Whether it’s locally to the University or nationally to the Government, we’re here to represent students’ interests. Warwick SU is committed to the idea of education for all, regardless of background - if it’s a question of the quality of education, or access to it, there are a number of ways you can get involved to help us work towards this ideal.

On 9th November we’ll be joining thousands of other students from across the country for a national demonstration in London against rises in tuition fees and the deep cuts to higher education. You can book your place on a coach by visiting www.warwicksu.com/demo2011.

Through the Warwick SU Inspire scheme, we’re also providing you with the opportunity to engage with local schools in a drive to raise pupils’ aspirations and encourage them to progress to higher education. You can apply now via our website: www.warwicksu.com/inspire.

Something else students are passionate about is raising money for charity. RAG week (Week 7) is a fantastic way to do that while having fun at the same time. Start thinking of weird and wonderful things you want the RAG animals to deliver to your unsuspecting lecturer!

national demo wednesday week 6On 9th November, Warwick SU will be taking a coach to the National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts Demo in London. The march will build on the student activism that started last year with the introduction of £9000 fees and has continued since, in response to the widespread cuts to higher education.

We believe that free education is a right and have democratically passed policy which mandates us to act. We

must continue to stand in opposition to cuts and fees. To find out more and to book your seat on the coach (£5 per person)

head to www.warwicksu.com/demo2011.

news in brieffreshers events - facebook photosAs requested, we’ve been sifting through the mountains of photos taken at various events over the first few weeks of term, and have uploaded some of the best ones to our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/warwicksu). Whether you Paint Partied it up, high-fived Zane Lowe or got your shirt & tie on for Skool Dayz, head on over and get tagging!

warwick debating union thursday week 6There’ll be another chance to get your argumentative boots on in Week 6 as the Debating Union returns to the Atrium to ponder the motion: “This house would withdraw from the EU”. As always, everyone’s welcome to come along and participate, regardless of your stance on the issue!

chlamydia testing friday week 7If you missed the G.U.M. Clinic in Week 4, fear not - there will be free chlamydia checks taking place in the venue toilets for anyone who wants to get tested during Week 7’s Top Banana. Remember, it’s better to be safe than sorry!

warwick student cinema all-nighter friday week 7On Friday 18th November, WSC will be offering you the chance to prove your film-viewing mettle as they prepare to go all night.

student activism conference saturday week 7The UK’s biggest ever student activism conference, Making Change Happen 2011, is taking place in London on Saturday 19th November. Whether you’re concerned about education or the environment, public service cuts or poverty,

your local community or global justice, this is the place to learn, share, brainstorm, network and make change happen. It’s free to register – just go to www.nusconnect.org.uk/studentactivism2011.

Get ready for five stupendous movies played back-to-back (Cowboys & Aliens, Back to the Future, Rango, Mean Girls and The Prestige), plus the all-important MYSTERY FILM to be revealed on the night! Check out www.filmsoc.warwick.ac.uk for all the latest info.

rag week - week 7

RAG Week...is back, and this time it’s bigger than ever!

Ever wanted to have a pint in a lecture? Buy a lapdance for your lecturer? Skip the Bread Oven queue by getting your baguette delivered

to you in your seminar? Or maybe just show that special someone just how much they mean with a delivery of an anonymous rose, serenade or a box of

chocolates? Well, RAG Week accommodates all these things!

Visit our stand from 9-5 in the Atrium every day in Week 7, tell us what you want, where you want it and at what time, and we’ll do the rest!

It’s not just gifts that we offer though - RAG Week is the perfect opportunity for you to get your own back on that hall-mate who never does the washing up or returns home late and sets off the fire alarm. If you can find out their lecture timetable, you can book a “gnoming” - we’ll go to their lecture, drag them outside in front of their whole class, cling-film them to a tree and throw flour, water and baked beans over them. It promises

to be a messy week!

We have plenty of daytime and evening events too, from our all-you-can-eat Pizza event to Scavenger Hunts, RAG Pub Quiz, Traffic Light TOP B, and a special POP!

where you can gunge your mates for charity.

Join RAG for free!

duck soupWe’re delighted to announce that The Dirty Duck’s own specially-brewed ale, Duck Soup, has won Gold in the SIBA Midlands beer competition - beating competition from no fewer than 68 other bottled beers!

The ale was created and blended by local brewery the Warwickshire Beer Co, who worked in partnership with us to develop this award-winning popular real ale.

It’s not just tasty, it’s certified tasty - make sure you head up to The Dirty Duck and treat yourself to a pint!

olympic torchOn Wednesday of Week 3, we welcomed the one and only Olympic Torch to campus for an afternoon of festivities.

Hundreds of you came along to have your picture snapped with the torch and watched performances, exhibitions and displays from numerous different sports clubs.

Thanks to everyone who was involved in making the day such a success, and to YOU for taking part!

presents the one to watchThe One To Watch makes a return this year! The One To Watch is a series of videos produced by Warwick TV highlighting one Sports Club and their activities each week.

So far Athletics and Lacrosse have been featured, and you can see their photos and videos on the Warwick SU and Warwick Sport websites under ‘One To Watch’. The project is a great way to keep up with the success stories of Team Warwick, as well as providing the extra support and recognition that our teams deserve!

You can apply to be One To Watch at www.warwicksu.com/sports/onetowatch - this is a valuable means of promoting your club on campus, especially if you are looking to pick up awards at the end of the year.

Look out for articles in The Bubble, The Boar and online throughout the year, as well as videos around the SU - here’s to another massive year of Sport!

get involvedstudent arts festivalFeeling creative? Harbour a passion for the arts? We are looking for a pair of students to coordinate a new-look Arts Festival for the end of Term 3. Two people preferred, but individual applications will be considered. These candidates will be expected to come up with an exciting programme of events across all the arts and showcase the immense talent we have here at Warwick.

Following the first Union Council meeting of the year, we’ve set up a Democracy Review Working Group to look at how we represent you and to make Democracy as good as it can be. We’re focusing on making it ‘simple’, ‘accessible’ and ‘relevant’ and will be looking for student input - if you’ve got feedback, get in touch via [email protected]

The application deadline is Monday 14th November (Wk 7), with interviews taking place towards the end of Week 7. Apply and end your year with a bang! [email protected]
