WHAT IS THE BBFC?FIRSTLY BBFC STANDS FOR BRITISH BOARD OF FILM CLASSIFICATION. THE BBFC IS THE UK’S REGULATOR FOR FILMS AND THEY CLASSIFY A FILM WITH THE APPROPRIATE AGE RATING.

THE DIFFERENT RATINGS THAT THE BBFC GIVE ARE AS FOLLOWS

This rating is suitable for everyone to view. These films should create a positive mood and should not involve any violence, threat or horror.

A PG rating is a film in which a child under the age of 8 should have parent guidance because the content in these films could upset or scare children of younger ages. Films classified 12A and 12 contain material that is not suitable for children aged under 12. No one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. Adults planning to take a child under 12 to view a 12A film should consider whether the film is suitable for that child. No one younger than 15 may see a 15 film in a cinema. No one younger

than 15 may rent or buy a 15 rated video work. These films can contain violence, swearing and sexual references.

No one younger than 18 may see an 18 film in a cinema. This is due to the graphic and content that will be included in theses films. These include horrors, crime and sexual films.
