President’s Message:
Dear members and friends of CMC BPW,
I was hoping for the ultimate glass ceiling to be smashed last night but the people
have spoken and it's not meant to be. BPW never endorses candidates in any
elections but we do keep you up to date on matters most effecting women and their
families. With a Republican President and Congress, we will have to get involved
more than ever before so we can maintain certain rights and push for others to be
given to us. Let's support our Legislative committee as they keep us posted on bills
and laws that impact our daily life.
Our WOTY event last month was AMAZING and packed with many of Judge
Cheryl Lynne Austin's family and friends. She is our favorite glass ceiling smasher!
I was deeply touched that her Honor spoke about how if not for BPW, she would
have had no support in her Navy and early work career. She had to let go of her
CMC membership once she took an elected position but she remains dedicated to
our causes and a true inspiration to us all.
On November 9th
, Ray and I meet up with our newest student member, Alexis
Werner, at The National Liberty Museum for her movie premier, Our Way Home.
She started a not for profit as a young teen to honor veterans with PTSD after she
saw how it changed her step father and their family. The BPW initiative Women
Joining Forces continues to be supported by us through our continued involvement
with Mary Walker House and Norristown Vet Center.
At our meeting next Thursday, we are welcoming back Karen Alder with Premier
Design jewelry for a fashion show fundraiser and we are setting up early for a Bling
Happy Hour show for those who want to shop but may not be able to stay for dinner
program. Please come early, invite a friend and have a glass of wine with me for
my birthday.
I can't attend the Philadelphia walk to end Alzheimers this Saturday but we can
support our September speaker, Katie Macklin, and her team of walkers.
Information is on our Facebook page and in this newsletter. Last month, Barb
Maresca, Cheryl Decoteaux and I met up at Cranaleith Sanctuary to see the home
that gave refuge to Susan B. Anthony and other Suffragists become a historic

Thank You from Judge Cheryl Austin Hi Barbara Jean,
To this day I remain "emotionally elevated" over the very wonderful
acknowledgement on Thursday night. The women of BPW really know
how to make a person feel special: the flowers, gift, citations -they are all
very meaningful to me.
All of my friends were extremely impressed with the BPW Collect. Your
actions illustrate that it is a way of life and not just a mantra.
Please relay to all BPW members my sincere gratitude for their love and
kindness to me, my family and friends.
I am especially grateful to you, Barbara Jean, for all of your efforts.
Please give Gary my condolences on the loss of his mother. My thoughts
and prayers are with you and your family during this time of bereavement.
With love, Cheryl
Get $100 when you get 10 supporters using Benefit Mobile! It really is easy to sign up and basically you are purchasing online gift
cards to give away digitally (there is no physical card issued) OR use the
gift card for your own online daily, year-round shopping. The list of
vendors has grown and if 10 CMC members sign up for the mobile app
and use it for a purchase before 11/30, we earn $100! I plan on buying
some Starbucks and Walmart cards to use for myself! Don't be jealous,
my Christmas shopping is already done! Our club is listed as Central
Montgomery County BPW, Group ID is 229829. There is information on
our CMC Facebook page and will be added to the CMC website soon.
Please ask friends and family to join too.
Thank you,

Vision 2020 – Into Action: Women and the Political
Process The Lansdale Branch of AAUW is holding a program on Tuesday,
November 15th
at the Montgomery Township Community and
Recreation Center, 1030 Horsham Road, North Wales PA.
6:30 pm Social Time, 7:00 pm Business Meeting, 7:30 pm Program.
Vision 2020 is a coalition of more than 90 national and regional
organizations representing over 22 million people and women leaders
across the country. Vision 2020 ignited an American Coversation on
Women and Leadership in 2010. Its goal is to achieve shared
leadership among women and men in all aspects of American life,
beginning with business and government.
Additional information is available at http://aauwlansdale.org.
To paraphrase Rachel Maddow, “Government and politics is not a
spectator sport. Everybody gets to play.” If we want to protect our
rights and keep programs that are important to us, we need to put more
women in elected positions.
Women and Leadership Forum: Striving and Thriving in the Workplace.
Registration is well underway and you can register below.
Wednesday, December 7, 2016 - 8:00am-2:00pm - The Presidential, East Norriton, PA
The Montgomery County Foundation, Inc. presents a forum focused specifically on equipping us with
hands-on, skills-building "take-aways".
This exceptional learning experience will feature three superb keynote speakers who will address topics
such as emotional intelligence, leadership presence and conflict resolution - with follow-up
programming scheduled in 2017.
What makes this forum uniquely valuable is the opportunity to address each topic as it relates to a
woman's personal well-being and growth and how that most effectively translates to her professional
success and to the strengthening of the field she is committed to serving increasingly well.

Election Day Tradition
There were long lines on Tuesday, November 8th
in Rochester, NY.
Not to vote but to leave hundreds of “I voted” stickers on Susan B.
Anthony’s tombstone in tribute to the women’s suffrage leader.
The cemetery extended its hours for visitors on Tuesday, opening early
at 7:30 a.m. EST and closing at 9 p.m., when polls were set to close in
New York. Some visitors waited for 90 minutes to see the grave of
Anthony, who illegally cast a ballot in the 1872 presidential election in
Rochester and who faced a subsequent criminal trial.
Along with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Anthony founded the National Woman Suffrage Association in 1869 and
was a critical leader in the movement for women’s suffrage, but died 14 years before the 19th Amendment
would give women the right to vote in 1920. (PBS Newshour)
