Over the past few weeks we have also held a range of parent morning teas and also our regular sub- commiee meengs as part of our School Council. This will be done at the very end of the previous term so look out for the Term 4 version in the next couple of weeks. As a parent of primary aged students who aend a DEECD school, I understand some of the pressures and drain on fam- ily finances with what oſten seems like a constant trail of noces, permission forms and requests for payments. Debbie also does wonderful work seng up TryBook- ings for all of our school events and supporng the work of our PTA. Faye Pae – Our very knowledgeable Business Man- ager who ensures that our school finances are organ- ised and all of the correct processes (of which there are many!) are followed. Both Debbie and Faye also play a significant role managing the many HR (Human Resources) funcons for our busy school and staff. Kim Del Tito – Our First Aid Nurse who cares for our ill and injured children which at the moment is tracking at over 100 a week! Kim does an amazing job in a very busy and demanding environment. The Bulletin Message from the Principal

Hi Kew and welcome to the bulletin for this week.

It has been a big few weeks at KPS and we still have

lots to look forward to as we finish off the term. Next

week is planning week. This time allows for our

teaching teams to have a day together organising

the literacy, maths and inquiry planners for next

term. Once again there will be a high level of learn-

ing and activity throughout the term and much focus

will also be placed on transition and getting ready for

2015. (Please see the first version of our Term 4 cal-

endar with this bulletin).

Over the past few weeks we have also held a range

of parent morning teas and also our regular sub-

committee meetings as part of our School Council.

These are all great opportunities to provide feed-

back, hear more about our future plans and contrib-

ute to how our school runs. One suggestion that we

will adopt is effectively communicating to our par-

ents and carers what events and fundraisers are

coming up each term. This will be done at the very

end of the previous term so look out for the Term 4

version in the next couple of weeks. As a parent of

primary aged students who attend a DEECD school, I

understand some of the pressures and drain on fam-

ily finances with what often seems like a constant

trail of notices, permission forms and requests for

payments. Improving our communication around

this will assist everyone to know what is coming up

and being able to plan ahead.

EDUCATION SUPPORT STAFF

One of the most important roles in our school is the

work that each of our Educational Support Staff do.

In fact we could not achieve what we do without

their commitment, knowledge, skills, dedication and

contributions. I would like to take this opportunity to

acknowledge and say thank you to all of our ES team:

Aisha Ali – one of the friendly faces in our office who

is the first point of contact for parents. Aisha provides

exceptional organisation and efficiency to our whole

school community.

Ruth Woolven – another friendly front line face who

wears two hats at our school. Ruth provides outstand-

ing administrative assistance and also does an amazing

job keeping our library in top shape.

Debbie Capaul – Our Bursar who organises our school

payments and ensures all of our bills are paid on time.

Debbie also does wonderful work setting up TryBook-

ings for all of our school events and supporting the

work of our PTA.

Faye Pattie – Our very knowledgeable Business Man-

ager who ensures that our school finances are organ-

ised and all of the correct processes (of which there

are many!) are followed. Both Debbie and Faye also

play a significant role managing the many HR (Human

Resources) functions for our busy school and staff.

Kim Del Tito – Our First Aid Nurse who cares for our ill and injured children which at the moment is tracking at over 100 a week! Kim does an amazing job in a very busy and demanding environment.

Sally Macallan – One of our Integration Aides who has

made a huge difference to the educational opportuni-

ties for our students.

www.kewps.vic.edu.au Email: [email protected]

Cindy Hartley – Another member of our Teacher Aide team who contributes significantly to the welfare and educa-

tion of students with individual needs.

Mary Woodgate - A member of our Teacher Aide team who contributes so much to the individual students but

also to the whole class she is working with.

Melissa de Melis – A member of our Teacher Aide team who brings a great deal of experience and knowledge and

shares this with our team.

Susanne Wright – A Teacher Aide who works tirelessly with a very challenging group of students. Suzanne always

manages to ensure they are given every opportunity to learn and participate with their peers.

Natalie Grummitt – A very dedicated Teacher Aide who continues to make a massive impact on the quality of

learning experience for individual students.

Mary Diacaris – another committed Teacher Aide who dedicates all of her energy and effort into ensuring the stu-

dents she is working with are provided with the very best opportunities.

Sally Brown – Our Canteen Manager who makes such an amazing array of snacks and lunches for everyone. We

are very lucky to have such a range of quality food to enjoy.

Raj Veeravalli - Our ICT technician who works incredibly hard to make sure our system is working and running as

effectively as possible. We would be lost without Raj’s trouble shooting abilities.

Chab Nadudvari – An often unseen but very much appreciated handyman. It is usually as simple as putting a job on

Chab’s list and it gets done in the blink of an eye!

Thank you to all or Education Support team for your work to support our whole school

community.

LITTLE DEVILS CIRCUS EXTRAVAGANZA – TUESDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER

Well only 12 more sleeps until the big event! Don’t forget to purchase your tickets prior to 9th September. We will

then allocate any unsold tickets to those on our waiting list (and the list is growing!)

There is no set seating arrangements for either concert and we ask that when families take up their seats that you

move all the way along the row and not leave any spaces between yourself and the next family. In this way we can

make sure that everyone with a ticket can get a seat.

We realise it will be a late night for many of our younger students, but we hope that the experience is a special one

that is enjoyed by all! If your child is tired the next day you are most welcome to let them have a sleep in and arrive

at school when they are ready or alternatively they can be picked up early on the Wednesday. An earlier night on

the Sunday or Monday before the big night may also help. We will also ensure that the students who may not be

able to get this opportunity will have a quieter and more relaxed morning than our normal school routine. It will

also be close to the end of the term which allows us to have some relaxed activity in our classrooms. In fact I think

our staff will be very tired as well as we come to the end of a very busy term.

Don’t forget our Term 3 iPad Workshop tonight – 7pm in the BER classrooms. The session will highlight some of the

ways we are using Evernote to capture student learning and present this in a digital portfolio.

Be Worthy!

Principals Day Friday 5th September 2014

Principal’s Day is supported by the Victorian Principal’s Association, and represents an opportunity for Kew Primary School to recognize the valuable leadership provided at our school. James Penson our Principal is in his first year at Kew and has already made a significant contribution through the leadership he has shown in balancing the needs of students, teachers, parents and the broader community. As School Council President I have appreciated the collaborative, open and transparent way that James has gone about implementing a number of initiatives to improve student learning outcomes and support open and transparent communication. James has been well supported by Robin Grace, Assistant Principal whose enthusi-asm and love of learning is infectious. Kew Primary is a unique school with a diverse range of students, wonderful teachers and educators and supportive parents. Nelson Mandela once said ”Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” and we are on that path at Kew. On behalf of School Council, the teachers and the school community, I would like to pass on our thanks to James and Robin for their wonderful leadership and support. Julie Coleman

TAKE HOME A BIG BROTHER OR BIG SISTER

Give your children the wonderful opportunity to have an international big brother or big sister by volunteering to host one of our exceptional international students arriving in Australia in February 2015 for their 3,5, or 10 month programs. Our international stu-dents from France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Japan and USA will live as a local, attend a local secondary school, arrive with their own spending money, and comprehensive insurance cover, all arranged by Southern Cross Cultural Exchange. You choose the nationality, the gender, the duration and the interests of the student that you feel is the best match for your family. Visit us at www.scce.com.au, email [email protected] or call us toll free on 1800 500 501, request our interna-

Kew District Athletics

The Kew District Athletics competition was held at Bill Sewart Athletics track on Friday the 29th August. Our team

competed with confidence due to students attendance at training held at school. For some this training was aug-

mented on weekends with parents and carers. Kew Primary boys were the boys District Athletics champions and

Kew Primary finished 4th overall. A big thank-you to all teachers that assisted on the day and at training.

Congratulations to the following Kew Primary Students who have progressed to the Boroondara Division Athletics
