Each and every one of you should take a great deal of pride in the success of our 40 th Anniversary Specialty and the National Roving. I think the success of our Specialty is a spe- cial compliment to Jesse Nixon, to whom the show was dedicated. Happy 100 th Birthday Jesse! Kudos are pouring in from our colleagues throughout the coun- try. Once again, our club is being recognized not only for our renown hospitality but for the organization of the show site, the reserved groom- ing spaces, the trophies, the decorations, the ways and means items, the food, the hospitality event, the auction items, the CD…I could go on and on! I’d like to give a special thanks to Anna Mullins, Devon Allen, Connie Monahan, Dawn Gennrich, Linda and Jim Gilcrest, Eileen Bermingham, Susan Comstock, Ron Jones, Di- ana Bullard and Katrina Sussmeier for their work and that of their committees in support of the Spe- cialties. Thanks to all those who donated items for the auction (Bob & Leslie Stewart for 3 of the items), Ways & Means tables, the Foundation raffle as well as the annual raffle and rescue silent auction. Also, we owe a debt of gratitude to Dick Mair for his excellent auctioneer skills that resulted in a fun evening and a tidy profit for our club. There are so many to thank from those who attended to those who helped to set up and tear down the show site including Terry Broderick, John Gennrich, Gary Atkinson, Jeremy Waterman and the Stewarts. Another note of thanks to Ken Kauffmann, Ann Brodie and Pam Davis for their help with the CTCA National Roving as well as Kathy Wishart, Becky Stamps, Anna Mullins, Jack Smith, Boyd Runyan and Linda Heiner for their help and coordination to make the Dr. Senter presentation a reality. In spite of the chilly temperature (a 46 degree high is quite cold for us), about fortyhumans and their Cairns gathered at the Lafayette Community Center for our Janu-ary 2007 program and membership meeting. Devon Allen offered an excellent pro-gram on grooming Cairns with clippers. Even though some Cairn aficionados maysee this as heresy, this technique is very helpful for older and pet Cairns. Devon did aterrific job of teaching and demonstrating the technique on CH. Thistlegate YosemiteSam. Sam was a good little trooper, but gave a sigh of relief when it was over.

After another of those delicious meals enjoyed by Cairnites, particularly the hot chickensoup to warm the bones, a general membership meeting was held. Much of the meetingcentered on the upcoming 40th Anniversary and Specialty for the club as well as theNational Roving Specialty, both being held in February. And, a slate of officers andboard members was presented for consideration by the membership. As usual, theCTCNC members and their Cairns left feeling satisfied with a stimulating program, excellent food, and good fellowship with their two and four legged friends.

WhelpsLori n Le ith & Ot is Ho lt : On December 12th, 2006, we welcomed abeautiful healthy litter of two boys and two girls. Mom is Ch KinLoch's CapscotIsobel, "Bella", and dad is Ch KinLoch's Royal Troon, "Oliver". Mother and pups are

thriving, and the proud "grandparents"are doting on their first Cairn litter. Hav-ing puppies put us in need of a kennelname. Since we live on Calypso Vine-yard (it takes its name from Calypsobulbosa, the little native orchid that livesunder the redwood trees here), we've de-cided that we are now the home of Ca-lypso Cairns.

were tons of ghost orbs on photos; not only from my cam-era, but from others’ as well. Was it Sandy coming backfor a last show? Patrick coming to see how it went?Connie’s parents coming to say hello and stand near her?Maybe Clare coming to watch Nancy show? I’d like tothink it was all of them in a Heavenly contingent wishingus well and sharing our 40th Anniversary Specialty!

Just prior to the Holidays, I was preparing anapple crisp. I love to use the Apple /Peeler /Corer!!

Well, I peeled the 1st apple, went to remove thecore from the apple holder, it came off with the3 prong metal holder. It fell onto the floor. Atthis point , my "cook’s helper" Sinbad, snatchedit up and swallowed it whole, metal prong andall.

We had a rush trip to the vet in Minden (a 20minute ride on a Sunday evening). He advisedus to fill Sinbad's stomach with a can of dogfood prior to coming over.

After X-rays, he decided that it could not comeup and would have to be removed surgically. Andsince he now had a full tummy, that couldn't bedone until the following day. After $1300 and4 days at hospital, Sinbad is fine and we havethe machine part back (sterilized, of course!!)

INMEMORYOF

CH. SANDPIPER(1991-2007)

Sire: Ch. Sharolaine’s Kalypso Dam: Ch. Loch Katrine Lady Meghan“SANDY”

On February 12, 2007, Sandy joined Scarlet on the “rainbow bridge”. Sandy reallywanted to be in our lives. We went to pick up Scarlet when she was 12 weeks old, and

Sandy kept pulling on our pant legs as if to say “take me; look how cute I am”. And, therest is history. People thought we were crazy for getting two puppies at the same time.It was one of the best decisions we ever made. Sandy was not only a beautiful exampleof a Cairn but a loving, sensitive companion and friend. As Tammy Philbin once said:

“Sandy could be an ambassador for Cairn Terriers”. As sick as he was, each morning hegreeted us with a tail wag and a kiss. His spirit will live on in our hearts and in the lives

of his sons and daughters.Sandy, thank you for being persistent and wanting to be in our lives. Thank you for thelove, the warm nose, and the soft licks. Run through the fields, chase the birds and the

water, and be sure to meet us on the “rainbow bridge” when our time is over.
