Twin Vee PowerCats, Inc. has been building power catamaran boats in South Florida since 1994, beginning with small dinghies that were stable, safe and undaunted by tropical squalls.

Twin Vee developed progressively larger boats up to the present day OceanCat 360 SE. Every Twin Vee model has been designed in the same painstaking way, by experimenting with full-size prototype hulls until the maximum performance advantages were achieved.

Twin Vee has a loyal following of anglers and recreational boaters,

SEAwOrThInESSThe twin hulls (or sponsons) of power catamarans are narrower than the single hull of a mono-hull boat. This provides superior wave handling, especially in rough seas. The narrow twin hulls cut through waves like a pair of parallel knives as opposed to floating over them like a spoon. As a result, power catamarans offer a smooth, dry ride and tend to remain directed where you point them rather than being buffeted around.

STAbILITyA catamaran’s widely spaced twin sponsons distribute buoyancy to the outside edges of the boat, unlike precariously centered mono-hulled boats. This provides much greater stability, whether running or idling. Power catamarans are less susceptible to careening in heavy seas and will not list appreciably while stationary, no matter how the passengers move about.

COST-EffICIEnCyPower catamarans are easy on the pocketbook because they generate about one-third as much drag, providing better fuel efficiency and requiring less power to maintain the equivalent cruising speed of a mono-hull. The big savings comes from the ability to purchase smaller, less expensive engines for the same level of performance.

SAfETyWith less drag, power catamaran hulls need less power to get up on a plane. Twin-engine power catamarans can reach cruising speed on a single engine, greatly increasing one’s options to safely and expediently return to dock after an engine failure. Power cats also throw very little wake, but easily cut through large wakes of other boats without dangerous jarring to occupants.

MAnEuVErAbILITyTwin engines are rigged at the aft end of each catamaran sponson. With this wide engine placement, the motors can easily be cross-clutched to turn the boat within its own length while docking. At full speed, power catamarans can execute tight turns without tilting dramatically. It’s almost like driving a sports car.

uSAbILITyPower catamarans have a very shallow draft because the bulk of the boat is widely distributed between the two sponsons. They are ideal for maneuvering in shallow waters, near sand bars and close to beaches where a typical mono-hull would run aground. Power catamarans also have a wider beam and more usable deck space than comparably sized mono-hull boats. This means that you have more room to move around, especially at the square-shaped bow and wide stern.

Twin Hull AdvantagesMany boaters tend to think of power catamarans as unusual boats with limited appeal. The surprising reality

is that mono-hulled boats are functionally more limiting. They require a specialized hull type for each unique boating environment: deep-V hulls for offshore boating, flat-bottomed boats for shallow water, or

variations of modified-V hulls for performance and efficiency. Power catamarans can handle all of these scenarios, and more, with ease. here’s why:

As one of the world’s foremost martial arts practitioners, Bruce Lee understood the powerful nature of water. “Water can flow or it can crash.” The beauty of power catamaran design is that it uses martial arts-like engineering principles to pit the flow of water against the crashing power of waves.

As a Twin Vee PowerCat moves through the water, the lifting strakes on the inside of each sponson shoot water inward and up between the twin hulls to form two counter-rotating vortexes of super-aerated water. These hydro-vortexes have angular and linear momentum that reduce drag and improve directional stability. As the boat moves forward, this accumulation of air and water is compressed, creating energy and mass that provide a strong cushion against wave pounding. Increasing speed actually makes a Twin Vee ride smoother and handle better.

An Obsession with Seamanship

The gunnels receive the most abuse over the life of a boat. Twin Vee’s unique rolled gunnel construction seamlessly connects the cap across the entire hull with structural bonding adhesive and stainless steel through-bolts to create a single, strong uni-body structure.

Twin Vee hulls are constructed very much like large rigid life preservers. After rigging tubes are in place, the sponsons are filled with closed-cell foam and sealed against water entry by the Fab Deck, which is solidly connected to and directly supported by the tunnel of the twin hulls.

Twin Vee hulls are also self-bailing, allowing water to flow out the stern of the boat in extreme conditions. These features make Twin Vee boats durable for a lifetime and essentially unsinkable.

uni-body Strength

The Twin Vee manufacturing process begins with hand-laid, solid-laminated fiberglass hulls designed and constructed for solid durability, but the quality doesn’t stop there. Twin Vee uses only top marine suppliers and specifies all fittings, standard equipment and accessories for strength and resistance to corrosion. Fittings are made of stainless steel; stern eyes, anchor rollers and even the steering wheel are 316 grade stainless steel.

Twin Vee’s marine equipment suppliers include Ritchie Voyager compasses, Standard Horizon Vhf, SeaStar hydraulics, Taco Marine, Shurflow bait well pumps, Lewmar anchor systems and other quality companies. Quality Construction

Twin Vee PowerCats, Inc. has been manufacturing its unique power catamarans in Florida for 23 years. In 1997, Twin Vee moved from Miami to Ft. Pierce, Florida, a town with a long tradition in the marine industry.

The company was purchased in 2015 by Joseph Visconti and now trades under the symbol TVPC. As the new CEO, Visconti has invested in new manufacturing technology that will augment the company’s traditional hand-built process. Twin Vee’s entire line is being updated with many new standard features and the newly refurbished factory is set to deliver boats at a record pace.

“We’re building two things at once here,” says Visconti. “We’re building a dream boat and the American Dream for everyone who works at Twin Vee. So we’re proudly calling it ‘The American Dream Boat.’”
