researching aquaculture, building greenhouses and engineering aquaculture systems at Cheyney University. Her passion is mentoring young women in the STEM career path.
Healthcare Careers: Your Future Is Not Cookie Cutter Kathleen Gostkowski, Justine Gostkowski, Sarah Gostkowski Woods, CHOP Presenters will lead an open discussion regarding what helped them make a decision to be a part of healthcare, traditional vs. non-‐traditional areas, education, experience & the use of technology. Session 1 or 2 in FH 102 Kathleen is Health Services Administrator at Woods. Justine is a senior clinical research analyst for a pharmaceutical company, testing dermatology & skin products. Sarah is a BSN, RN in NICU.

The Human Side of Research Amy Valerio Independent Contractor This workshop will introduce the diverse and always in demand field of clinical research. The clinical research process will be introduced in an interactive manner, and the various educational and career pathways will be discussed. Session 1, 2 or 3 in MH 233 Amy has enjoyed a long career in clinical research. She has worked in clinical trials of new pharmaceuticals and medical devices, in many different roles & capacities.
Lois Lane Gets Digital Christina Kristofic Bucks County Courier Times Journalism is exactly the same as it used to be, yet completely different—thanks to technology. You’ll hear about what journalists do and how technology hurts and helps their work. Session 1 or 2 in FH 113 Christina is the assistant news director for the Bucks County Courier Times. She loves reading. Her favorite animal is the elephant.
Love Writing and Science? No Need to Choose Irene Durham BTG Pharmaceuticals Learn about the many opportunities there are for people who are good writers and love science. Learn how science writers take complicated information and make it easier to understand. Session 1 in FH 212 Irene has been a medical writer for over 30 years. She has a masters in science and is the Manager of Medical Communication at BTG Pharmaceuticals.

Using dissection, anatomy and surgical tools, discover what it takes to become a doctor. We unravel the medical student's journey by demonstrating examples of the compounding education you will receive in the future. Often times you will need a "stomach of steel" to get the job done! Learn about STEM, becoming an astronaut, and the many scientific & engineering opportunities for girls. The universe is yours for the taking. NASA can help get you there. She has had NASA training at the Goddard Space Flight Center, NASTAR Flight training, & participated in NOAA workshops.

The Road to Drug Approval: An Overview of the Drug Development Process Myra Frick Bringing a drug to market takes several years and a lot of money. Learn the steps that are required for drug approval in the U.S. & career option for women in STEM. Session 3 in FH 113 Myra works in medical research including drug development. She studied biochemistry and biology when women were under-‐represented in these fields. She is passionate about encouraging girls to study STEM.
Solvay-‐ Bringing Chemistry into Your Daily Life Juie Tanavade, Jennie McGuire Solvay Discover what working in an R&I Center in areas of personal care, paints, agro, oil and gas is like. Session 1 or 2 in LSB 104 Juie and Jennie are chemists working for Solvay in the R&I center in Bristol, PA. The work in areas that include personal care, paints, agro chemicals, oil and gas.
Spaghetti Anyone? Janine Clemens, Gloria Tafel GE Water & Process Technologies Did you ever think you could build a stable structure with spaghetti? You will be asked to turn on your engineering brains to build a structure that stands on its own! Session 1, 2, or 4 in LSB 102 Janine is an analytical chemist who works in new product design for industrial systems. Gloria is a microbiologist who works in industrial water treatment.
Sport Science: How STEM is the Secret to Athletic Performance! Jenni Brozena Aqueous Bigger, Better, Faster, Stronger! Athletics are the center stage in young peoples’ lives and the secret elite athletics and performance is the STEM within sport science. Join this workshop to find out about sport science and how STEM is connected with human movement. Session 1, 2, or 3 in MH 217 Jenni is an international sport scientist & entrepreneur. She is the Founder/Owner at Aqueous.
