“We Love Our Church”

Happy New Year!

And may this be a happy, joyous New Year for all of us! I am so proud to be your priest! We have

enjoyed a wondrous Christmas time together. We have welcomed new members and enjoyed each other’s

company at luncheons and special coffee hours and most especially at worship! Life here at Good Shepherd

has been joyous.

Our Christmas Eve services were very well attended, and on Christmas Day we quietly welcomed the

birth of our Savior with Morning Prayer and a Eucharist. Then, on the Saturday following Christmas, we

felt the comfort and joy of our Taize service. We prayed and worshipped the newborn Jesus with readings

and chants in the soft glow of candlelight.

There are so many different ways to worship. Some of them may be new to you, but give them a try. We

sing, we listen to both spoken and sung sermons. Our Choir’s lovely Christmas cantata, I Hear the Prophet

Calling, was so beautiful. Jen Fisicaro, our new Music Director, had to hit the ground running and she has

done so well with both our vocal choirs and directing our Bell Choir. We laugh with delight and tears come

into our eyes as we watch our children perform The Glorious Impossible, their Christmas pageant, directed

with such zest by Brad and Jaclyn Davies.

We had so many of our children and young people participating in our services this year — playing the

piano and the organ! And singing! They also read and led our prayers so well. We can be very proud of

them. We have a talented group of kids here at Good Shepherd. I thank God for all of them and for all of

you.

Something to remember…

Happy Day After Christmas,

Merry Rest of the Year,

Even When Christmas is Over,

Christ awaits us, ‘round every corner!

Blessings,

Mother Susan+

OUTREACH

Thank you for the many wonderful clothes that you have donated to the folks in Camden! We rec’d two LARGE bags of shoes last month – that is particularly wonderful! The people in Camden, especially men, are always in need of good shoes! If you have something that you wish to donate, please place the items in manageable size bags only, on our front porch and we will see that they get to St. Wilfrid’s clinic to be distributed to those in need. We are located at 223 Highland Terrace, in Pitman.

Blessings, Deacon Carl and Ellie Dunn

Contemplative Prayer Time

For those who seek a time for quiet prayer on Saturdays and Sundays, Mother Susan opens the church on Saturdays at 4:30 PM for the 5:30 PM service. OUR PRAY-ERS MINISTRY

Each Sunday during Communion time, our team of Pray-ers offer prayers with our parishioners. We have now expanded this meaningful ministry to our Saturday evening Holy Eucharist at 5:30pm.

After you receive Holy Communion, if you want/need additional prayers, there will be a team of Pray-ers in the front of the Church who are willing to pray with you. These prayers can be offered in joy for a Blessing you have received, or can be to help ease a burden which lies on your heart. Please take advantage of this wonderful ministry of our parish. All prayers are confidential.

Anyone interested in being a Pray-er Minister at the Saturday night or Sunday services please contact Barbara Elliott @ 589-3980 or [email protected]

MORNING PRAYER

Morning Prayer is on Tuesday & Thursday

mornings at 9 AM with Mother Susan in the

chapel.

HEALING PRAYER

Mother Susan is now offering Healing Prayer

with anointing and laying on of hands on the

first Saturday of every month following the

Saturday evening service.

Rental Forms &

Special Events Checklist

The Vestry has adopted an updated Rental

Form for Not for Profit outside groups who would

like to rent the Parish Hall and/or

classrooms. This includes birthday & anniversary

parties, showers, community & civic meetings,

instructional programs, etc.

The new forms are available in the Parish Hall

and will also be on the Church website as a Fill-in

PDF form. All forms are to be submitted to the

attention of our Claude Coulson, Event

Coordinator.

Also new is a Special Events Checklist Form to

be utilized by Church ministry leaders when

scheduling special event activities and functions

such as paint nights, Quiz Bowl night,

Progressive Dinners, and the like. The checklist

is intended as a guide in planning events to

insure all details required have been addressed,

from Church availability to publicity. Claude

Coulson has volunteered to act as the liaison to

those in charge of organizing the event. The

Special Event Checklist forms are also in the

Parish Hall and on the Church website; and may

be sent to Claude directly or left with Maryanne in

the Church office. Claude may be contacted

at [email protected] or via phone/text at

410-218-2877 for more information.

Thank You God for A New Year By Alice Aultman

It is time to care for all of the Christmas decorations and sort out what can go out to the 2020 Holly fair. Also if you have an accumulation of plastic bags they can go into the container in the Fellowship Hall.

May I suggest a thought for a special new resolution? Think through your daily activities and come up with one small habit, that if changed could improve some part of your living situation.

My bad habit was to stack incoming mail. Oh yes, if it was a bill, personal letter or an interesting advertisement I would care for it. BUT, if it was something uninteresting that could be stacked to be sorted later it would be added to an existing pile. This habit resulted in a constant pile of items to address “later”. My desk was never cleared and sometimes looked downright messy. To eliminate the clutter I added a couple of file folders that fit in the desk drawer. In one I put in anything that needed immediate attention. In the other one I got into the “new” habit of adding anything I didn’t know what to do with at the moment. This plan worked with the addition of a planned space for the reading materials and I found it takes only a few minutes of sorting when the mail arrives and thus I have a neat appearing work area.

Another thought is thanking God for something we take for granted. As I finally complete my days’ activities I say “Thank you God for my comfortable bed”. Whether this helps sleep to come or not depends on the chores of the day but I know God knows I am thankful for his care.

Shawl/Caring Hands Ministry

Every so often we get a request for a Prayer

Shawl to be given to someone in need.

Sometimes it is during an illness, sometimes

during grieving periods after the loss of a loved

one. The Shawls are crocheted or knitted by

the women in this ministry. Every other

Tuesday morning you will find our Caring

Hands Group knitting/crocheting the shawls in

our Conference room. They are made with

prayer for those who will receive them.

I can’t begin to tell you of the peace and

comfort these shawls have brought to so many

people. They need not be members of our

parish. Need is spread everywhere.

If you know of a need, just ask Pat Braidwood.

ADULT FORUM

Adult Forum will meet on Sunday,

January 5 following the 10 a.m. service.

They will continue with Marcus Borg’s

“Embracing an Adult Faith.”

THURSDAY STUDY GROUP (Thursday mornings, 9:30-11 a.m.)

On January 9, 2020 the Thursday Study

Group will continue with Living the Questions

“Painting the Stars: Science, Religion and an

Evolving Faith.” This series will conclude on

January 30. Our next study will be based on

Bishop Shelby Spong’s book, Why Christianity

Must Change or Die.” Participants should

order a copy and come prepared in February

to take a look at Chapter One.

Please Be Considerate of

Our Neighbors!

We are so glad you're here! But when you

park near the church, please be considerate

of our neighbors and make sure you have

fully cleared their driveways. Thank you!
