Critique: Cairn Terrier Club 5 October 2019

Thank you for inviting me to judge your open show. The hospitality was very friendly and gracious and made me feel most welcome. I was glad to see so many exhibitors who are new to the sport and hope we can all continue to encourage them. I was honoured by exhibitors trusting me with their dogs and delighted to judge the CTC Open Show.

Puppy Dog (No Entries)

Graduate Dog One Entry)

1. Lamb & Saltmarsh. BIRSELAW COME DANCING WITH MACMOON. Pleasing head, nice eye. Ears set well on. Good coat which was well presented. Generally good movement, but could do better on a loose lead.

Limit Dog (Two Entries)

1. Lamb & Saltmarsh. BIRSELAW DARK CHARMER FOR MACMOON ShCM. Attractive head with good stop and nice eye and teeth. Good top line. Tail well set. Good angulation. Nice side movement although a bit close in the rear. Lively and presented well. (Best Dog)

2. Miller. CORNTON DARK CORRIE. Also a nice head and good expression. Nice top line and angulation. Good coat which was well presented. Lovely dog, beaten by one more lively and ring-wise.

Open Dog (One Entry)

1. Miller. CORTON FYN FETTLE. Lovely grey dog with nice dark mask. Good head with good stop. Level top line. Tail well set. Good angulation showed as he moved well. Coat in good condition and well presented. (Reserve Best Dog)

Veteran (Four Entries, One Absentee)

1. Lamb & Saltmarsh. RENSHAW THERE AND BACK AGAIN UNDER MACMOON. (Dog) Lovely nine year old. Well presented. Nice head and good expression. Solid top line and good angulation. Moved well although a bit close in the rear.

2. Aitken & Dickie. AUCHINKYLE DIAMOND DANCER. (Bitch) Nice 7 year old. Skull was a bit narrow and could use a more defined stop. Nice coat which is in good condition and well presented. Could loose a few ounces.

3. Gibbons & Guithrie. SUNNYGLEN TINY TOTTIE. (Bitch)

Special Owner’s Open (Two Entries)

1. Irwin. CORTON MARIE DHU. Lovely young bitch. Nice head with good expression and keen eye. Lovely dark mask. Ears well set. Nice stop. Nice angulation. Good tope line. Needs bodying-up which should come with time. Movement seems good although somewhat difficult to see as she moved on a tight lead. A promising bitch.

2. Aitken & Dickie. AUCHINKYLE DIAMOND DANCER. (See Veteran)

Special New Members Open (Two Entries)

1. McKerrel. VALLETLORD AMERICANO (Bitch). Good head and expression. Nice length of neck. Solid top line. Tail well set. Sporting a good coat. Moved nicely on a fairly loose lead, which helped her win this class.

Puppy Bitch (One Entry, One Absentee)

Junior Bitch (Three Entries, One Absentee)

1. Miller. CORTON EILIDH DHU. Very pleasing bitch. Nice head and expression. Ears well set. Well balanced and proportioned. Good coat and well conditioned. Movement was sound but not very lively. Moved nicely on a loose lead.

2. Irwin. CORTON MARIE DHU. (See Special Owner’s Open). Difficult to see movement on a rather tight lead.

Maiden Bitch (Three Entries)

1. Irwin. CORTON MARIE DHU. (See Special Owner’s Open). Lovely promising bitch with nice coat and well conditioned.

2. McLean. AUCHENCAIRN NOSEY ROSIE. Sound head. Ear set a bit wide. Balanced angulation. Coat wavy and a bit soft. Moved nicely on a very loose lead giving her owner lovely attention.

3. Gibbons & Guithrie. SUNNYGLEN TINY TOTTIE. (See Veteran)

Novice Bitch (Five Entries)

1. Catto. BIRSELAW WALK RIGHT BACK. This young bitch certainly caught my eye. Lovely overall balance. Nice head with good expression and a keen eye. Ears well set. Well bodied and moved true. Coat in very good presentation. This bitch showed nice length of leg and balance on her movement. (Best Bitch, Best in Show)
