COMMITMENT TO GREATNESS

“The Friars are my family. Most importantly, my commitment is to my players and my team at Providence. I am extremely grateful to Father Brian Shanley, Athletic Director Bob Driscoll, the donors, season ticket holders and fans for all that they have done for me and my family. They have helped make Providence basketball one of the best jobs in the BIG EAST and the country. Their commitment and support with resources and other means has made me realize what a special place Providence College is. Last year, we opened the best practice facility in the country – the Ruane Development Center.”

“Upon reflection over the past couple of years, I’ve realized that cheerleading was a foundational part to my success in work and life. In leadership roles and public speaking, I’ve leaned on my skills from my cheerleading days at PC. “I wouldn’t be able to sum up my experience in just a few sentences, but I can say that having not been a Providence College Cheerleader, I would not be who I am today. And without the support of donors, we would not be able to create half the amount of memories and once-in-a-lifetime experiences that we do every year. I will forever be grateful to have worn Providence across my chest and thankful to the donors for making it all possible.” -Keagan Mackrell ‘20

“The dance team at Providence College is aligned under the athletics department and we have many of the responsibilities of other teams, but we are not funded like other sports teams. Along with cheering and dancing at home basketball games, we also have danced at soccer games, and other sporting events, and we travel for basketball and hockey tournaments. At the end of every year we attend NDA Nationals in Florida where we compete in Division I Jazz and Hip Hop against other schools. PC has finished as high as the top five in the

past. All of this is possible because of successful fundraising. We want to continue our momentum and help grow our program to new heights and that is only possible with donations from people like you. “Three years ago, the athletic department launched ‘You Are Never Alone In Friartown,’ an initiative to raise the level of awareness around mental health, hoping to de-stigmatize the issue with our student-athletes. What started as words on the front of a t-shirt given to all varsity student-athletes has become a culture of awareness, not only within athletics but also across the entire campus. Our student-athletes recognize there is a level of responsibility in wearing this shirt, they respect what it means, and understand that they need to look out for one another. It’s OK to not be OK!” -John Rock ‘22P

“Having met the players over the past several years, we have been impressed by their character and their involvement in the community. As student-athletes, they play for the ‘love of the game,’ to better themselves as individuals, and to prepare for their next step in life. We enjoy watching and supporting them, knowing our support transcends basketball and improves their chances at success after they graduate.” -Steven & Brenda Basson ‘79

“In an age where not all collegiate sports are economically equal, donations are more than ever important to aid sports like swimming and diving in their operations and pursuit of success. Donating is my way of helping

and giving back to a program that impacted my development. I give so that others will have the chance to be part of a team that gave me discipline and showed me how one’s individual performance contributes to the overall success of a team. Those experiences, along with the camaraderie I gained from being part of the swim team and the Providence College community have aided me throughout my career. It is my hope current and future members of the team will walk away with similar experiences. Giving back is my way of thanking Coach O’Neill and the many others who make Providence College swimming possible.” - Joshua Bischoff ’95

“Swimming was important part of my college experience and I am grateful for the opportunity to represent Providence College during my four years as a student-athlete. The Taylor Natatorium was the starting place of some of my most cherished friendships. It was also a place of self-discovery

where I learned about the importance of setting goals, developing a plan to reach those goals, executing the structured plan, and competing under pressure. It is important that the next generation of swimmers has the opportunity to experience this aspect of college - where ‘the clock never lies’ and you learn that it is possible to laugh under water.”- Bridget McKenna Corr ’04

“It is important for me to give back to PC tennis for many reasons. First, athletics at PC taught me the value of teamwork, working with others, and camaraderie. Second, athletics, coupled with my academic experiences, taught me how to manage time while balancing two demanding passions. Lastly, athletics at PC has allowed me to form lifelong relationships with many teammates and a coach with whom I still interact today. I look back at my time at PC with great memories. The academic/athletic experience provided invaluable preparation for my professional career. I strongly urge all alumni to give back to PC, whether it’s one dollar or more. Giving back to PC will enhance many programs and give opportunities to many who otherwise might not have the resources to experience PC.” -Bill Donadio ’82

“Already within my first year in Friartown, I have witnessed firsthand how our donor support has positively impacted our players well beyond our foul lines. Thanks to these investments, our student-athletes have received opportunities to continue their educations over summer and winter breaks and travel as a team throughout the country competing in preseason tournaments in preparation for BIG EAST softball. In addition, they have participated in a variety of leadership and student-athlete development activities, just to name a few of the opportunities donors have made possible.”-Jill Karwoski, Head Coach
