Hope everyone has had a good term so far – time is flying!

This year, Warwick SU is providing lots of exciting opportunities for postgrads on campus. Firstly, we have established the Postgraduate Association, which is a represent-ative body for PG students. We held our first meeting on Thursday of Week 4, where we discussed both academic and non-academic issues and appointed a PGR rep and Social Secretary. Look out for more information coming soon!

There is also a new Postgrad night at the SU. The Saturday Session runs in The Terrace Bar every other Saturday, and features a live, stripped-back acoustic act plus a mix of music from blues to rock & roll. The next one is on 3rd November (Week 5) from 9pm til late – see you there!

Lastly, the US Elections are taking place on Tuesday 6th November, so if you are interested in US politics then head over to the Atrium for live coverage right through the night!

intro • news in brief • kenilworth bonfire & fireworks - saturday week 5

kenilworth bonfire & fireworks – sat week 5On Saturday 3rd November, Kenilworth Round Table will be holding their 25th annual Bonfire & Fireworks Display in the grounds of Kenilworth Castle. This is one of the biggest and most spectacular events of its kind in the Midlands, and always worth attending to ensure you celebrate Bonfire Night in style!

We are selling tickets on behalf of the Round Table at face value via the SU website and SUHQ Reception – please note

that you’ll need to make your own way there and back, as well as pick up a physical ticket from Reception ahead of the event.

Gates open at 5:30pm, and last admission will be 6:45pm.

news in briefan update on ‘wileygate’A massive thank you to everyone for their patience and understanding regarding refunds for the cancelled Wiley show – these have now been processed to all the relevant credit/debit cards, and refunds on cash purchases can be collected from SUHQ Reception. If you have a Freshers Pass, don’t forget that in addition to Week 3’s Pressure and Week 4’s The Exchange, this is also valid for our new retro night, Flashback, in Week 7 – for more details, see the next issue of this fine publication!

postgrad drop-in sessions wednesdays at 2pmIf you’re a postgraduate student, every Wednesday during term-time the SU runs an informal drop-in session over in the PG Hub (based in Senate House, next to the Arts Centre) from 2pm - 3:30pm. Here you’ll have a chance to chat with the SU’s Postgraduate Officer, Anna Chowcat, about any issues relating to postgraduate life at Warwick, raise your questions and concerns, get advice or air your ideas about how we can improve the postgrad experience. There’s no need to book, just drop in – we look forward to seeing you there!

societies surgery thursdays at 1pmThe SU’s Societies Officer, Silkie Cragg, also holds a weekly surgery where you can get advice on any aspect of our society provision here at the Union. If you’re interested in setting up a new society, have some ideas about how we can improve your student experience through clubs and societies or simply want to find out more about what’s on offer, pop along between 1pm-2pm on Thursdays outside The Bread Oven. As always, you can also find loads of info online or join up any time via www.warwicksu.com/societies!

indoor markets every friday during termDon’t forget that the SU holds its weekly Indoor Market in the Atrium

between 11am - 4pm every Friday during term-time, featuring a range of local traders offering everything from CDs and DVDs to clothing and jewellery. Come along and pick up a bargain!

(In the meantime, if you’re still in the mood for a bit of gratuitous Wiley-bashing, do take a moment to check out WTV’s hilarious “interview” with the man over on Youtube…)
