Greetings Valencia Bay, Happy New Year, 2018 will see many changes and improvements to the tennis and pickleball program.

TENNIS On Friday, January 19, 2018, I will host a Progressive Doubles Challenge Round Robin and Pizza Party, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. $20 per person, all levels welcome, and the registration fee includes the round robin, tennis balls, a dinner of pizza, salad, and refreshments. Let’s make this an evening to remember!

In February I would like to invite you to attend the Delray Open professional tennis tournament February 16-February 25, 2018. There is the Grand Slam Tennis Dinner on Tuesday, February 19, 2018. The details are still in the works but I promise you that you will enjoy great food and great tennis right in our own back yard!

The Miami Open in Key Biscayne, Florida, another fantastic professional event takes place March 19- April 1, 2018. I am organizing a bus trip for Valencia Bay. There are several ticket packages available and as soon as I have all the details I will forward that information to you. The package price includes round trip transportation to Key Biscayne, stadium seat, and snacks and refreshments on the bus.

PICKLEBALL I am pleased with the growth of the pickleball group and in November I hosted two pickleball evaluation sessions. There is a need to identify the different levels of play in order to properly promote and accommodate new players moving into Valencia Bay, league play, and instructional programs. I have enlisted the assistance of Keith Kovach, a certified pickleball instructor and pickleball provider, to assist me with the pickleball program. Additional evaluation sessions are forthcoming as well as clinics for new players to advanced players. If you have not tried the game, please stop by the pro shop for additional information and we will gladly get you started.

Valencia Bay has entered a mixed team in the Palm Beach County Pickleball league. Play begins in January and I am excited to have a team entered in our first year! The matches are scheduled for Saturday morning beginning mid-January, 2018, so come on out and cheer on your neighbors!

Regards,Phil Flanagan, Sports Director

The V Bay Stitchers have created and donated over 40 little red hats to Jupiter Hospital in support of this program. Every baby born during the month of February in that hospital will receive a little red hat.

Currently, the V Bay Stitchers are creating small sweaters for the Comfort Bear program, sponsored by Sheep Thrills, a yarn store in Lauderhill. The store donates stuffed bears to the police department, to give to children who are in distress. They like the bears to be dressed, so they ask for volunteers to knit and crochet small bear sweaters. The V Bay Stitchers are happy to participate.
