RUBY TURNERFor many years Ruby Turner has been regarded as having one of the greatest voices the UK has ever produced. Ruby can breathe life and meaning into a song whether it is a passionate soaring ballad or a soulful up-tempo groove. Her career to date has been sensational with major tours, film, TV and theatre appearances.

Born in Jamaica, Ruby moved to England when she was nine and her major break came when she was taken under the wings of British blues legend, the late Alexis Korner.

Her first album, Women Hold Up Half The Sky was released to critical acclaim in 1986. This period spawned the hits If You’re Ready (Come Go With Me) and I’d Rather Go Blind and, in the American R’n‘B chart, the number 1 hit single It’s Gonna Be Alright – one of less than ten British records to achieve this!

A very prolific songwriter, many of Ruby’s songs have been covered by artists such as Lulu, Yazz and Maxi Priest, while her vocal prowess has been employed to good effect by Brian Ferry, Mick Jagger, Steve Winwood, and Jools Holland.

OPERATION CRUCIBLE In The Studio

On 12 December 1940, more than six hundred people lost their lives in over seven hours of continuous bombing by Germany’s Luftwaffe. Their objective? Wiping Sheffield’s world famous steel works-the heartland of Britain’s munitions manufacturing-clean off the map.

At 11:44pm on the night of the raid, a single bomb reduced the Marples Hotel, from seven storeys to just fifteen feet of rubble. Only one of the ten compartments in the hotel’s cellars withstood the blast. Within it, trapped, were four men. This is their story, from beginning to end…

This, along with two guitars, bass, drums and the brilliant piano and keyboard skills of Dave Chapman, produces a sound that is second to none. MIDGE URE AND INDIA ELECTRIC COBreathe AgainIn 1995, Midge delivered his fourth solo album, Breathe, to BMG just 10 years after the phenomenal successes of Band Aid and Live Aid. Always one to ring the changes, this album had a very Celtic feel with a plethora of acoustic instruments from uilleann pipes to mandolins and accordions alongside Midge’s trademark soaring electric guitar riffs.

The album went triple platinum and was a massive success all over Europe. After the successful reformation of Ultravox in 2009, Midge feels it’s time to revisit his Celtic roots, and will perform Breathe in its entirety for the first time in 2015. Ably accompanied by the two musicians from India Electric Co, recreating the nature of the album. Of course, he will also play a selection of his other hits like Vienna, Dancing with Tears in My Eyes, Fade to Grey and If I Was, as well as songs from his recently released album Fragile.

DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG (WAGNER) Saturday 13 December 5:00pm James Levine returns to one of his signature Wagner works conducting this epic comedy back at the Met for the first time in eight years about a group of Renaissance “master singers” whose song contest unites a city. Johan Reuter, Johan Botha, and Annette Dasch lead the superb international cast in this charming and magisterial celebration of the power of music and art.

THE MERRY WIDOW (LEHÁR) - NEW PRODUCTION Saturday 17 January 5:55pmThe great Renée Fleming stars as the beguiling femme fatale who captivates all Paris in Lehár’s enchanting operetta, seen in a new staging by Broadway virtuoso director and choreographer Susan Stroman (The Producers, Oklahoma!, Contact). Stroman and her design team of Julian Crouch (Satyagraha, The Enchanted Island) and costume designer William Ivey Long (Cinderella, Grey Gardens, Hairspray) have created an art-nouveau setting that climaxes with singing and dancing grisettes at the legendary Maxim’s. Nathan Gunn co-stars as Danilo and Kelli O’Hara is Valencienne. Andrew Davis conducts. Approximate running time 2hrs 57mins

LES CONTES D’HOFFMANN (OFFENBACH) Saturday 31 January 5:55pmThe magnetic tenor Vittorio Grigolo takes on the tortured poet and unwitting adventurer of the title of Offenbach’s operatic masterpiece, in the Met’s wild, kaleidoscopic production. Soprano Hibla Gerzmava faces the operatic hurdle of singing all three heroines each an idealized embodiment of some aspect of Hoffmann’s desire. Thomas Hampson portrays the shadowy Four Villains, and Yves Abel conducts the sparkling score. Approximate running time 3hrs 46mins

IOLANTA (TCHAIKOVSKY) / DUKE BLUEBEARD’S CASTLE (BARTÓK) NEW PRODUCTION Saturday 14 February 5:30pmOn the heels of her triumphant Met performances in Eugene Onegin, soprano Anna Netrebko takes on another Tchaikovsky heroine in the first opera of this intriguing double bill, consisting of an enchanting fairy tale (Iolanta) followed by an erotic psychological thriller (Duke Bluebeard’s Castle). Netrebko stars as the beautiful blind girl who experiences love for the first time in Iolanta, while Nadja Michael is the unwitting victim of the diabolical Bluebeard, played by Mikhail Petrenko. Both operas are directed by Mariusz Trelinski, who was inspired by classic noir films of the 1940s. Iolanta also stars Piotr Beczala, and Valery Gergiev conducts both operas. Approximate running time 3hrs 39mins

LA DONNA DEL LAGO (ROSSINI) - NEW PRODUCTION Saturday 14 March 4:55pmBel canto superstars Joyce DiDonato and Juan Diego Flórez join forces for this Rossini showcase of vocal virtuosity, set in the medieval Scottish highlands and based on a beloved novel by Sir Walter Scott. Marcelo Álvarez rises to the challenge of playing the dual tenor roles of Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana and Canio in Pagliacci. Rae Smith (War Horse) has designed the moodily atmospheric 1900 village square setting of Cavalleria, which transforms to a 1948 truck stop for the doomed vaudeville troupe of Pagliacci. Eva-Maria Westbroek (Cav) and Patricia Racette (Pag) sing the unlucky heroines, and Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi is on the podium. Approximate running time 3hrs 30mins

100 YEARS OF WISDOMby Jack Lane13 January - 15 February February 4th 2015 would have been Sir Norman Wisdom’s 100th Birthday. To celebrate this local actor Jack Lane has put together an exhibition of original film posters and photos including a rare chance to see the original ‘Gump’ suit, on generous loan from Norman’s son, Nick Wisdom. Norman’s on screen antics, infectious laugh and physical humour had the world doubled up with laughter. He became a household name and was among the UK’s most popular comedy performers during the 1950s and 60s, smashing box office records on stage and screen. Jack is currently working on a one-man play on the life of Norman and hopes you’ll join him in a trip (and the odd fall) down memory lane.

WISH UPON THE MOONby Katherine Guest23 March – 26 AprilI am a 29 year old Child Psychotherapy student living in Horsham. I discover a lot of my inspiration in nature and the natural world around me. I grew up reading faerie tales, encouraged to be curious about magic and folklore- the possibility of what might be. In my images, I aim to illicit a child like wonder in the viewer, of faeries, ghosts, spirits and pixies allowing them to find a sense of peacefulness and calm, a chance to dream and a chance to be [email protected]
