The Brain!!Put this through your head!
THREE LAYERS!
Layer ONE: The Brain Stem
The Brain Stem
Cerebellum
7 main parts:
•Medulla
•Pons
•Reticular Formation
•Thalamus
•Pituitary Gland
•Midbrain
•Cerebellum
The medulla is in charge of regulating basic body functions such as breathing, blood pressure, and heart rate.
The Brain Stem
Cerebellum
The pons is in charge of brain activity during sleep, such as dreaming.
The Brain Stem
Cerebellum
The reticular formation is responsible for keeping the mind and body awake and aware. The nerve wires come up from the spinal cord through the reticular formation into the thalamus.
The Brain Stem
Cerebellum
The thalamus is not only in the center of the brain, but it is also the main relay station of the brain. All the senses go through the thalamus, and it helps process everything going on.
The Brain Stem
Cerebellum
The Brain Stem
Cerebellum
Controlled by the hypothalamus. The only endocrine system structure in your body that is in the brain. The pituitary gland sends out hormones.
The Brain Stem
Cerebellum
The cerebellum is in charge of coordinated movements.
The Brain Stem
Cerebellum
The midbrain helps process the auditory and visual information.
THREE LAYERS!
Layer TWO: The Limbic System
The Limbic System3 main parts:
• Hippocampus
• Amygdala
• Hypothalamus
The Limbic System
The hippocampus is in charge of creating long term memories.
The Limbic System
The amygdala is in charge of emotion. The amygdala may also be associated with memory for when we remember something that is very emotional to us.
The Limbic System
The hypothalamus is important and in charge of keeping our body temperature and fluid levels balanced. When the hypothalamus detects an imbalance, it orders the body to tell our body what we need.
THREE LAYERS!
Layer THREE: The Cerebral
Cortex
The Cerebral Cortex
4 main parts:
• Frontal lobe
• Parietal lobe
• Temporal Lobe
• Occipital lobe
The Cerebral CortexThe frontal lobe is in charge of movement and thinking. This is where our motor cortex is and our prefrontal cortex is. The motor cortex helps control voluntary movements and the prefrontal cortex is used for decision making.
The Cerebral CortexThe parietal lobe is in charge of touch sensation. This is what helps us feel things. This lobe also creates a map of your body so your brain knows where the sensation is coming from.
The Cerebral Cortex
The temporal lobe is in charge of the auditory processes. It also may be connected in storing long term memories that have a auditory connection.
The Cerebral CortexThe occipital lobe is used for processing visual information.
How does it
all work???
