AN INNOVATIVE CURRICULUM
A HISTORY OF EXCELLENCE
All of our educators have taught and
competed in debate themselves for years.
Our decades of experience let us create
some of the most comprehensive academic
programs in the country. Our students gain
the skills to succeed in competition, school,
and careers. Students are pushed to improve.
They learn logic, critical thinking, case devel-
opment, refutation skills, advanced crossfire
techniques, teamwork, communication,
organization, research, and writing.
Our students experience the benfits of our
programs in many areas, especially in the
competitive arena. Our students consistently
win and place in national debate tourna-
ments. In 2013 our alumni were:
• The Glenbrooks, Champions
• Patriot Invitational, Champions
• NDCA Nationals, Champions
• Harvard, Finalists
Through [the practice rounds], I was able to refine my
debate skills in the areas I needed it most. The instruction
was unparalleled. -Elizabeth K. | Iowa
Everyone in the [camp] was very helpful and kind to
me. I had the time of my life, and I will never forget it.
It was awesome! -Andrea R. | Florida
Great Campuses with Superior Amenities
Capitol's 2013 Public Forum Institute
will bring together an exciting group of
accomplished coaches from around the
country to work with students ranging from
first year students to championship level stu-
dents. The institute's curriculum will focus on
several major objectives. First, all labs will be
led by experienced head coaches, with recent-
ly graduated debaters assisting at the direction
of the coach in daily activities. Students will
spend large portions of each day working with
these head coaches in drills and practice de-
bates to diagnose weaknesses and develop an
individual plan to improve. Lectures will teach
to the unique challenges of Public Forum as an
event where debaters must persuade a diverse
judging pool, ranging from grandparents to
first-year-outs. With a staff that has been
zealous advocates in shaping the future of
Public Forum, students will also be encour-
aged to consider trends in the event and
how their approach to debate might need
to change in the coming years to remain
successful. Finally, with our proximity to
leading public policy research institutions in
Washington, DC, debaters will enjoy numer-
ous guest appearances by experts on a variety
of potential future topic areas and have
several visits to the nation's capitol.
