GROUP EXPERIENCES

Celtic Manor’s range of team building activities can help to develop confidence and leadership skills, break down barriers to communication, improve planning and problem solving, and foster the trust and cooperation that underlies effective team working.

Designed to fit in with your timescales, budget and varying levels of physical abilities, our challenges include tests of communication, team work, leadership and planning, providing your team with valuable new skills, a fantastic sense of achievement and above all, a lot of fun.

OPTION 1 Choose one ice breaker and one team building activity for the whole group

Short, quick and fun activities to help the whole group relax and get into the right frame of mind for the team building activity ahead. All ice breakers will run in small groups of 6 – 12 people.

The Human KnotA perfect task to help everyone relax and communicate on a fun and dynamic level.

Line UpTeams must line up in a number of ways, but it won’t be as easy as it sounds!

The Paper LoopCome up with a way to use the equipment provided to turn the paper into a loop that one team member can get over their whole body.

FireworksDesign an exciting display where each team member plays the role of a specific firework.

This Is A PoundTeam members must be aware of what’s going on around them at all times or they will be out of the game.

Ring With A HoopHold hands in a circle and work together to get a Hula Hoop around the entire group without breaking the circle.

Eye ContactNice and simple – the group stands in a circle looking at the floor, one person shouts ‘eyes up’, if there is any eye contact you are out.

The WebA challenge that will help your team improve their trust, time management, delegation and logical thinking skills in a fun environment.

The Picasso Picture ShowIndividuals must work together as a team and communicate effectively to paint a picture that only one of them has seen.

The Land RaftTeams must construct a land raft to transport them from Point A to Point B using only Egyptian technology.

Mission MinefieldTeams must cross a simulated minefield using the equipment provided, whilst also transferring a container of hazardous material before its contents cause an environmental disaster.

Human Sheep HerdingThe team will elect a shepherd who must guide the blindfolded team members dressed as sheep, safely into a pen. A truly hilarious challenge where the team’s communication skills are put to the test.

Toxic WasteEquipped with a bungee cord and rope, the group must work out how to transport a bucket of ‘toxic waste’ and tip it into the ‘neutralisation bucket’. Toxic waste can be used to highlight almost any aspect of teamwork or leadership.

Pipeline / Gutter BallA fast paced activity that can be customised to suit age and setting. Each team member gets one gutter or half pipe tubing and the object is to move a marble or assorted size balls from Point A to Point B without dropping them.

TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITIES

All AboardA classic team building activity challenging groups to physically support one another in an endeavour to occupy an ever-diminishing space.

The Great Egg DropGroups design packaging to save an egg from breaking when dropped, plus a 30 second jingle to sell their package. This is followed by the ‘great egg drop’.

Create Your Own ActivityGroups will design and present a new group activity. This is a challenging exercise which requires all the elements of teamwork – communication, goal setting, planning, cooperation, creativity, task orientation and more.

Building BridgesGroups must work together to build a bridge that can hold a weight and span a short distance.

Ring of TrustThe whole group makes a ring using climbing rope, then a member of the group must walk the ring of trust.

Robot and ControllerThe controller must navigate the robot to the ammunition then defeat the opposition’s robots.

Blind Man’s BuffOne group member is blindfolded and has to tag other members of the group – simple but classic.

FOREST JUMP

Located in woodland on the resort grounds, our exhilarating Forest Jump treetop adventure features both high and low ropes courses with bridges, walkways and challenging obstacles made from wood, rope and wire in the treetops, along with a 13 metre Forest Fall jump – not for the faint-hearted!

Group High Ropes Adventure Includes one session on our high ropes course, plus one Forest Fall jump per person.

RESORT ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES

Nestled in 2,000 acres of rolling Welsh countryside, Celtic Manor’s stunning setting lends itself perfectly to a range of exciting indoor and outdoor adventure activities.

Ultimate Corporate ChallengeThis specially designed package allows teams to compete in a number of challenges testing their speed, accuracy and teamwork. Can you win enough points to take your place on our ultimate challenge leaderboard?

Package includes:• Tea, coffee and pastries on arrival• High Ropes Target Challenge - high up on the

course each participant must earn points for their team by hitting targets on the ground

• The Water Carry Challenge – your team must traverse our low ropes course, each carrying a bucket of water and trying not to spill any

• Low Ropes Speed Challenge – who will be fastest? Race around our course to win more points

• The Forest Fall Ball Drop – the challenge is to get the ball into the target – sounds easy? Try it whilst freefalling from 13 metres!

• Ultimate Corporate Challenge Leaderboard – once the fun is over, take your place on our online leaderboard to see just how good you were!


TREASURE HUNT

A fun activity where participants attempt to navigate their way around the resort, or find hidden items, by means of a series of clues.


ADVENTURE GOLF

Adventure is the name of the game with this fun putting challenge, designed for players of all abilities. This unique group activity, comprising of two 9 hole courses featuring water hazards, bridges and rafts, is perfect for adding some friendly competition to your corporate event.

LASER COMBAT

Take on the challenge of this exhilarating, pain-free combat game using high-tech guns which fire infra-red beams – what could be more exciting? Our Laser Combat arena is a large indoor themed battlefield filled with hiding places, barricades, camouflage nets, laser lights and realistic sound effects that make you feel like you’ve entered a real life battle zone. Please be aware that there will be flashing lights during this activity.

TENNIS

The resort has two professional standard floodlit tennis courts, both with all-season surfaces, which can be hired for private use.

ON TARGET

Calling all sharp shooters and hotshots! Put your skills of accuracy to the test as you try your hand at the ancient art of archery or crossbow with this exhilarating outdoor experience.

CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING

Catering for all levels of expertise from beginners to professionals, Treetops Shooting School has delivered countless quality shooting experiences for guests at Celtic Manor.

Clays, cartridges, shotguns and qualified expert advice are all part of a great taster session which includes full safety briefing, professional coaching, hire of equipment, ear and eye protection, tea and coffee onsite at Treetops and transfers from the resort (approx 15 minutes each way).

As host venue of The 2010 Ryder Cup and home of the ISPS Handa Wales Open, the golfing facilities at Celtic Manor are exceptional. Whether you are an experienced golfer or complete beginner, there is no better place to experience this great game.

Our indoor simulator situated at the Golf Academy is a great way to test your ability on over 100 different world-class golf courses. Pick a course and challenge each other on a famous track of your choice, including Celtic Manor’s renowned Twenty Ten course where you can try to replicate some of the famous Ryder Cup shots!


GOLF TRICK SHOT SHOW

Get ready for fun, thrills and audience participation as World Golf Trick Shot Champion, Geoff Swain, amazes you with his mind-blowing trick shots and unbelievable hand-eye coordination, accompanied by entertaining top tips and humorous anecdotes. Show includes audience participation giving some of your guests the chance to perform these amazing tricks!

GOLF TUITION FUN ZONE

A perfect team building activity designed to cater for all abilities and add some exciting competition to your corporate event. This is a great way to learn a little about golf in a fun and relaxed environment.

Head to your bespoke ‘fun zone’ at the Golf Academy, consisting of 3 to 5 golfing activities (depending on time) which will test all aspects of your group’s golfing skills. Driving, irons, pitching, chipping and putting will all be demonstrated by our golf professionals, then taught to your group with time to practice. Finally a competition for each activity will take place, but who will hold their nerve the best?

The award-winning Forum Spa offers a wide range of treatment options that can be tailored to suit the needs of corporate groups of all sizes. We will be pleased to discuss your particular requirements and to offer advice on tailoring treatment packages to suit both your timescale and your budget.

WELLNESS EXPERIENCES

SPA ON THE GO

If time is at a premium then a selection of treatments can be offered in the Convention Centre during lunch or coffee breaks. Individual spa therapists can be hired to support your event or exhibition at The Celtic Manor Resort, offering mini taster treatments such as neck and shoulder or hand and arm massage – perfect for your delegates to enjoy during a break, or to attract visitors to your stand.

Newbridge Riverside KitchenChef Gavin McDonagh shares delicious seasonal dishes from our 2 AA Rosette award-winning Newbridge on Usk country inn.

Learn how to make flavoured ganaches and chocolate shells, plus put the finishing touches to hand-rolled truffles, liquid centre chocolates, dipped chocolates and chocolate marzipan.

Think you know your Bordeaux from your Burgundy, or your Riesling from your Rioja? Whether you are an experienced wine buff, have a keen appreciation, or have absolutely no idea where to begin, our knowledgeable sommelier will entertain and inform you with these hugely enjoyable interactive tasting sessions.

DRIVING EXPERIENCES

Quad CourseManoeuvre these unconventional bikes around a course with obstacles, such as slalom and seesaw. It is a real test of speed and skill to see who can gain the fastest time without penalties.

4x4 OffroadHere is a great chance to test your skill on a demanding course over a variety of off road terrain. This isn’t a drive through the park but a real opportunity for individuals to experience the might of a 4x4 during your corporate event.

Blind 4x4It is all down to trust on this one! Take the driver’s seat, position your blindfold and you’re off! Your instructor will guide you around a twisty course whilst two or three of your colleagues hang on in the back and use various forms of communication to direct you!

Honda PilotsThis is one of our most popular away day activities. Speed around the dirt track in these American style dune buggies to see who can gain the fastest lap of the day. Our challenging courses have a variety of testing corners and are excellent fun whether it is wet or dry.

EXTREME ADVENTURES

Quad SafariAre you ready to take on the challenge of the quad safari? This takes you on a thrilling ride on an exciting course, the emphasis here being on skill and handling. The wetter the conditions, the tougher it gets but our experienced instructors will guide you through. A true winner on team away days!

SegwaysThese two wheeled machines will prove a hit wherever they are taken or used. They are highly versatile and mobile, a fantastic piece of modern technology and will balance themselves as you turn on the spot and make your way over the 4x4 path. They are totally unique and your guests will be stunned by the versatility of these machines and the fact that anyone can get to grips with them in minutes.

HovercraftIf you want a unique ride you can’t go far wrong with the experience of “flying” a hovercraft. You’ll receive expert one-to-one tuition from an experienced instructor sat beside you as you learn how to control this powerful and unique speed machine around our course.

Celtic Manor is pleased to offer the following adventure activities in conjunction with ACF Hospitality, one of the UK’s leading event companies with over 20 years’ experience of running thousands of fantastic corporate events.

Stunt DrivingLive out your childhood dream and learn the professional movie stunt skills required for fantastic feats of amazing car control. Our instructors will teach you precision stunts such as handbrake turns, reverse 180 degree flicks (J turns) and the art of power sliding. Then it’s onto the rally stage for an amazing cops ‘n’ robbers finale with the opportunity to drive both the get-away car and the cop car doing the chasing.

Lorry Cab DrivingThe ultimate big boy’s (and girl’s) toy! Experience the size and power of this mighty beast as you manoeuvre around the course. Fear not, you will have a fully licensed HGV driver by your side. With no rear view mirror and several tons of rolling metal, you must have your wits about you in order to avoid the obstacles.


SHOOT TO THRILL

Laser ShootingA popular away day alternative to clay pigeon shooting. An all-weather, high-tech system which closely simulates the real thing. The laser guns have been modified to fire infra-red beams at the clays.

Air RiflesWith four people shooting at once, this is the perfect opportunity to practice on a range of different targets. Knock down ducks or boars, a selection of spinners or for the real sharp shooters - try to hit the exploding chalk disc targets.

Clay ShootingACF caters for complete beginners to the more experienced shot and uses lighter-weight equipment for ladies. Each shooting stand will be manned by a qualified instructor who will show guests various techniques of shooting simulated game e.g. crossing pigeon, high pheasant. Shooting approximately 25 clays during a one hour session, guests will have the opportunity to practice before their scores count towards the winning trophy.

IT’S A KNOCKOUT

This is where the teams go head to head in a fantastic range of vibrant games. The format and structure of the event may vary depending upon the amount of attendees. It may be run as one large ‘It’s a Knockout’ or two smaller Knockouts depending upon the format we decide would fit best.
