2014-2015 is a year of transition and implementation

 Districts  are  having  to:      Fully  implement  Florida  State  Standards  across  all  grades  and  subjects      Administer  the  new  Florida  Standards  Assessment      Implement  Local  Assessments  (DDA’s)  to  measure  student  performance  in  grades  and  subjects  not  covered  by  a  statewide  assessment      Implement  a  new  school  grading  system      Implement  a  new  salary  schedule  incorporaFng  student  performance  as  a  major  component  of  compensaFon      Implement,  a  year  early,  the  requirement  that  50  percent  of  the  annual  instrucFonal  materials  allocaFon  be  used  to  purchase  digital  or  electronic  instrucFonal  materials      Expand  the  use  of  technology  in  the  classroom  and  for  online  assessments

Requirements…

Students  must  TAKE  a  variety  of  statutorily  required  statewide  standardized  assessments  and  local  assessments  in  order  to  be  promoted  and/or  parFcipate  and  graduate  from  certain  programs.    These  assessments  include:    Florida  Standards  Assessments  in  English  Language  Arts,  WriFng  and  MathemaFcs;  End  of  Course  Exams  in  Algebra  I,  Geometry,  Algebra  II,  Biology  I,  U.S.  History,  and  Civics;  Assessments  for  parFcipaFon  in  AP,  IB,  AICE,  Cambridge,  Dual  Enrollment,  Industry  CerFficaFon,  and  many  others.      Kindergarten  students  must  TAKE  the  Kindergarten  Readiness  Assessment.      ESE  Students  must  TAKE  the  alternaFve  assessments.      English  Language  Learners  must  TAKE  the  Comprehensive  English  Language  Learning  Assessment  (CELLA).      Other  exams  are  opFonal,  but  some  are  required  to  provide  state  required  data,  some  are  used  to  set  concordant  scores  for  Florida  Standards  Assessments,  and  others  are  required  to  move  forward  in  the  Florida  K-­‐20  educaFon  system.    These  include,  but  are  not  limited  to  PSAT,  ACT,  SAT,  NAEP.      Progress  monitoring  and  formaFve  assessments  are  REQUIRED;  specifically  for  low  performing  schools.      Districts  MUST  administer  an  EOC  for  EVERY  COURSE  AND  GRADE  for  which  there  is  no  statewide,  standardized  assessment  as  required  by  Florida  Statutes.

years    We  make  sure  the  standards  are  the  driving  force  behind  quesFons  that  are  selected  for  our  teacher  created  and  district  created  assessments.      We  cover  different  cogniFve  complexity  levels  on  each  test.

What are DDA’s?

DDA’s  are  District  Determined  Assessments    DDA  is  an  umbrella  term  that  covers  two  types  of  assessments:  •    District  Selected  •    District  Created    District  Selected  –  Discovery  EducaFon  (  K-­‐3),  Advanced  Placement,  IB  (  High  School),  etc,    District  Created  –  These  are  exams  that  we  are  creaFng  within  the  county  to  be  administered    in  any  course  not  assessed  by  the  FSA  or  FCAT  (  Science)

What are DFA’s and EOC’s?

 District  FormaFve  Assessments  (DFA’s)  will  be  administered  to  secondary  students  each  quarter.  The  DFA’s  are  intended  to  monitor  student  progress  guided  by  the  district  curriculum  map.    DFA’s  are  used  to  provide  feedback  to  students.      End  of  Course  Exams  (EOC’s)  are  state  administered  exams  given  at  the  conclusion  of  a  course.    EOC’s  are  administered  in  Algebra  I,  Geometry  and  Civics  at  LPA.

Grading  •  Students  earn  a  standard  test  grade  on  all  district  created  assessments    

(part  of  DDA’s)  •  Students  do  not  earn  a  grade  on  district  selected  assessments,  (part  of  

DDA’s)  but  they  are  oden  used  for  other  purposes  •  End  of  Course  Exams  (  EOC’s)  such  as  Algebra,  Geometry  and  Civics  count  

as  30%  of  a  student’s  grade.      •  District  FormaFve  Assessments  (DFA’s)    will  be  administered  to  secondary  

students  only  during  the  2014-­‐2015  school  year  and  count  as  one  standard  test  grade  each  quarter.    

 Students  do  not  earn  a  grade  on  the  Florida  Standards  Assessment  (FSA)  .    However,  students  must  PASS  the  Reading  PorFon  of  the  Florida  Standards  Assessment  to  be  promoted  to  the  4th  Grade.      Students  must  PASS  the  10th  Grade  Reading  PorFon  of  the  Florida  Standards  Assessment  and  the  Algebra  1  end-­‐of-­‐course  examinaFon  to  be  awarded  a  standard  high  school  diploma.

The Florida Standards and Florida Standards Assessment

The  Florida  Standards  in  MathemaFcs  and  English  Language  Arts  were  approved  by  the  Florida  State  Board  of  EducaFon  in  February  2014  and  will  be  fully  implemented  in  grades  K–12  in  the  2014–2015  school  year.  All  Florida  schools  will  teach  the  Florida  Standards,  and  the  Florida  Department  of  EducaFon  (FDOE)  has  contracted  with  the  American  InsFtutes  for  Research  (AIR)  to  develop  and  administer  new  statewide  assessments.  These  assessments  will  provide  parents,  teachers,  policy  makers  and  the  general  public  with  informaFon  regarding  how  well  students  are  learning  the  Florida  standards.

The Florida Standards and Florida Standards Assessment

 Florida  has  been  transiFoning  to  computer-­‐based  tesFng  since  2010  and  will  conFnue  to  do  so  in  Spring  2015.  American  InsFtutes  for  Research  (AIR)    offers  a  dynamic  computer-­‐based  test  delivery  system.  Students  will  respond  to  items  in  mulFple  ways,  including  creaFng  graphs,  wriFng  short  responses  and  using  other  interacFve  features.  The  various  quesFon  types  are  designed  to  assess  higher-­‐order  thinking  skills  and  offer  exciFng  new  ways  for  students  to  show  what  they  know  and  can  do.

Additional Changes…

 The  new  assessments  requires  addiFonal  Fme–  the  increase  is  from  6.5  to  7.5  hours.    Expanded  grade  levels  –  WriFng  is  expanded  from  4th,  8th  and  10th  Grades  to  4th  through  11th  grades.      LPA  has  been  chosen  to  field  test  the  FSA  WriFng  in  January.

FSA Math Assessments

•  Grades 3 and 4 MATH is all on paper and pencil this year AND next year.

•  Grade 5 will be all on-line this year.

•  Grades 3 -5 will have 2 math sessions of 80 minutes each totaling 160 minutes. There will be a total of 60-64 questions for grades 3, 4, and 5.

FSA Math Assessments

•  Will be all multiple choice, multiple selection, and gridded responses.

•  ALL multiple choice questions have a total of 4 multiple choice options.

•  There will be NO grids on grade 3!

•  Multiple selection items: student must select more than 1 option. There are AT LEAST two correct answers on a multiple selection item.

•  There should NEVER be a 4 choice multiple select item as that would be multiple choice.

The  FSA  portal  will  be  available  for  districts,  schools,  students,  parents  and  the  general  public  to  access  informaFon  about  the  new  assessments.    In  addiFon,  the  portal  will  serve  as  the  primary  locaFon  for  school  and  district  administrators  to  access  resources  for  test  administraFon  and  to  conduct  acFviFes  related  to  computer-­‐based  tesFng,  test  management  and  reporFng.
