Specification Check List

Selecting the correct gear is much less complicated than

many people believe. It is important to follow a number of

simple steps to ensure that the necessary information is

available for the project to be completed safely and

efficiently. Following the questions and points for

consideration in Section One below will help you find the

right gear on the Product Selector Chart on page 4. Section

Two will help you to ensure that you have covered the

elements required for a satisfactory installation of a Top

Hung door whilst Section Three covers Bottom Rolling

applications. The notes are intended for guidance only.

Full information and assistance is available upon request.

TRACK LENGTH twice opening width in straightsliding applications.

BRACKETS choose side fixing for wall mountingor soffit fixing if to the underside of a lintel.

HANGERS available for timber or metal doors. Itis important to note that on a straight sliding system

only 2 weight carrying hangers must be used on each

leaf. Different hangers are required if folding gear is

being used.

BOTTOM GUIDING is usually achieved by usingguides filled to the bottom of the door running in a

floor channel. Alternative guiding methods for lighter,

straight sliding doors are well illustrated on page 13.

DOOR FURNITURE is required to suit theapplication. Remember that Flush Handles will be

needed if the doors are required to pass or if they are

to slide into a cavity.

DOOR STOPS are required for all straight slidingdoors.

HINGES & BOLTS will be required if foldingdoors are being specified.

WEATHERHOODS should be specified if anexternally hung door.

LOCKING ARRANGEMENTS as required.

INTERIOR or EXTERIOR?

STRAIGHT SLIDING or FOLDING? - remember that a straight sliding application will need a track length of twice

the width of the door (and clear space along the wall for the door to slide).

TOP HUNG or BOTTOM ROLLING? - in most cases Top Hung is preferred as floor obstructions can be minimised

or avoided. Bottom Rolling is essential when the structure of the building is unable to support a Top Hung system.

a Trackset containing all the necessary components (except, in some cases, door furniture).

TOP HUNG AND BOTTOM ROLLING DOORSDESIGN Straight walls, generous corner radii and specially designed flat

tread to give increased life and to match trolley wheels.

MATERIAL Tubular trolley tracks and top guide tracks are manufactured

from cold rolled galvanised steel to BS EN 10142. Track lengths normally

1.8m to 3.0m. (For longer lengths see price list.)

CARRYING CAPACITIES All tracks have been exhaustively tested, in

conjunction with track brackets, to establish realistic carrying capacities.

Track bracket spacings must not exceed 900mm. Capacities shown are for

normal manual installations consult Hillaldam Coburn for all unusual

and mechanically operated doors.

Floor Channels And Bottom Tracks

FULL SIZE SECTIONSA comprehensive range of floor channels and bottom tracks in steel,

aluminium and brass. Lengths1.8m to 3.0m (44-1 to 4.0m).

STEEL FLOOR CHANNELS Manufactured from cold rolled

galvanised material. Available as extras are lugs for concrete and

connecting shoes to ensure perfect alignment. 45-1 channel

incorporates built-in lugs which grip concrete along its entire length.

BRASS CHANNELS AND TRACKS Normally supplied drilled and

countersunk for screw fixing direct into timber cill or threshold.

STEEL BOTTOM TRACKS For bottom rolling doors. Fixing direct

into concrete, connecting shoes ensure perfect alignment between

DESIGN

Brackets have been designed to perform to all maximum

carrying capacities shown in this catalogue under all

normal conditions. For unusual and mechanically

operated doors consult HILLALDAM COBURN.

MATERIALS

All brackets are either aluminium, forged or pressed steel.

Upper parts of single and double laterally adjustable

brackets are from malleable iron. Cast iron is never used.

SINGLE TRACK SIDE FIXING BRACKETS

Type -100 Open brackets -051 Closed end piece to convert

2-100 & 3-100 open brackets to any hand of closed end. 3-

007 Closed end piece to convert 3-105 open bracket to any

hand of closed end. 4-051 Closed end piece to convert 4-

100 open bracket to any hand of closed end. -002 Lock

joint plate to convert 2-100, 3-100 and 8-100 open

brackets to lock joint brackets. 3-106 Lock joint bracket for

3-25 track. 4-102 Lock joint bracket for 4-30 track.

UNIVERSAL SOFFIT FIXING BRACKETS

Type -150 Open bracket. -051 Closed end piece to convert

open bracket to any hand of closed end. -152 Lock joint

bracket.

JOINT AND END BRACKETS

All types of brackets employ set screw jointing devices and

are available with closed end plates to blank off the ends of

track runs. The 100 series of brackets for 2-16, 3-20 and 8-

25 tracks have a detachable lock-joint kit to convert the

ordinary plain bracket, and most types of brackets for 2-16,

3-20, 3-25 and 4-30 tracks have detachable end plates

which convert plain brackets to any hand of closed end.

FINISH

All steel and malleable iron brackets are supplied plated.

of each track run and brackets with lock-joint plates at

each track joint. In addition intermediate open brackets

are required on each track length to maintain the

All Foldaside and Centafold systems require an extra

bracket where the concentrated weight of the folded doors

is carried in the open parked position. For alternative

Maximum door leaf width 1m (3 ft 3ins)




Cornaway top track curves should be supported with

lock-joint brackets at each end and one open bracket in the

centre of the curve.

Brackets with closed end pieces should be fitted at the end

of each track run and brackets with lock-joint plates at

each track joint.

Separate channel lugs are required with 44-1 Floor

channels see schedule page 12. Channel connecting shoes

should be used at all channel joints to ensure perfect

alignment.

With all systems additional, intermediate open brackets are

required on each track length to maintain the bracket centres

at a maximum of 900mm. The number of intermediate open

brackets per track length are scheduled below;

1.8m Track Length = 1 intermediate open bracket

2.1m Track Length = 2 intermediate open brackets
