Job Overview
• Give anesthesia during surgery• Monitor patients’ vital functions
and continue administering the anesthetic throughout the surgery• Help alleviate chronic or acute pain felt
by patients• Help the surgeon and work with other
hospital staff• Monitor patients after surgery• Use complex equipment, monitors, and
drugs to limit pain
Job Overview• Do research to help treat and cure
disease, make new medicines, and discover new techniques
• Talk with patients about their anesthesia• Record medical history• Use medical histories to determine which
anesthetic to use• Use key skills which are speaking,
listening, decision making, and responding
Education
• Study many undergraduate subjects before medical school
• Complete at least 3 years of college to get into medical school
• Get accepted to and graduate from medical school
• Complete residency • Pass the United States Medical Licensing
Examination (USMLE) to be licensed
