The Carillon First Baptist Church of Penfield 2016 If God Is Love: Rediscovering Grace In An Ungracious World Over the past several weeks during 2nd hour, we have been studying a book entitled, If God Is Love. The central premise of the book is the affirmation: God Is Love. It is from this premise the authors invite readers to explore the tenets of our faith. The authors asks us to consider how aspects of our faith speak or do not speak a word of love and grace into our world. It takes a bit a courage to take the journey the authors take us on because it means critically exploring tenets of our faith and asking if these tenets align with a Gracious and Loving God. I selected this book for how it invites us to careful consideration of just what the grace and the love of God mean, and how a new understanding of grace and love will help this church (and all churches) project themselves into the future. As a group we are not in total agreement on everything the authors propose. I believe however that we are having a healthy and respectful conversation with one another. Recently we reviewed the 5th chapter entitled “Gracious Religion.” I share with you a passage I found particularly striking. “Our hearts are changed only when we realize God's unconditional love for us and embrace our responsibility to love others unconditionally. We don't need to accept Jesus into our hearts; we need to have the same heart as Jesus.” Your Brother In Christ Pastor Phil A Welcome from the Trustees and First Baptist Church of Penfield Please welcome our new Office Assistant, Andrea Main to our church office. Some of you may already know that Jen Satter has taken a position with the Pal/Mac school district and we wish her all the best. Andrea is happily married to her best friend, David. They are enjoying the "Empty Nest" after raising 5 children. She is an avid animal lover. They have 3 dogs and 3 cats. They call Palmyra home with a lot of land for all her critters to explore. And yes, she would take more!! Please stop into the church office between 9:00am and 1:00pm to welcome Andrea to our church family. Angels in Our MidstBelieve it or not, there are angels at PenfieldBaptist! You may never knowwho they are because they tend towork alone and at odd hours of theday or night. These angels sensetheir calling to be of serviceto others without special title, recognition, or compensation. For the most part, we may neveractually know the angels' namesbut they are always at work.First Baptist Angels tend to remainsomewhat anonymous, however, they really doexist and we are grateful for all they accomplish.

If, by any chance, YOU are one of the angels, would you be willing to let the CoordinatingCouncil know what it is you watch over? Newstaff in the church office needs to know who cananswer random questions and inquiries that popup from time to time. Bless you, Angels.

Memorial Fund andEndowment Funds

Several church members have asked what thedifference is between these very important fundsthat help our church in different ways. Theyhave also asked about how to make acontribution to either.

Each fund can be contributed to by check orstock transfer by sending the money to myattention and labeling the funds carefully so Iunderstand what you want done with yourmoney.

The Memorial Fund handles money left to thechurch after a member dies and the familyexpresses a desire for contributions to be madeto First Baptist Church Penfield. I receive themoney and it is recorded with the donor’s nameand the memorialized person as well. MarieSandman is the Treasurer of those funds andthey are held at Fairport Savings and Loan untilthe family decides what to do with the funds.Marie sends an acknowledgement to eachcontributor and advises the family of who sentmemorial money. The church has a wish list ofitems that could be funded by memorial monies.

It is our tradition to consult the family about theuse of the money.

The Endowment Fund was established decadesago as a method of providing financial securityfor our church in the present and future. It isdefined in our Constitution and is managed bythe Trustees through Karpus Investments.People have left money to this fund during theirlifetime as well as after death. The funds areprotected by our Constitution as follows:“Income from the Endowment Funds and up tofive percent (5%) principal per annum, in theTrustee’s discretion may be added to theChurch’s operating funds annually…Invasion ofprincipal beyond the five percent (5%) abovereferenced may only be carried out withCongregational approval. All other funds shallremain in the Endowment Funds. At the annualmeeting, the Trustees will provide a reportdetailing the status of each Endowment Fund.”This money remains invested for the future.People have given generously knowing it ishandled responsibly.
