expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly.”

St. Joseph is rightly revered for his contribution to our eternal salvation. He must have been devastated by the news that Mary, his betrothed wife, was pregnant, but not with his child. He knew Mary would not only be shamed, but in a small village like Nazareth, everyone would have known that Joseph was not the father and she was at risk of being stoned to death. Joseph trusted God and believed his assurance, through an an-gel, that Mary had not been unfaithful. He took her into his home and was a loving and caring husband of Mary and father to Jesus. Like Joseph, we face difficult situa-tions and challenges in life that hurt us physically, emo-tionally and spiritually. How we deal with them depends largely on how well we know Jesus by constant reading and reflection of the truth revealed to us by God in Scripture. Have you prepared your gift for Jesus to cele-brate his birthday? If not, give Him the gift of reading one of the four Gospels, such as Matthew or Luke. And remember, Jesus is the Reason for the Season.

My Dearly Beloved in Christ, With deep joy and gratitude, I extend to you my prayerful best wishes for a holy and blessed Christmas. During this Advent Season, it has been my prayer that each of you would find opportunities to reflect on your own faith and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and His Church. Whatever it is that our hearts and souls desire, whether we realize it or not, our ultimate desire is Jesus Himself, for this reason, we are filled with joy and consolation at Christmas to know that all that we hoped for has been fulfilled in the person of the Christ Child. Christmas has a way of bringing to Church individu-als and families who, for various reasons, have not been to Mass or the Sacraments for months or years. What a wonderful and grace-filled opportunity to put aside past differences and old habits and begin anew that prayerful relationship with the Lord and His Church community. SAN ESTEBAN (Siglo I) -26 de diciembre El libro de los Hechos de los Apóstoles describe a Esteban, uno de los primeros siete diáconos de la Igle-sia naciente, como un hombre “lleno de fe y del Espíritu Santo”. Como diácono, según lo pedido por la comuni-dad, se dedicó al cuidado de los huérfanos y de las viu-das. Además de eso, se dedicó a predicar la salvación por medio de Jesucristo. Su predicación incomodó a algunos líderes religiosos quienes sobornaron a otras personas para que declararan que Esteban había blasfe-mado contra Moisés, pero no fue así. Sin embargo, Esteban les recordó que Dios no sólo estaba en el Tem-plo de Jerusalén y además les reprochó su incum-plimiento de la ley y el rechazo al mensaje de Jesús. Esto les molestó mucho y “Esteban les dijo que veía los cielos abiertos y al Hijo del hombre de pie a la derecha de Dios”. Llenos de rabia se lanzaron contra él, lo saca-ron de la ciudad y lo apedrearon hasta matarlo. Mien-tras agonizaba, oraba así: “Señor Jesús, recibe mi espíritu”. CONFIANZA EN DIOS En este último domingo de Adviento las lecturas se enfocan en el nacimiento histórico de Jesús: el hijo de David e Hijo de Dios, niño y rey, Jesús y Em-manuel. El profeta Isaías le suplica a Ajaz que pida una señal, para permitir a Dios que le asegure la sobrevivencia de la dinastía de David. El rey hipócrita rehúsa “tentar al SEÑOR” de esa manera (Isaías 7:12), pero el profeta predice el nacimiento de un hijo, un he-redero al trono, quien probará la duradera protec-ción divina del linaje elegido del trono de David. El niño será llamado Emmanuel. Mateo se refiere a esta historia en su descripción de los puntos principales del nacimiento de Jesús que contrasta a Ajaz quien rehúsa confiar por falta de fe, y la completa confianza en Dios que María y José demostraron al cooperar con el nacimiento de Je-sucristo.
