WELCOME, FATHER ALI am Rev. Alner Uy Nambatac. I was born on 14 August 1969. My home country is the Philippines. I have four siblings, two elder sisters and two younger brothers. My beloved mom passed away in 2001. My dad is now retired and is battling Parkinson’s. I also have three nieces. All of them are in the Philippines. I was ordained a priest on 03 June 1996 and have been a priest for eighteen years now. I started my priestly ministry in the Diocese of Tagbilaran, Bohol, Philippines as a pastor on different churches for eight years. Then I was sent as a “loan” priest to the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux in Louisiana for three years. I was accepted in this wonderful Archdiocese of San Francisco in 2007. I served as an assistant pastor in the church of St. Catherine of Siena, Burlingame and currently am serving the church of St. Isabella, San Rafael. With the enduring presence of the Risen One, I have humbly accepted this new assignment as associate pastor of the Church of Nativity with joy and am now excited to serve the people of God under the leadership of Msgr. Calendar of NovenasTHE DEVOTION OF THE NOVENA

A novena is a devotion consisting of prayer said (most typically) on nine successive days, asking to obtain special graces. The practice of saying a novena is derived from Scripture. Upon Jesus’ Ascension into heaven, He told His disciples to pray together in the upper room and devote themselves to constant prayer (Acts 1:14). The Apostles, Blessed Virgin Mary, and other followers of Jesus prayed together for nine consecutive days, concluding on Pentecost. Novena prayers are considered to be especially efficacious when the novena im-mediately precedes the saint’s feast day (begin the novena so that the ninth day is the day just prior to the feast day).

Peter and Paul, and the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome. The theme of this year’s Fortnight will focus on the freedom to serve the poor and vulnerable in accord with human dignity and the Church’s teaching.Special Masses will be celebrated in Baltimore on 21 June 2014 and in Washington, D.C. on 04 July 2014. THE PRIEST’S VESTMENTSThe vestments used by the sacred ministers in liturgical celebrations derive from ancient Greek and Roman secular clothing. In the first centuries the raiment of persons of a certain social level (the “honestiores,” persons of rank with property) was adopted for the Christian liturgy and this practice was maintained in the Church, even after the peace of Constantine.

At the beginning of his vesting the priest washes his hands, reciting an appropriate prayer; beyond the practical hygienic purpose, this act has a profound symbolism, inasmuch as it signifies passage from the profane to the sacred, from the world of sin to the pure sanctuary of the Most High. The washing of the hands is in some manner equivalent to removing the sandals before the burning bush (Exodus 3:5).

The prayer hints at this spiritual dimension: “Da, Domine, virtutem manibus meis ad abstergendam omnem maculam; ut sine pollutione mentis et corporis valeam tibi servire” (Give virtue to my hands, O Lord, that being cleansed from all stain I might serve you with purity of mind and body).

After the washing of the hands, the vesting proper begins. There is a prayer said with each step of the vesting.1. The priest begins with the amice, a rectangular linen cloth, which has two strings and is placed over the shoulders and around the neck; the strings are then tied about the waist. The amice has the purpose of covering the everyday clothing, even if it is the priest’s clerical garb.2. The alb is the long white garment worn by the sacred ministers, which recalls the new and immaculate clothing that every Christian has received through baptism.3. Over the alb and around the waist is placed the girdle or cincture, a cord made of wool or other suitable material that is used as a belt. All those who wear albs must also wear the cincture.4. The maniple is an article of liturgical dress used in the celebration of the extraordinary form of the Holy Mass of the Roman Rite.5. The stole is the distinctive element of the raiment of the ordained minister and it is always worn in the celebration of the sacraments and sacramentals. It is a strip of material that is embroidered, according to the norm, whose color varies with respect to the liturgical season or feast day.6. Finally, the chasuble is put on, the vestment proper to him who celebrates the Holy Mass.
