the dollar volume of small-business loans under a Treasury Department program designed to expand access to credit for small businesses. According to a report recently released, community banks alone made nearly 60 percent of the loans provided under the State Small Business Credit Initiative.

Community bank loans participating in the program led to the creation or preservation of nearly 28,000 jobs, and CDFI loans accounted for more than 9,000 more jobs created or retained, Treasury reported. Additionally, community banks originated 1,853 loans under the program, while CDFIs accounted for another 2,008. Meanwhile, large banks and credit unions originated 403 and 35 loans, respectively.

The Small Business Jobs Act of 2010 created the SSBCI and provided nearly $1.5 billion for state programs that support access to credit for small businesses and small manufacturers. Treasury said it expects the program to generate up to $15 billion in new private capital.

House Expected to Take Up Farm Bill This WeekThe House is expected to proceed to consideration of the farm bill this week without holding a public conference committee meeting, according to reports. Farm bill conferees met in Washington, and the House and Senate Agriculture committees will file the conference report. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said that the House could take up the farm bill soon before the House recesses for a Republican retreat.

CFPB Seeks Applications for Community Bank Advisory CouncilThe Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said it is seeking applications for positions on its advisory groups, including the Community Bank Advisory Council. The CBAC provides the CFPB with feedback on policy development, research, rulemaking and engagement.

The bureau said the CBAC was created to ensure it receives feedback from community banks less than $10 billion in assets, which are not under the CFPB’s supervision but may be affected by bureau regulations. CBAC members serve single two-year terms.

Applications will be accepted until February 28, 2014. Read CFPB’s Federal Register Notice. Access Advisory Board Application.

Congratulations and Farewell to Chairman Ben BernankeBen Bernanke's upcoming final meeting as Fed chairman, set to conclude today, is previewed, with the Wall Street Journal pointing out that Bernanke's detractors admit he's achieved the goals he set. The Journal asks four asset managers to assess Bernanke's tenure. Financial Times picks three of Janet Yellen's biggest challenges in her new job, including whether to continue Bernanke's efforts at providing more public disclosures and holding press conferences. The Washington Post ran a long Sunday profile of the woman behind those press conferences, Michelle Smith, the Fed's chief of staff, and says she was "instrumental in pushing the naturally reserved" Bernanke to become more open.

Great Success for the CBA Leadership Division's Inaugural Women in Banking SeminarThe successful Inaugural Women in Banking Seminar was held at the Community Bankers Association of Georgia (CBA) headquarters on Thursday, January 23rd in the Julian Hester Training Center. Women in the banking industry from all over the state had an opportunity to network with each other, all while learning methods on how to continue their careers with confidence. The agenda for the day included a continental breakfast, two dynamic speakers, a hearty lunch and a chance for attendees to express their inner artist with Pinot’s Palette of Johns Creek.

Over 30 women gathered at the first-ever event to gain insight from guest speakers Anne Chandler and Becky Blalock. Anne’s "Protocols that Empower” presentation gave women knowledge on how to maintain professional etiquette throughout the day. Becky, author of the bestseller, Dare, Straight Talk on Confidence, Courage and Career for Women in Charge, shared wisdom on topics including confidence, goal-setting, taking risks and giving back.

As the day came to a close, Pinot’s Palette of John’s Creek joined CBA for a paint party! The Julian Hester Training Center quickly transformed into an art studio as the room was covered with art supplies, easels and paints. Women were able to convey their creativity by painting their own lovely "canvas creation.”

CBA Leadership Division’s Inaugural Women in Banking Seminar was a spectacular event to benefit CBA’s PAC/PR Funds. The CBA maintains the only state PAC working exclusively for Georgia’s Community Banks. Be on the lookout for details on how you can attend the next Women in Banking Seminar! Click here to view more photos from the seminar.

Congratulations to DeNyse Companies on Being Featured in Atlanta CityBizThe Community Bankers Association of Georgia (CBA), the only state association that exclusively serves Georgia’s community banks, has a new look, thanks to a dedicated member.

When Rob Braswell, President & CEO of Community Bankers Association of Georgia joined the Association in June 2013 after a 30 year career with the Georgia Department of Banking & Finance, he was ready to update CBA’s logo and tagline. He mentioned this goal when visiting with Allen DeNyse, co-owner of DeNyse Companies in Douglasville at a CBA Bank Directors’ College. Allen also serves on the Board of Directors of MetroBank in Douglasville. Allen offered his company’s design services to Rob for the association and the new look was created.

According to Mr. Braswell, "The new green and navy blue logo graphically reflects our focus on growth in services, our goal to always offer fresh ideas and initiatives, and our unswerving commitment to the cause of community banking in an ever-changing environment.
