THANK YOU for
all you’ve already
provided!
Thank You!
Every time I walk in to our new location, every time I connect
with a new family, every time I consider the friendships of families
long a part of Sadie Rose, I can’t help but think of those of you
who make this possible. Every donation (monetary and material,)
every prayer, every word of encouragement, every volunteer, fills
my heart with immense gratitude. I just wanted to take this space
and moment to thank you once again for making SRF a successful
and important outreach in our community. ~ Regina
Remembering Our Babies Walk
In participation with International Pregnancy and Infant
Loss Awareness for the month of October, SRF will host
our annual “Remembering Our Babies Walk” on
Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, Oct. 15. Meet
on the steps of the Rockingham County Courthouse in
Harrisonburg between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.. We will start
the announcements and walk at 7.
Feel free to decorate small paper bags for luminaries and
bring them with you. (We will limited luminary supplies
on hand at the event as well.) We plan to place the lumi-
naries on the steps of the courthouse before the walk.
We also encourage signs promoting Pregnancy and Infant
Loss Awareness and for our babies!
We will walk around the square several times. Spectators,
one-square walkers, and full participants welcome. This
event is free and open to the public. Please invite your
family and friends!
One-on-one support is available at our office by appointment. Call Regina at 540-810-4351 or
email regina@sadierosefoundation to schedule a time.
We also have several private Facebook groups, one for bereaved parents and one for those
who are pregnant after a loss. This is in addition to our public Facebook page. Feel free to
request to join these groups that apply.

Support Meeting Schedule
October Focus
We are often asked what donated items would help us. We will
suggest a focus each month of an item/items that help in our
support efforts. Items for October: Variety of K cups for the
Keurig coffee maker.
Have you considered attending one of our support group meetings? We know that
taking that first step can be the hardest. Consider asking a friend or family member
to come with you. Another way to lesson the anxiety of showing up for the first time
is to connect with people online in our “Additional Support” section below or on our
online support chat. With the exception of our Miscarriage Support Group, our
groups are open to those who have lost a child of any age. All our meetings are held
at 195 Main Street Dayton, VA 22821. Please let us know how we can best support
you on your grief journey.
What to expect at our
Support Meetings
Currently all support group meet-
ings are held at the Sadie Rose
House 195 Main Street Dayton,
across the street from Dayton
Church of the Brethren. Our be-
reaved parent meetings and be-
reaved family meetings are both fa-
cilitated by Regina Cyzick Harlow.
All our meetings are informal. No
one is expected or required to talk
unless they choose to do so. Most
every meeting begins with casual
conversation. Throughout the meet-
ing, you can expect moments of
tears and times of laughter. Some-
times we talk about our children and
our losses and sometimes we talk
simply as friends. The meetings are
not scripted and sometimes there are
moments of comfortable silence in
the presence of those who under-
stand. Please consider bringing a
friend if that would be helpful.

Worldwide Candlelight
Remembrance Ceremony
SRF hosts an annual candlelight remembrance ceremony to corre-
late with The Compassionate Friends World Wide Wave of Light
to remember children gone too soon. Each group in their respec-
tive time zones light candles at 7 pm the second Sunday of De-
cember to create a 24-hour “wave of light” to honor the memories
of our children. Our ceremony usually includes several readings,
some music and/or dance, a video tribute to children represented
in our organization, and an opportunity for family and friends to
come forward to light a candle for a child. Guests are invited to
bring a snack to share for refreshments following the service. To
submit a photo of your child for the video, send a JPEG
file to [email protected] along with your
child’s name and dates. This year’s service will be Sunday,
December 13, 7 p.m. More details to come!
Annual November Meal: In place of our November Fourth Friday Family Meeting, all groups and
individuals are welcome to join us for a carry-in meal. Gather at the Sadie Rose House around 6
p.m., plan to eat around 6:30. Drinks and table service provided. Bring a dish to share if you can.
Those who wish can make (or bring) ornaments that evening in memory of your child and place it
on our Christmas tree. (For Black Friday shoppers too tired to make it to the November Meal, you
can make or bring an ornament any time before Christmas.)

October 2015
A Call For YOUR Input! Many newly bereaved parents wonder how they will ever make it through the holiday season. If you have a tip or tips to share, please email them to [email protected] (or mail to P.O. Box 382 Dayton 22821.) We will compile and print them in an upcoming newsletter. Also, if you have a specific ques-tion or concern about the upcom-ing holiday season, please send that to us as well and we’ll have group members reply.
We’ve also had parents and surviving siblings dealing with guilt following the death of their child/sibling. They often feel alone in their grief and guilt. We welcome your responses to encourage these families.
Here are questions to consider:
Did/do you struggle with guilt?
What are your strategies for put-ting guilt in its place when it torments you?
How would you encourage a fellow bereaved parent/sibling who is struggling with guilt?
Please send responses to the above contact information. Let us know if you’d like your name included or if you wish to remain anonymous.
