What is a Friend?
A friend is a kind person. They play with you. A friend is nice and shouldn’t be
mean to you at all.
Marina is my friend because she plays with me. She cares if I get hurt. We’re
like sisters. We care for each other.
Everyone in my class is my friend, the girls and the boys.
By Faith Stevens
What is a Friend?
A friend is a person who helps out someone when they need help. A friend is
not an enemy to you.
Nickolas is one of my friends because he has helped me out when I’ve been hurt.
He is also a good friend because he is nice.
By James Kontos
What is a Friend?
A friend is someone nice to you. A friend is someone you judge from the inside
and not the outside. A friend is someone close to you. A friend is not a bully.
I have a friend named Julian. Julian is my best friend because at recess in
Kindergarten he was the only one who asked me to be his friend. He was nice to me
the first day in Kindergarten.
I have more friends; Nickolas, Luke, Costa, James, Sebastian and Ryan.
Nickolas showed me around the classroom.
By Mark Messiha
What is a Friend?
A friend is someone who you can trust. You can depend on them. They will be
there when you need help. I have lots of friends. They are so kind and always so
generous.
My friend, Karen, is the best. She is awesome. I love her so much. She is
always there for me. We play a lot. We love to play on the monkey bars and do word
searches together. It is fun.
I love all my friends. I am so glad I have them with me, and I hope we will
always be friends forever.

If I were the principal of St.
Nicholas School, I would let students
have free dress more often. I would
also let them go to P.E three times a
week, and I would definitely give
children less homework on Mondays.
I would let children have free
dress often because if they can’t find
their uniforms, they can just have free
dress.
I would let students go to P.E
three times a week because they need
fitness and its fun and good for the
students. As a principal, I would not
give that much homework on
Mondays because they just returned
to school and they must be tired from
the weekend.
I know being a principal is
hard work and a great opportunity,
but that is what I’d do if I were the
principal of St. Nicholas School.
By Dimitra Siapkas
If I were the principal of St.
Nicholas School, I would make
change the time when we get to
school. I would change the time
from 8:15 am to 9:15 am because
everyone is late, and it is too early
for me.
Another thing I would
change if I were principal is PE. I
would change PE because there
needs to be more sports like
Basketball and Volleyball.
The last thing I would
change is less homework because
there is a lot. This is what I would
do if I were the Principal!
By Ian Mena
If I were principal of St.
Nicholas School, I
would send my students more
often to the library because that
way they will get a better
education and they will be better
readers if they have trouble
reading.
Another idea of mine
would be for the children to be in
art more than once like twice a
week. I would give them another
art period so they will learn more
about it.
My last idea would be for
the children to learn more than
Greek. I picked this idea because
they would have a better
opportunity to have an important
job. These are my ideas when I’ll
be principal.
By Sophia Pineda
If I were the principal of St. Nicholas School, I would make recess 30 minutes because the children at recess
would have more fun and the children in study hall after they finish their standards, they could do the work that they
have to make up or rest their head if they don’t have any.
I would also give the children a longer lunch so that they don’t go home with food in their lunch box. I
would lower the prices so that more people would keep their children here longer even though the economy is bad.
I also would have a banner that says “Prices Dropped, Open House”. That would make it great for the
school!

In 3rd Grade Science, students study adaptations of plants
and animals, and the environments in which living things
make their homes. These are examples of an aquatic habitat,
complete with adaptations for defense: spines near the tails,
false eyes and camouflage.

In the Spirit of Easter, St. Nicholas School will
be collecting brand new shoes, socks and shoe laces.
These items will be distributed by Buckner
International to at-risk children in the United States
and to Orphans in 55 countries around the world.
This is something we like to do every year to
help Orphanages who do not receive enough funding to
support the children in their care. One of the greatest
and most immediate needs is a pair of shoes.
The Shoes for Orphan Souls drive will be on
Friday, March 23, 2012, so any shoes, socks or shoe
laces that you may want to donate, please give to your
children to bring to school.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to
help these children who are in need.

HOW TO CHANGE A
TIRE Knowing how to change a flat
tire is important in case you get a flat
tire on the road. To change a flat tire,
you will need a jack, a lug nut wrench,
and a spare tire.
First take the jack and the lug
nut wrench and the spare tire out of the
trunk of your car. Place them on the
ground near the flat tire. Next, place the
jack under the frame of the car near the
flat tire and raise the flat tire off the
ground with the jack. Then, loosen the
lug nuts with the lug nut wrench and
move them from the tire. Put them
where they will not get lost. Take off the
tire; replace it with the spare tire and
using the lug nut wrench tighten the lug
nuts on the spare tire.
Finally, lower the jack so the
spare tire is resting on the road, put the
tools and the flat tire in the trunk of your
car and drive away!

Connie Spiropoulos, one of
our students in Mrs. Carpiac’s class
along with sister Marina
Spiropoulos in Ms. Chobanian’s
class cut their beautiful long hair
and donated it to “Locks of Love.”
Locks of Love is a public non-profit
organization that provides
hairpieces to financially
disadvantaged children in the
United States and Canada under age
21 suffering from long-term
medical hair loss from any
diagnosis. What a nice gesture!
Parents & Students,
Make sure not to forget that on
Monday February 20, there will be no
school since it is Presidents’ Day.
School will resume the following day.
St. Nicholas School is having “Free Dress Day” on
Tuesday, February 14. Please make sure to wear red!
Hope everyone has a lovely Valentine’s Day.
